This document discusses Sightsavers' pilot project to disaggregate eye health and neglected tropical disease project data by disability. The objectives are to understand how people with disabilities access services, build an evidence base on collecting disability data, and make projects more inclusive. Two projects in India and Tanzania were selected. The Washington Group short set of disability questions was integrated into routine data collection tools. Preliminary results found the process was transformative by creating more inclusive services and expectations from the community. Comparing disability prevalence rates to other studies showed differences based on the questions used. The commitment is to continue disability data collection and use learnings to advocate for more inclusive eye health and coordination of services.

Learn what you need to consider in your research and design process to create usable products for older users. We will look at some of the cognitive and physical changes associated with aging and consider how these impact on use of products and technologies.
Technology can also be a huge enabler for older users – we will also look at some products in market or development which are helping elders stay independent and healthy for longer.
We’ll demonstrate all this with some real life examples from user research and end on a great video.

Digital exclusion among elderly is a growing problem as the internet and technology become more ingrained in daily life. While some older people choose not to use the internet, many feel excluded due to barriers like cost, lack of access, skills, and health issues. Reasons for disengagement are complex and interrelated. Age UK Sheffield is working to address this issue through initiatives that make internet access possible and provide ongoing support to help older adults overcome motivational barriers and adopt technology.

On the 29th November 2012, ILC-UK held the launch of a new report: ‘Nudge or Compel? Can behavioural economics tackle the digital exclusion of older people?’. This report, kindly supported by Nominet Trust, examines the factors which affect why older people do not get online, concentrating on behavioural choice. The launch was hosted by the Communications Consumer Panel.
Close to eight million adults in the UK have never used the internet, with the vast majority being older people. Over two fifths of those who have never been online are over 75. Previous work from ILC-UK has drawn attention to the nuances in why this digital divide continues; reporting in 2011 that for digital exclusion, factors such as psychological issues ‘appear to be more influential than material factors such as cost or lack of physical infrastructure’.
Within the last decade a strong policy trend has developed with the use of behavioural economics. Explored by Thaler and Sunstein in Nudge, this theory has been used in the development of programmes such as automatic enrolment in occupational pensions.
The introduction of the ‘digital by default’ agenda is likely to eventually result in reducing the alternative options for accessing public services and information. While resources have been funnelled into projects aiming to getting those not online connected, concerns have been raised that people who are disinclined to use the internet will be left without support and excluded from information and services.
During this event we heard from a number of experts in this area and approached the following questions:
-What potential is there for behavioural economics to ‘nudge’ people online?
-Has media literacy failed?
-Should we make more public services available exclusively online?
-How can we ensure that the digital by default agenda supports people to get online?
- How can we use digital technology in imaginative ways to re-think the challenges facing people in later life?
Leveraging Large Data Sets to Make Technology more Accessible for Older People

However, initiatives like Age UK's Down Memory Lane project show that focusing training on interests like reminiscence and using tablets can help older people gain confidence and skills while bringing social benefits. More support is still needed to address cost and resource barriers to digital inclusion as technology continues advancing.
Healthy ageing for eye health
- Visual impairment is a major issue globally, with over 285 million visually impaired and 39 million blind worldwide. The majority of visual impairment is in people over 50 years of age and is largely preventable or treatable.
- The top causes of visual impairment are uncorrected refractive errors, cataracts, and glaucoma. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness, affecting over 39% of blind people globally.
- As populations age rapidly in developing countries like Sri Lanka, the burden of poor vision and associated health issues among older adults will increase dramatically if not addressed. Eye health screening found high rates of cataracts in Sri Lankan elders.

UW Extension Broadband Boot Camp 2016 Breakout: Aging in Place

UW Extension Broadband Boot Camp 2016 Breakout: Aging in Place

Beyond WCAG – accessibility at events
This document discusses making presentations and events accessible beyond just web accessibility guidelines. It provides tips for registration processes, venues, presentations, and delivery. For registration, apply WCAG 2.0 guidelines like providing input assistance. Ask speakers and participants about accessibility needs and provide materials in advance. Make the venue and schedule accessible. Ensure presentation slides have sufficient color contrast, text size, and describe visuals. Speak clearly and remain visible when delivering a presentation. The goal is to accommodate people with different disabilities so they can perceive, operate, and understand events.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex Proofs
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
