The 5 things you need to know to start a software projectJason Straughan
Before you hire developers, before you start your next app project, there are some things you can do to make your project more successful from day one.
What Product Managers Need to Know About Agile Development with ScrumLaura Klemme
Agile development is more talked about than well understood. Product managers are often operating within a system that assumes a traditional waterfall approach to product development where product specifications can be nailed down early on in the product development process. Making agile development work requires educating managers so they will value fast development and the virtues of learning quickly from user interface testing, early test users and initial purchasers. Attracting the best developers requires having development processes that are considered state of the art by the best candidates. Laura will discuss being an employer of choice, using the best in agile and scrum to attract and motivate employees. Transitioning from waterfall to agile is a potentially difficult process and requires planning and knowledge. An often misunderstood aspect of the transition to agile is redefinition of the roles of product owner, product developer, product marketing and scrum master, along with their interactions with the rest of the development team and internal stakeholders. A clear understanding of best practices is likely to increase the probability of product development completion on time and on budget and increase the likelihood that products developed meet key user needs.

Elephants in The Agile Room - by Todd LittleSynerzip
The idiomatic expression also applies to an obvious problem or risk no one wants to discuss. What are some of the Elephants in the Agile Room?
An “Elephant in the room” is an English metaphorical idiom for an obvious truth that is being ignored or goes unaddressed.

Cosa accomuna tutte le metodologie Agile? In questo talk presento il contesto storico in cui è nato il manifesto e, attraverso una attività pratica, vengono discussi i nuovi valori Agile e quelli tradizionali.
Agile is often used for software development. The concepts apply to other areas of business. This presentation is a high-level introduction to Agile, covering some non-software applications, and is developed for a general business audience.
I collated this simply as a conversation starter at the Scottish Public Sector Barcamp on 27-03-09. In the event I didn't get the opportunity and so was able to put the material 'in the bank' for another time. But on reflection it seemed silly not to make it available anyway - you can do your own voice-over!
An overview of the Agile Manifesto and why Agile SDLC is super important to excellent project management practices. Agile Software development is dominating the game these days. Whether you're going responsive, managing ecommerce, magento, or iphone apps Agile practices will help your efforts succeed.

"Sense and Respond: How Successful Organizations Listen to Customers and Create New Products Continuously", written by Jeff Gothelf, Josh Seiden
The End of Assembly Line Management
We’re in the midst of a revolution. Quantum leaps in technology are enabling organizations to observe and measure people’s behavior in real time, communicate internally at extraordinary speed, and innovate continuously. These new, software-driven technologies are transforming the way companies interact with their customers, employees, and other stakeholders.
This is no mere tech issue. The transformation requires a complete rethinking of the way we organize and manage work. And, as software becomes ever more integrated into every product and service, making this big shift is quickly becoming the key operational challenge for businesses of all kinds. We need a management model that doesn’t merely account for, but actually embraces, continuous change. Yet the truth is, most organizations continue to rely on outmoded, industrial-era operational models. They structure their teams, manage their people, and evolve their organizational cultures the way they always have.

Futurespective on software development in 2040 - Aginext - Ben LindersBen Linders
I just came back from 2040 to find out that we are still making software. But it’s not as we know it, Jim! Software development is done completely differently compared to the agile wave that we had at the start of the century. How different? Well, let’s futuresplore it together.
Over years of work I’ve found that often people know a lot of theory and stick to cliché terms, but don’t necessarily know what it actually means in practice. So in this session I will look at practical side of delivery with a grain of humour - Agile theory versus practice, failure versus success, will talk about different things that make teams tick and some, sometimes even small things, that can change the outcome of the project.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2. Background
• In February 2001, 17 software developers met
at the Snowbird, Utah resort, to discuss
lightweight development methods.
3.
4. Background
• They published the Manifesto for Agile
Software Development to define the approach
now known as Agile Software Development.
5. Manifesto for Agile Software Development
We are uncovering better ways of developing
software by doing it and helping others do it.
Through this work we have come to value:
Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan
That is, while there is value in the items on
the right, we value the items on the left more.
