5. Benefits to green space
The benefits of green spaces can be
grouped into several categories, the main
ones being; health, environment, and the
economy. These aspects are sometimes
either not understood or can be
underappreciated.

6. Benefits to green space
Green space promotes good health (WHO 2016); the first of
these benefits are improved relaxation and restoration from
having contact with nature and green spaces. A large
number of physical fitness activities in urban areas are also
conducted in green spaces, such as biking, jogging, and
group fitness classes. This in turn also promotes community
engagement and social relationships which is important for
our mental health and wellbeing. As most green spaces
also provide play equipment, this gives our children the
added health benefit of getting outdoors, burning off some
energy socializing with other children, and being part of the
bigger community.

7. Benefits to green space
Health benefits are not only on a personal level but having green
spaces also reduces the urban heat island effect (UHIE). The UHIE
comes from the build-up of heat from the abundance of dark
surfaces, concrete, and asphalt found in urban areas; this creates a
warmer environment and is a factor in the creation of smog. Green
spaces can address this phenomenon through evaporative cooling
(Mcgrath 2008); the air provides the heat that drives evaporation,
causing the air to lose heat and cooling the surrounding area.
It is well known that vegetation creates cleaner air through the
removal of CO2 and pollutants. Thus any vegetation, large or small
will increase the quality of air in the environment. Green spaces, also
through vegetation and unpaved areas provide a greener, cheaper
and more efficient way of stormwater collection.

8. Benefits to green space
Another massive environmental benefit of green areas
being incorporated into the urban design is maintaining
ecosystems by providing natural habitats for our fauna. No
matter how small, each area will be home to an ecosystem
full of life. In a world where development is rapid, it is
required to maintain some native populations. Designing
urban areas with as many green spaces as possible and
spacing them appropriately (although known
fragmentation) can provide a space in which fauna can
move between these areas and not be completely
isolated.

9. Benefits to green space
There are many different economic benefits associated
with urban green spaces. The top value is an increase in
property value, whether it be a privately-owned house or a
place of business. Having a green space nearby as a
business can play a big part in client satisfaction,
employee productivity, and even everyday business costs.
Having a business located near green space can even
reduce air-conditioning costs by reducing the UHIE in the
immediate area.

results from a perceptions survey of people
who use our parks, how they use our parks and
how they value them, as well as our approach
to managing our green spaces. The outcomes
are translated into financial terms which
enables us to demonstrate the benefits our
green spaces have on society and the

19. PAMPANGA
Here in Pampanga, the development of parks and green spaces are not
priorities of LGUs. Probably because we are in the province where there is
still significant amount of trees and agricultural lands. Angeles City has
Bayanihan Park (formerly Astro Park). Mabalacat City has none but there
are several parks inside Clark which are within its territorial jurisdiction
like the Parade Ground, Picnic Ground and Aircraft Park. Though small
compared to other nature parks, they are still a welcome relief from the
hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle.

24. CDC Parade Grounds
Located at Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, the
historical Clark Parade Grounds is an expansive 23-
hectare sports field once used by the United States
Cavalry as training grounds. Today, Clark Parade
Grounds is a world-class multi-sports open area and
one of the most frequented places in Clark.
Clark Parade Grounds is a 1.4 mile (3,500-step) route
located near Mabalacat, Pampanga, Philippines. This route
has an elevation gain of about 59 ft and is rated as easy.
The path is fairly even, throughout the loop, it is rubberized,
though some areas have cracks and are chipped off. You
will be passed by a lot of health-conscious individuals
both young and old and from all walks of life .

A famous landmark in the city that has been known ever since Angeles was
established. It was formerly called the town’s very own “salakot” (native hat)
and through the years it has been an iconic symbol of the city. People
usually go here to have fun and enjoy their leisure time and it is all because
of the beautiful scenery that you can see around the park. It is like the
country’s own version of Central Park since this place is located at the heart
of the city. During its former years, it was formerly claimed as the Astro Park,
and even before the emergence of Angeles City people do come here to
relax and pamper themselves with the green pastures of the area. At that
time, the “salakot” was still outside the park and it was found along the road
that leads to Clark Air Base which is now known as Clark Freeport Zone.
Bayanihan Park (Astro Park)
Once you see this sign you will surely be reminded that you are about to
enter the Clark territory which was owned by the American Soldiers in the
past. As of today, Bayanihan Park is just one of the free recreational places in
the busy streets of Angeles, and during the past years, the whole park was
renovated and changed. Now, it is one of the favorite venues of different
groups for it is where they hold their social and religious events. This time, the
“salakot” is now transferred inside the area and here you can see a wide
stage underneath the popular landmark. Free concerts, dog shows, prayer
areas, public campaigns, and other gatherings are mostly the events that
are held in this special place. Bayanihan Park is open to the public and it is
continuously maintained since it is part of the historical places in Angeles
City.
27. The original provincial Capitol grounds of Pampanga
in San Fernando covered an area of about 12
hectares. The Capitol was erected in 1907–1908,
during the administration of Governor Macario
Arnedo and no expenses were spared from making
the seat of the local government, truly an attractive
tourist attraction in itself.
The expansive grounds are lush with landscaping,
planted with mango and acacia trees, shrubs, and
flowering plants. The wooded area was named Silva
Park, after the late provincial treasurer of Pampanga,
Isabelo de Silva, who led in the drive to beautify the
Capitol surroundings.

29. Laus Complex
Laus Complex is a commercial destination for those who
love to unwind and de-stress, especially at night.
Although it is not a total Green Open Space, the complex is
evidence that most people are prepared to sit and relax in
outdoor furniture considering the current Pandemic
situation. Roads and Parking spaces are transformed into
Alfresco dining areas to accommodate more customers.
Some people are also prepared to stay
inside the car or at the back of their
Cars while having coffee and chilling.

33. One of PH's biggest public parks
to rise in New Clark City
“The New Clark City Central Park will be a great example
of how we can use our land and water resources more
sustainably to foster biodiversity, of how we can
allocate green spaces to connect people with the
environment and through that, to promote greater
health and personal well-being,” Pruce said in a
statement.
The construction of the park, to start in 2023 and be completed in
2035, will be divided into four phases.
The vision for NCC Central Park is a space that is one with nature,
complete with a floating lakeside stage, pedestrian bridge, retention
pond, multipurpose lawns, meditation alcoves, calisthenics or outdoor
gym, sunset plaza, and rain gardens.
The park will draw inspiration from diverse international best
practices like London’s Queen Elizabeth Park, but will also maintain its
unique character by reflecting the local culture and heritage to serve
the contemporary needs and future aspirations of Filipinos, the
statement added.

34. CONCLUSION:
The importance of green spaces in urban design and planning is undeniable. It
affects the environment and the economic value and status of a business and home.
Living and working near green spaces are also known to improve mental health and
wellbeing and employee productivity. All these benefits equate to a happier and
healthier lifestyle for everyone.
How important are green spaces? Well, trees provide us with ecological services like
Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide absorption, cooling and shade, the capture of air pollutants,
bird sanctuary, water retention, water filtration, and anti-erosion. They reduce the
"heat island effect" of urban centers. Moreover, recent studies show that green
sceneries have health benefits as well.
