"Stop Hiring Devops Experts (And Start Growing Them)" by Jez Humble, Principal, ThoughtWorks.
Presentation Overview: Everyone is putting "devops" on their LinkedIn profile, and everyone is trying to hire them. In this talk, Jez will argue this is not a recruitment problem but an organizations failure. This talk discusses how to grow great people and great organizations, and how the two problems are connected.
Speaker Bio: Jez Humble is a Principal at ThoughtWorks Studios, and co-author of the Jolt Award winning Continuous Delivery, published in Martin Fowler’s Signature Series (Addison Wesley, 2010). He has worked as a software developer, product manager, consultant and trainer across a wide variety of domains and technologies. His focus is on helping organisations deliver valuable, high-quality software frequently and reliably through implementing effective engineering practices.
Session geared specifically for teachers of math and science. In the ever-changing landscape of student demographics and diversity initiatives, teachers face the challenge of creating a classroom environment that goes beyond celebrations of heroes and holidays. Whether we are educators beginning the journey or far down the path into multiculturalism and inclusivity, there is always room to grow. What are some practical strategies and best practices to become the educator with whom all children thrive?

What The Classroom Doesn't Teach: How To Become A Great EntrepreneurMarcus L. Howard
Are you not quite satisfied with business but can't figure out what's missing? Do you have a ton to do and have no idea where to start? Would you like to know with each step you take you're heading in the right direction? Would you like to narrow your "to do" list down to a few key items and let go of the rest? Would you like to work smarter, not harder?
The framework below will help you do just that. It will help you find your focus so you can do what you want to do and feel great about your life while you're doing it.
FOCUS Framework
Find Your Passion: Uncover the "one" thing that entrepeneurs care about most and the emotional reason you want to succeed as an entrepreneur.
Organize Your Team: An entrepreneur may have a revelation but their team most certainly hasn't. Learn to effectively communicate a new directive to the team and get members to "buy-in".
Commit To A Plan: Generate a plan that you and your team can follow with measurable milestones a complete list of action steps.
Utilize Mentors: Learn who are the five types of people every entrepreneur should keep around them if they sincerely want to succeed in business.
Suspend Your Desbelief: Uncover how to master the internal psychological tactics that are pivotal to pushing past barriers, blocks, and beliefs preventing entrepreneurial greatness.
Tip: only focus on 1 or 2 things at a time. Don't try to do everything at once. That will just lead to overwhelm. Give yourself a chance to worker smarter and you will get more done.
This framework will inspire you to TAKE ACTION. Nothing happens without it. In order to create the life you want you have to give your dreams, heart and spirit a voice and space in your life. However, this alone won't make things happen. You have to channel all these things into a clear course of action.
Instead of jumping into your "to do" list, take some time to reflect upon FOCUS. By doing so you'll put yourself on a life and/or business path that reflects more of what you really want. Determine your FOCUS first and you'll live a fuller, richer life.

How are bullying and bias related? How do young people identify bullies and victims around social factors like race, gender, ethnicity, and class? Use the platform of bullying prevention to teach youth about power, privilege, and allyship. Gain practical tools to educate a new generation of change agents.
This presentation was made during the STEM gender mainstreaming workshop in Uganda. It focused on how a school administrator can become a role model to the students
It starts with the commitment to apply a #onething mindset, but a willingness to question each process and "why" can lead to powerful changes. This presentation addresses staff culture, classroom design, production cycles and media collaboration with a focus on empowering student leaders to think critically, re-evaluate and solve problems on the fly. Collaborative Agility for Students WorkbookJohn Miller
21st Century school environments are powered by collaboration. Collaboration can deepen the learning, enrich relationships, and broaden their future. Yet, when students are placed in teams without the proper readiness, collaboration can turn into disruptive conflict, frustration, and apathy. The Collaborative Agility for Students (CAS) is an in-depth one to two day immersion into the developing social and emotional intelligence. Collaborative Agility is the combination of positive psychology, Nonviolent Communication, facilitation techniques, and Agile approaches to get meaningful learning and work accomplished together. Unlike other student team workshops, CAS is experiential, with each section using a collaborative game or activity that students can directly apply in their classroom, club, program, work, and life.
Reflection is the heart of becoming an empowered and collaborative learner that continuously improves and quickly adapts to a fast changing world.
We have designed 10 reflections for you that are visible, fun, and evokes different perspectives. They can be used for individual, group, or whole school reflection.
In Agile Classrooms, reflection occurs at the end of the Learning Rhythm: Plan, Daily Check-In, Review, and Reflect; repeating every 1-4 weeks. But, you can use these on their own at anytime.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
