Contract Cheating – Exploring The Online Market For Original Student Work - U...Thomas Lancaster
This teaching and learning talk on contract cheating, presented at the University of Wolverhampton, UK, explored the world where students are paying other people to have their work completed for them. The talk considers the methods that students can use to outsource work and employ a ghostwriter. Indicative examples, showing the changing landscape of student cheating, are provided. The talk concludes with recommendations, including the suggestion that students should be encouraged and inspired to engage with producing their own original work.
In the forthcoming Internet of Things everything (smart phones, dishwashers, refrigerators, game machines, TVs, cameras, home security systems, vehicles, lighting systems, traffic control systems, engines, bridges, SCADA systems, blood pressure and heart rate monitors, environment monitors etc.) will carry sensors and/or actuators that will be interconnected via sensor networks and the Internet. The sensors sense the environment, transmit the information to controllers who decide about actions to be taken and send their decisions to the actuators.
As the number and variety of connected devices and transmitted data increase, so the number and variety of potential threats increase. So, new security challenges appear.
This seminar presents an introduction to the Internet of Things, smart applications, and research challenges. It also presents an introduction to wireless sensor networks and their security risks.

How can cloud technologies help us to address the challenges of re-use of research data and software and reproducibility of experiments? My slides from the University of Birmingham BEARcloud launch event, October 2016
The world is currently witnessing the rise of many mission-critical applications such as telesurgery, intelligent transportation, industry automation, virtual reality and augmented reality, vehicular communications, etc. Some of these applications will be enabled by the fifth-generation of cellular networks (5G), which will provide the required ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). However, guaranteeing this stringent reliability and end-to-end latency requirements continues to prove to be quite challenging, due to the significant shift in paradigms required in both theoretical fundamentals of wireless communications as well as design principles [B1]. For instance, the fourth generation of cellular networks (4G) currently provides an unpredictable latency that can range from 50ms to several seconds, with block error rates as high as 10-1. On the other hand, the industry is demanding URLLC provide 1 ms end-to-end latency and overall packet loss probabilities as low as 10^-5 - 10^-7 . Motivated by the above, in this tutorial, we cover the challenges and potential solutions for 5G and beyond 5G to support URLLC, in terms of error control coding improving reliability, channel access protocols for reducing latency, and multi-connectivity for improving network availability.
