This study analyzed the top 25 European universities' websites to determine if there is a correlation between their accessibility, as measured by compliance with WCAG guidelines, and their performance in web rankings. The researchers found no correlation between the number of accessibility errors and warnings identified on the universities' homepages and their domain authority, visibility, size, or position in rankings. This suggests that web metrics are independent of accessibility issues and determined more by academic and merit-based factors than accessibility. The study concludes accessibility should still be considered in web rankings.
