An application software, or app, allows users to perform specific tasks. There are different types of apps: desktop apps for computers, web apps accessed online, and mobile apps for smartphones and tablets. It is important to identify an app's platform, category, and purpose before installing to ensure compatibility. Common methods for preparing apps for installation include downloading from the web, using USB storage, installation discs, or over a local network.
This document discusses computer applications and their importance. It defines an application as a set of instructions and programs that improve a computer's functionality. The document outlines different types of applications including desktop applications like word processors and web browsers, as well as mobile apps. It explains that applications allow computers to perform specific tasks and that without applications, computers would not be functional.
Computer software controls everything a computer does and comes in two categories: system software and application software. System software includes operating systems, program translators, and utility programs. Application software allows users to perform specific tasks like word processing, accounting, and games. When selecting application software, organizations should evaluate requirements, identify vendors, evaluate alternatives, purchase licenses, install packages, and customize if needed.

Software vendors often bundle multiple applications together at a lower combined price for compatibility and usability. Applications are designed to run on specific operating systems and may not be compatible across platforms. The operating system manages interactions with the computer hardware and must run for any programs to function, while applications are optional programs for specific tasks.
This document provides an overview of Windows app development. It defines what a Windows app and Windows Runtime are, and describes the three types of Windows apps: Windows Store apps, Windows Phone Store apps, and Universal Windows apps. It discusses the Metro UI, supported programming languages, monetization options, and how to set up the development environment. Advanced topics covered include side loading, MVVM/Prism frameworks, SQLite databases, data binding, creating custom controls, and using Expression Blend. The document aims to educate developers on building apps for Windows platforms.
Types of Software Development
Front-End Development
The portion of software development that the user may access the most is front-end development. That is to say, because it includes the graphical components of any system, application, or website, this kind of software development is instantly apparent to consumers.
Custom software development company oman use different tasks related to Front End Development include creating user interfaces (UIs) and controlling client-side behaviour. User interfaces (UIs) play a critical role in attracting end users to software.
Back-End Development
Development that takes place behind the scenes is referred to as back-end development. Alternatively put, you are unable to notice it.
This is due to the fact that back-end development includes server-side behaviour, which is related to the internal structures of the software application itself, such as servers, databases, and application programming interfaces (APIs).
Full Stack Development
Ultimately, the user interacting with the front-end decides how good the software product is. However, the back end ensures that nothing malfunctions during the procedure.
In essence, front-end and back-end developers collaborate to provide the best of both worlds.
Thus, the combination of client-side and server-side programming is defined as full stack development.
Application Development
Another broad category of software development is application development. You'll quickly learn that application development is the core of every software project, in addition to front-end, back-end, and full stack development.
Application development is, at its core, the process of developing a computer programmer, or programmer, to accomplish tasks in support of corporate goals.
The document discusses gadgets and apps in computing. It defines gadgets as small machines or devices that perform useful tasks. Computer gadgets add functionality and include items like headsets, webcams, and USB splitters. Common laptop gadgets are wireless mice and keyboards, security cables, and laptop stands. The document also defines apps as software programs installed on devices. Apps can be web-based, requiring internet, native to a specific platform, or hybrid combining both. Popular apps mentioned include Microsoft Word, Facebook Pages Manager, and jobs involve using, developing, or teaching apps.
The document discusses different types of mobile application testing including functional testing, memory leakage testing, update testing, interrupt testing, power consumption testing, and security testing. It provides examples of each type of testing and explains their importance in thoroughly validating mobile app functionality and performance.
Desktop applications include word processors, web browsers, graphic design software, real-time communication tools, and multimedia/music streaming software. Mobile apps are categorized as gaming apps, productivity apps, and lifestyle/entertainment apps. A computer driver is software that allows the operating system to communicate with hardware like a graphics card. Drivers can cause crashes if they have bugs, are installed incorrectly, are outdated, or conflict with other drivers or hardware.
The document provides an introduction to software engineering concepts including definitions of software, differences between software and other systems, types of software, and top software companies. It defines software engineering as the application of a systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approach to software development, operation, and maintenance. Software engineering encompasses processes, techniques, tools, programming languages, design methods, testing, maintenance, and development used in software production. The document lists the top 10 software companies as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, SAP, Symantec, Adobe, Ericsson, Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, and Salesforce.com.
Software refers to programs or coded instructions that are not the physical computer itself. Software is stored as binary data that is copied onto a computer's hard drive during installation and does not take up physical space. Different types of software are suited for various tasks like word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, internet browsing, email, and graphics. Application software helps users perform specific tasks and includes programs for business, personal productivity, and media. Application software contrasts with system software, which manages computer capabilities but does not directly perform tasks for the user. Examples of application software include operating systems like Windows and iOS as well as free apps that can be downloaded.
This document discusses various topics related to computer networks including network software, system software, hardware, software, firmware, apps, and IP addresses. It provides definitions and examples of these terms. It explains the differences between system software and application software, and between hardware, software, and firmware. It also discusses software-defined networking frameworks and the layers within it. IP addresses are defined and the differences between IPv4 and IPv6 are outlined.
Application development refers to the process of creating software applications that can be used on various platforms, such as desktop computers, mobile devices, and web browsers. Application development involves a wide range of activities, including designing the user interface, writing and testing code, integrating with other systems and platforms, and deploying and maintaining the application over time.
for more information you can visit https://www.sthlmtechpartner.com/
The document discusses mobile application testing, including the types of mobile applications like web, native, and hybrid applications; different mobile platforms like Android and iOS; how to test aspects like installation, features, and network connectivity; challenges in mobile application testing like lack of devices; and how to overcome challenges using emulators and automation tools.
The document discusses useful applications for actuaries, focusing on social networking and apps. It provides an overview of how actuaries can use social networking platforms like LinkedIn. Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.

