The growing necessity for the implementation of new financial schemes within the framework of ESI Funds is becoming more and more evident. At the same time, a more democratic, transparent and efficient allocation of such European resources continues to be a priority for the European Commission, as well as for regional authorities and citizens.
In this perspective, the European Crowdfunding Network would like to highlight some of the potential benefits that civic crowdfunding could provide, if coupled with ESI Funds and other resources. You can find our arguments in the attached white paper “The European Dimension of Civic Crowdfunding. The potential of crowdfunding for boosting economic and social effectiveness of European Structural and Investment Funds”.
The paper will serve as a basis for the creation of a Working Group of interested parties (both from the crowdfunding industry and from regional and local authorities) that will jointly analyse how of Crowdfunding can be integrated into ESI Funds as a match-funding mechanism. We firmly believe that, in order to have a stronger impact on European and national policy-makers, it is of paramount importance to gather a strong network of organisations that agree on the statements that we want to put forward.

The paper starts out by examining the civil society strategy of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs which forms the basis for public NGO financing in Denmark. The assessment of the Danish policy environment includes extensive reference to a paper on the role of civil society in pro-poor growth initiatives prepared by CISU, an umbrella and fund for smaller Danish NGOs. Secondly, a couple of studies on the experiences of Danish NGOs working with the private sector are presented. Starting from a short reference to the role of NGOs and private sector in the area of microfinance, the paper then presents the role of the NGO in the development of pro-poor value chains including the planning and analysis process. Interventions are further specified in terms of a number of areas in which NGOs can support lead firms and small producers followed by a presentation of a number of ways that NGOs can ensure that working with the private sector indeed benefits the very poor. (Taken from the paper)

CLES presentation on Civil Economy from VSNW 2013 Conference. The presentation includes case-studies from around the world showing how the local social sector has played a part in creating "good growth".
The Rockefeller Foundation has long recognized the importance of meaningful engagement of the private sector in addressing many of the world’s most complex problems. While many social sector leaders understand that engaging the private sector matters, far fewer understand how to do so, or the key questions one should consider before starting down this path of cross-sector collaboration. For instance: Why would a network want to include a company? Or conversely, why would a company want to participate in a network focused on social impact? Can social impact efforts deliver business value? What makes network relationships durable? And ultimately, what are the different needs around accountability, leadership, governance and mindset? To answer questions such as these, The Foundation and our partners at Monitor Institute, a part of Deloitte Consulting LLP, have created “PARTICIPATE: The power of involving business in social impact networks”—a handbook for social change leaders aspiring to effectively engage the private sector as authentic participants in the pursuit of social impact.
Module 5 social enterprise - a key integration and progression toolcaniceconsulting
Having come through Modules 1-3, you should be coming to this module enthused and inspired, bursting with ideas of how you can improve your Interface Community. In this module we will look at social entrepreneurship in more detail as a key integration and progression tool.
Studies of Danish NGOs promoting income generation and pro-poor growth highlight that there is a widespread uncertainty about the role of NGOs in private sector development and to which extent the civil society strategy can allow NGOs to engage with market actors in their efforts to alleviate poverty (CISU 2012; NGO Forum 2012). Also there is a sense that the private sector is the opponent to development rather than a necessary source of income to the poor themselves. This paper seeks to clarify the role of the Danish civil society in the area of income generation and pro-poor growth based on existing policies and studies and particularly on the overall approach of value chain development (VCD) and making Markets work for the Poor (M4P).

The paper also touches a number of ways that NGOs can ensure that working with the private sector indeed benefits the very poor.
Finally, I would like to stress that this short paper is only a presentation of relevant policies and practices in the area of value chain development as seen from the perspective of the civil society in Denmark. It hopes to provide an overview but is not an analysis or a review as such.

2. Sharing Economy is. not a a solution to the crisis.
Rather, i t is a comprehensive world view based on
exchange and sharing.
It is founded on cooperation, taking advantage of
the potential of networks in order to propose new
models of social organization and consumption.
The motto sharing is caring, suggests that
on innovation and collective responsability.
our final target is building a new system, based
3. The scenario
The current economic crisis mainly reflects a
general crisis of values. The collapse of the tradi-tional
logic of profits urges each of us to look a
new, sustainable models.
No more bending over backwards, trying to cope
with the uncertainty of casual work, rather a new
kind of community, overcaming individualism in
order to build an articulated economy, based on
interaction and collaboration with others.
Social capitalism is an entrepreneurship made up
of individuals helping each other to improve their
quality of life.
4. A new economy
Many doubt that Sharing Economy can produce
real advantage. Yet some of the most important
websites specifically dedicated to it, thanks to
the collaboration of their users, have achieved
impressive results. The model is widespread,
low cost economy, making it possibile to buy a
service, often offered by other users, in a
sustainable way.
Collaboration is its added value. Saving money
is its strategy. Absence of intermediation is its
competitive advantage.
5. Obstacles
What prevents Italian companies in operating in
the filed of digital service today?
Sharing Economy projects prefer a short opera-tional
chain (peer to peer, without intermedia-ries),
therefore it is evident that there are too
many lobbies and interest groups, excessive
regulations, and heavy bureaucratic system to
deal with.
As a result, the most important Sharing Eco-nomy
platforms are foreign based, while Italy is
still suffering from serious delay.
7. Social innovation
It is evident that the advantages of coopera-tive
behaviour cannot be limited to a mere
economic dimension. Increasingly, Sharing
Economy projects reward social innovation,
expressing, as an added value, a concrete and
positive impact on quantity of life and on
values underlying communities.
Sustainability, innovation, societing,
community-building, requalification, integra-tion.
Social innovation is a product, a pro-cess,
an idea leading to the betterment of
our society.
