Welcome everyone, we are here today to learn how to care for our families health in a more holistic natural way . This presentation will provide information to help you determine if using essential oils is a viable alternative is for you and your families health care.
The question is what is an essential oil?Essential Oils are NOT a new thing. They have been around for thousands of years. Essential oils were even found in the Egyptian tombs, buried w/ royalty b/c they were thought to be so precious. Before we had what is now called “Western Medicine” doctors used natural sources from plants to help w/ maladies.
Essential oils enter the body in three ways. They can be applied to the skin, inhaled and ingested. When essential oil remedies are applied externally, the molecules are absorbed through the skin via small blood vessels. Carried first to muscle tissue and joints through the blood stream, the molecules also travel on to deep tissues and organs throughout the body. All essential oil remedies are volatile, meaning they generate vapors that float through the air. When you inhale those vapors, their molecules enter your lungs and, from there, travel into your bloodstream. The molecules also strike olfactory nerve receptors located just beneath your brain. They pick up the fragrant molecules of aromatherapy essential oils and send their message directly to your limbic system - where you process feelings, learning, memory and physical urges.Because our oils are CPTG, they are safe for internal consumption. Other brands will say you should not ingest them, but because ours are pure, you can. You can put them into a little gelatin or vegetable capsule, like ones used for vitamins and swallow them.
The FDA requires that in order for a company to legally claim that their essential oils are 100% pure, the oils have to be subjected to a test called a Gas Chromatograph. Each essential oil has several constituents that are necessary for it to work the way research has shown it will work for medicinal purposes. A Gas Chromatograph checks to make sure that each of the constituents that should be in the oils, are in fact, in the oil. Once the oils pass the Gas Chromatograph test, they can be called ’100% Pure’. There are a couple of problems with this test, one of which is that it doesn’t check to see if there is anything in the oil that should NOT be there – for example, pesticides, synthetics, or weeds that may have been accidentally harvested w/ the plants. The doTERRA founders felt that this standard was not high enough. They wanted to make sure the oils were truly pure, so they have created a new standard of essential oils called CPTG. CPTG stands for Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. It’s a little bit like what has happened with organic foods. When organic first came out, it meant that the food was absolutely natural. There had been no pesticides or chemicals used to help the plant grow, or keep the bugs from eating the plants, or even to help harvest or preserve it. But over the years things changed. New levels of ‘organic’ started to appear until it got to a point that just because it said organic on a label, that didn’t necessarily mean it was truly organically pure. It wasn’t long before a new standard had to be created called “certified organic”. Now Certified Organic means that it is truly 100% Organic. The same thing has happened in the field of essential oils. It used to be that Therapeutic Grade meant that it was 1005 pure, but now Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade means that it is truly 100% pure. Mass Spectrometry – It checks all of the constituents in the oil to ensure that there are the right amounts of each of thos constituents. It also checks to ensure that there is nothing in the oil that should NOT be there, like synthetics, pesticides and weeds. It is an expensive test, which is why other companies don’t use it. Even though we have this added expense the founders of doTERRA are taking a little less profit so our prices can be equivalent to those of other high quality oils. Only after an essential oil passes both of these tests can it be called Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. I love knowing that they are and that I can expect safety and consistency when I treat my children using our oils.
Almost every single essential oil has the medicinal properties of being anti viral and anti bacterial. Some are stronger than others in different areas. Some are anti inflammatory or anti parasitic. Some are proven to kill mold spores or fungus. Diffusing essential oils in the air is a great way to combat whatever problem you may be having. If you have someone in your home who is sick, you can diffuse the oils that have been proven to kill viruses and bacteria and to keep the illness from being passed around the family. If you have a flood in your basement or have mold problems, you can diffuse the oils proven to kill molds and fungus. It also destroys the toxins in the air from all different kinds of pollution. * Share MRSA study. One thing that is important to note is that essential oils are lipophylic, which means they are fat soluble. Because of this, essential oils can penetrate the cell wall. Bacteria grow on the outside of our cells, but viruses grow on the inside. That is why antibiotics cannot fight viruses – because antibiotics cannot penetrate the cell wall to get in and destroy the virus. Essential oils can penetrate the cell wall, so they get inside the cell and can effectively eliminate viruses. When you take essential oils internally, they start out lipophylic, so they can penetrate the cell wall as we discussed, but once they go through your system and pass through the liver, they then become hydophyllic, which means they are now water soluble so they can no longer penetrate the cell wall. Depending upon the malady you are trying to treat, you would use different modalities for the essential oils. If you are dealing w/ digestive problems, you will get more effect if you use them topically and with a diffuser. If you have strep throat or bronchitis, internal use can be very beneficial.
They are also inexpensive. (Review some of these examples).
As an extra precaution, doTERRA uses independent laboratories. When a batch of oils arrives there, it goes to one independent lab to go through the Gas Chromatograph. If it passes that test, it is then sent on to a separate independent lab to go through the Mass Spectrometry. If it passes the MS, only THEN is it allowed to go to our bottling plant to be prepared to ship out to you. We have received oils from other parts of the world, and had to send them back b/c they were not pure. There is a woman in St. George, UT who has used essential oils for over 10 years. She was using a high quality brand. She loves them and she uses them all the time, but her husband cannot use them because he has reactions to them. His skin breaks out in rashes. When he and his wife heard our claims about the purity of our oils they wanted to test them. He used doTERRA oils and was just fine. He didn’t break out, he didn’t get rashes and it is because our oils really are pure.
So, it is time we reinvented healthcare. Centuries ago they used natural medicine. Had you told someone back then to take a blue pill and it would make them better, they would have thought you were crazy, because what they were using for healthcare was natural remedies. Today it’s exactly opposite. If you suggest someone take a natural form of medicine, they think it’s strange. In reality, many prescription drugs use synthetic versions of the same compounds found in plants.