INFORMATION SHEET 1.2-4
Application Software
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Different types of application software
2. Prepare apps for installation
INTRODUCTION
You may have heard people talking about using an application or an app. But
what exactly does that mean? An application (or app) is a type of software that
allows you to perform specific tasks. Applications for desktop or laptop
computers are sometimes called desktop applications, and those for mobile
devices are called mobile apps. When you open an application, it runs inside the
operating system until you close it. Much of the time, you will have more than
one application open at the same time, and this is known as multitasking.

APPLICATION SOFTWARE
App is a very common term for an application, especially for simple applications
that can be downloaded cheaply or even for free. Many apps are also available for
mobile devices and even some TVs.
Three types of Application software
A. Desktop App is applications that run in a personal computer and laptops.
Types of Desktop Applications
There are countless desktop applications out there, and they fall into many
different categories. Some are more full-featured (like Microsoft Word), while
others may only do one or two things (like gadgets). Below are just a few types of
applications that you might use:
• Word Processors: A word processor allows you to write a letter, design a
flyer, and create many other kinds of documents. The most well-known
word processor is Microsoft Word.
• Personal Finance: Personal finance software, such as Quicken, allows
you to keep track of your income and expenses, create a budget, and more.
Most personal finance programs can automatically download information

from your bank, so you don't have to manually type in all of your
transactions.
• Web Browsers: A web browser is the tool that you use to access the World
Wide Web. Most computers come with a web browser pre-installed, but
you can also download a different one if you prefer. Examples of browsers
include Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.
• Games: There are many different games that you can play on your
computer. They range from card games such as Solitaire, to action games
like PlayerUnkown’s Battleground (PUBG). Many action games require a
lot of computing power, so they may not work unless you have a newer
computer.

