Teaching Children to Self Evaluate
Individually and Cooperatively
Homework
Your child will need to read nightly for 15-20 minutes and
practice math addition/subtraction facts for 10 minutes. Calling
out basic facts to your child is one way of doing this.
Homemade or store bought flashcards would work well also.
Homework, this year, will be kept to a minimum.
A Reading activity nightly. Math games and a few problems a
week will be sent home for your child to practice and sharpen
skills being learned in the classroom.
Homework is a chance for parents to see what we are doing
and reinforces the skills being learned in class.
Reinforcing these skills at home will give your child the best
opportunity to master the second grade curriculum.
How can you help your child
at home?
•Beginning September 3, 2013 your child will bring
home a nightly reading binder.
Monday: Practice words
Tuesday: Poems
Wednesday: Contractions
Thursday: Phrases
•Please sign agenda that they have read to you.
•Let your child see you reading, writing, and using
math throughout the day. Help them make
those connections.

Your child may choose to read books of
his or her choice on their just right level.
If your child reads 100 books they will get
their picture taken and will make the
wall of fame!
This is not required but strongly
