Dr. Jane Knight was giving a speech at an international conference in Alexandria, Egypt on November 15-16, 2005. Her speech focused on presenting preliminary findings from the 2005 IAU Survey on the status of internationalization in higher education institutions around the world. The survey looked at rationales, benefits, priorities, risks, and challenges identified by participants from 93 countries. It also examined new developments in cross-border education, implications of GATS, quality assurance, and recognition of qualifications. Comparisons were made with IAU's 2003 survey results and differences among regions and developed/developing countries were addressed. Two full reports on the final 2005 IAU Survey results were forthcoming in early 2006.