• Online Email Services: Services like Gmail and Yahoo! Mail run within
your browser and can do many of the same things that email programs
like Microsoft Outlook can do. After you sign up for an online email service,
you can begin using it immediately - no installation is required. Instead of
being stored on your computer, your emails are stored in the cloud.
• Google Docs: Google Docs is an office suite that runs within your browser.
Much like Microsoft Office, you can use it to create documents,
spreadsheets, presentations, and more. Your documents are stored in the
cloud, which makes it easy to share your documents with other people.
• Facebook: Facebook lets you create an online profile and interact with
your friends. Profiles and conversations are constantly evolving, so
Facebook uses web app technologies throughout the site to keep the

information up-to-date. There are also games and other web apps that you
can add to your Facebook profile.
C. Mobile App is a software application designed to run on smartphones, tablet
computers and other mobile devices.
Desktop and laptop computers aren't the only devices that can run apps. You
can also download apps for mobile devices like smartphones and tablet
computers, which opens up a lot of new possibilities. Here are a few examples of
mobile apps:
Snapchat lets you easily talk with friends,
view Live Stories from around the world,
and explore news in Discover.
Messenger instantly reach the people in
your life—for free. Messenger is just like
texting, but you don't have to pay for every
message (it works with your data plan).
Not just for Facebook friends: Message
people in your phone book and just enter
a phone number to add a new contact.
Instagram is a simple way to capture and
share the world’s moments. Follow your
friends and family to see what they’re up
to, and discover accounts from all over the
world that are sharing things you love.

PREPARING INSTALLER APPS
Before doing installation, there are some essential factors that we should always
know.
4.1 Platform Environment
We don’t just install application without knowing its environment. Identifying the
platform is very essential. We must to know its OS, chipsets and other hardware
component.
Example
You are about to install an office 2019 app with x64 architecture in a computer
running with x86 processor. Technically it is incompatible due to dissimilar
architecture of your device and application.
4.2 Categories of Installer Apps
a) Open Source/Freeware are applications that can be use by the end
users for free. These applications don’t have equivalent price.
b) Closed Source/Paid Apps /Proprietary software
is computer software licensed under exclusive legal right of the
copyright holder with the intent that the licensee is given the right to
use the software only under certain conditions, and restricted from
other uses, such as modification, sharing, studying, redistribution, or
reverse engineering.
Are applications that need to purchase before using it such as, Adobe
Photoshop, Windows 8 and Microsoft Office.
c) Trial ware
It is also a type of proprietary software which is provided to users for a
certain limited trial basis and pursuant to a license which restricts any
commercial benefit, use or exploitation of the software. This application
usually offers 30 days trial or more.
d) Subscription-based application
A subscription-based is an apps that allows a customer or
organization to purchase or subscribe for a specific period of time
for a set price. Subscribers typically commit to the services on a
monthly or annual basis

5. TYPES OF INSTALLER
a. Desktop Apps are application that are installed in a computer
either PC or laptop.
i. Portable Apps are applications that able to use without
installation.
ii. Installed Apps are applications that mandatorily installed in
your computer
b. Web Apps are applications that are accessed over a network such
as the Internet or an intranet.
c. Metro Apps/Windows 8.1 Apps are applications that solely run in
Windows 8 OS or later version, that can be downloaded from
Windows Apps Store
d. Mobile Apps are applications that designed to run in smartphone,
or tablets such as, surface tablet, iPad or galaxy tab.
e. Windows Universal apps are applications that run in different
platforms using Windows 10 operating system
Purpose of Installation
Before the installation we need to identify first the objective its execution.
You need a certain apps for a certain purposes. You must to identify if you
are really need that particular apps or not.
Example:
You are graphics designer for a clothing product, and you installed Adobe
Illustrator because you need to create a vector art of a certain clothing line for your
new project. Creating a vector art is the purpose why you installed Adobe
Illustrator.
Different Ways of Preparing Installer Apps
There are several ways in preparing installer apps
1. Direct downloading/installation from web
Installation directly from the web is too risky it may contains malware or virus it
may also requires ample time in installation mainly if you have poor internet
connection.
2. via USB storage devices(e.g., flash disks, external hdd)

manageable due to portability of its execution.
3. via installation disc
It is the traditional way of installation of application, it requires ODD in every
installation. Software are burned in an optical disc.
4. via intranet or LAN network
This method requires LAN connection in conducting installation. Via intranet
installation make faster and more efficient. It enables you to deploy multiple
