Aiden’s trip to Mars
   By Aiden V.C. 5/6FM
        and family
Narrative
• It was a Sunday morning, and I was completely
  bored.
• But then I suddenly remembered! ‘’ O.M.G.! ‘’
  [Whatever that means] ‘’ What can I do for my
  maths project?! ‘’ I would have bumbled along
  like this until the time when Star Wars was
  possible, [completely failing the project in the
  process] but for when a great idea came to my
  mind! ‘’ I shall go t…. ‘’ Oh no! No! No! No! No!
  No! YES! ‘’ I shall go to Mars! Wait! How do I get
  there again? ‘’
• WARNING!
• THE NEXT FEW SLIDES WILL CONTAIN A HECK
             OF A LOT OF MATHS!
          • THANKS TO MY DAD!
            • OH YES! AND ME!
Getting There
When Mars and Earth are at their closest
distance of : 54,500,000 KM, the journey will
take 214 days.
So my average speed will be:
              Speed= distance /time.
       Speed= 54,500,000 KM / 214 Days
    Speed= 54,500,000 KM / [214 X 24] Hours
      Speed= 54,500,000 KM / 5136 Hours
              Speed= 10,611.3 KMPH
                   VERY ZIPPY!
Olympus Mons
• ‘’ I have just landed and I… HOLY CANOLI! ‘’ [And I
  wish I had one now!] ‘’ There is Olympus Mons! This
  is the tallest mountain on Mars!
• How high is it you ask?
   Height of Olympus Mons/Height of Mount Everest
                      = 27 KM/8.3KM
                          =3.068

• THAT’S OVER THREE TIMES THE SIZE OF MT EVEREST!
Aiden’s Field Trip
• ‘’ Okay I’ve landed on Olympus Mons, and I feel like
  going for a good ol’fashioned stroll around Mars! ‘’
• ‘’ WAIT! ‘’
• ‘’ Can I actually go outside without dying a horrible
  death by suffocation, or by Martians? ‘’
• ‘’ I shall have to consult with my Sm-aRt Computer
  Travis! ‘’
• ‘’ And here is what he came up with! ‘’
Gas Comparison
                 Mars                     Earth

                               Carbon
                               Dioxide            Carbon
                                                  Dioxide
                               Nitrogen
                                                  Nitrogen

                               Argon
                                                  Argon

                               Oxygen
                                                  Oxygen

                               Carbon
                               Monoxide

In conclusion, I think I will need my
spacesuit!
Aiden’s Field Trip [Continued]
                While on my stroll around Mars
                [Wearing my spacesuit of course] I
                bumped into the Mars rover Pathfinder.

                So I did what any other sensible person
                would do! Give it some cheese, a good
                scratch behind the ear, and hopped on
                for a trip around Mars!

                How long did it take me?
The Trip

Speed of Pathfinder = 1 CM Per second
                          = 0.00001 KM/0.00027 Hours
                          = 0.0370 KM per hour
So to travel around Mars it would take:
Time = Distance/Speed
      = 21.344 KM/0.0370 KMPH
      = 576.864.8649 Hours!
      = 576.864.8649/24 Hours
      = 24.036 Days
      = 24.036/365
      = 65.8 Years!
Conversations
• ‘’ Smartly I hopped off Pathfinder after I had only gone a couple of
  centimetres over 4 hours. ‘’
• ‘’ So then I quickly trundled back to my tiny base to call my parents on
  my: Super hydromatic space zippy caller fountainised communicater
  turbo charg…. Okay! Fine! My mobile phone! ‘’
• But my phone conversation had actually lasted over 45 minutes!
• Why is this you ask? And NO, I don’t do long phone conversation’s!
• Radio waves travel at the speed of light which is 300.000 KM Per second.
• So the time for my voice to reach Earth from Mars is:
• Time = 54,500,000 KM/300.000 KM Per second
• = 180 seconds
• 180/60 Minutes
• = 3 Minutes! That is a long wait for a person to hear you from Mars!

Mars Facts
• 1. Distance between Earth and Mars:
• Shortest: 54,500,000 KM [34,000,000 Miles]
• Farthest: 76,000,000 Miles
• = 76,000,000 times 1.6 KM= 121,600,000KM
• 2. Temperature:
• Lowest:-123 Degrees Celsius/90 Degrees
  Fahrenheit
• The temperature range is equal to highest-lowest.
• 32 Degrees Celcius to -123 Degrees Celcius
• =155 Degrees Celcius.
• It took Mars’s rover Curiosity approximately
8 months to get to Mars.
• Mars day: 24 hours 39 minutes and 35 seconds!
• A Mars year is almost 2 whole Earth years!
• Distance around Mars: 21, 344 KM
• Thankyou for watching!
