Design for Everyone: Tips for Successful Accessibility Pix By Nix
What do you do? Are you a designer, communications director, prepress technician, freelance art director, marketing coordinator, or copy editor? No matter your job title, if you work in InDesign—you spend your days thinking about visual communications. But is that enough, what about accessible design?
Accessible UX: Beyond the checklist to great experiencesWhitney Quesenbery
Checklists, standards, and even patterns can only make sure that basic rules are followed. Even products that meet standards can be difficult or even impossible to use.
But the questions we want to focus on are:
- How easy, useful, efficient, and delightful is this?
- Is this something people want to use?
- Is it a great experience?

A quantitative analysis of wcag 2.0 compliance for some indian web portalsIJCSEA Journal
Web portals have served as an excellent medium to facilitate user centric services for organizations
irrespective of the type, size, and domain of operation. The objective of these portals has been to deliver a
plethora of services such as information dissemination, transactional services, and customer feedback.
Therefore, the design of a web portal is crucial in order that it is accessible to a wide range of user
community irrespective of age group, physical abilities, and level of literacy. In this paper, we have studied
the compliance of WCAG 2.0 by three different categories of Indian web sites which are most frequently
accessed by a large section of user community. We have provided a quantitative evaluation of different
aspects of accessibility which we believe can pave the way for better design of web sites by taking care of
the deficiencies inherent in the web portals.
Nowadays, computers and internet are playing the major role in the development of business and different aspects of human lives; hence, the quality of user-computer interface became an important issue. User interface (UI) can become an Achilles heel in a well-functioning system; due to the fact that most users judge the quality of a product by its usability. The UI layout design improves the usability of a product and accordingly may determine its success; so, due to this and more, the need of an objective way of evaluation of UI has arisen. This paper discusses various UI usability evaluation techniques and shows the recent developments in this field.
Evaluating websites from a p public value perspective: a review of turkish lo...MdAhasanulAlam
It was our presentation for the 4th year course Human Computer Interaction of Department of CSE, University of Dhaka.
Here, we have presented a paper titled "Evaluating websites from a p public value perspective: a review of turkish local government websites". In this paper they have tried to suggest some new website evaluation matrix to evaluate Public websites. They also showed that a public website may have better performance in normal evaluation but have bad performance if we consider the public value perspective.

Over the last fifteen years, Web applications have evolved from the early simple and hyper-text based ones into the more complex, interactive, usable and adaptive applications of the new generations. New paradigms, architectures, and technologies for developing Web-based systems continuously emerge and transform this specific context. At the same time, new techniques and tools for effectively testing them have been proposed. This paper reports some relevant contributions about the Web application testing topic that appeared in the past editions of the Web Systems Evolution international symposium (WSE) and discusses some future trends for this specific field.

3. Website usability reinforces trust in e-government
e-government are facing issues in usability and
accessibility
This study applies usability heuristics and automated
analyses to assess accessibility and usability
To assess usability, 14-point usability heuristic applied
To assess accessibility, Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C)
HTML validator applied
Mobile support also examined
User Experience and Accessibility:
An Analysis of County Web Portals
Introduction
4. E-government web portal provide single point service
to citizens
Web-based government services open the door for
using a customer-oriented approach to focus on end-
user “concerns and needs” to both engage and
empower citizens
These portals should be accessible and usable by
citizen and support mobile driven readiness

5. Website user experience focuses on site usability and
readiness to embrace and adapt to new
communication technologies such as mobile devices.
Website should provide easiness to user to perform
task

Usability in e-Government
6. Users expect and have a right to accessible content
Accessibility is making information accessible for
users with disabilities
This study uses WAVE, a free automated tool for
evaluating site accessibility that has been used as an
indicator of web page accessibility in a range of
studies.

7. For Positive user experience, provides the way user
prefer to use the website
Separate style sheet should be used to provide portal
accessibility
Lack of mobile access discourages the user
accessibility

8. Portal adoption
Higher numbers of residents might require more coordinated
websites to have a better user experience finding the resources they
need in a complex local government.(Google search for the county name
and Alabama, and examined the first 30 results)
Usability
User should able to locate the information easily (14 usability standards
apply to measure this)
Best coding practices
Accessibility standards, valid HTML, and the use of external style
sheets (WAVE and W3c tool used to measure this)
New communication technologies
The widespread adoption of mobile Internet access by the general
population is still relatively recent (Examined HTML Code)
User Experience and Accessibility:
An Analysis of County Web Portals
Areas
9. List of county web portal is compiled addresses for
the 67 Alabama counties
Identified websites that serve as portals, only 39
Portal Identified, 1 Portal is not working
Conducted a heuristic evaluation of the usability of
each homepage
An automated evaluation of best coding practices is
conducted
code of CSS for mobile devices examined
