Al-Beruni (973-1048 AD) was a renowned Persian scholar and polymath who made significant contributions to mathematics, astronomy, physics, and natural sciences. He wrote extensively on these topics as well as geography, history, chronology, linguistics, customs and creeds of various nations including India. He was given the title of "The Master" for his vast knowledge. Some of his most important works included his treatise on astrology, books on pharmacy, gems, and his encyclopedic work on India called "Indica". Over his lifetime he authored 146 books in various fields of study and was considered one of the most prolific writers of his time.
