This document describes a method for identifying and classifying basmati rice grains using image analysis and a neural network classifier. Basmati rice grain images are acquired, preprocessed by warping, enhancing and segmenting the images. Color, morphological and texture features are then extracted from the images. These features are used to train a neural network classifier to identify unknown basmati rice varieties. The method is also used to determine the percentage purity of basmati rice samples by identifying and removing broken grains from the images.
