Part I
The
Hero’s
Quest
Use this page to
breakdown an
existing film, using
the Hero’s Quest
theory. How does
your chosen film
fit with this?
The Ordinary World
Larry, who is a divorced father (main character) needs to get a
job in an effort to maintain contact with and provide stability for
his son, Nicky. Larry applies to be a night guard at a museum, a
job he believes will be “ordinary”.
The Call to Adventure
His first night at the job he was instructed to read a manual by
the retiring previous night guards but he ignored as he thought
it was just a normal job. He fell asleep and was awoken by the
exhibits that had come to life.
The Refusal
When he called for help from the retired guard and was
instructed again to read the manual he managed to get the
museum under control but he quit the next day and refused to
go back as he doesn’t want a life threatening job.
Mentor Help
When he went into tell his boss that he wouldn’t be returning he
ran into his son and he seemed really excited and proud that his
dad had a job and wouldn’t have to move house again so this
caused him to not quit his job and try again one more time.
Crossing the Threshold
Larry studying the animals to get to know them and knows how
to control the museum and become better and learn everything
he needs to know about the animals.
Test/Allies/Enemies
Allies- Nicky (his son), Theodore Roosevelt, Ahkmenrah,
Rebecca.
Enemies- Cecil, Gus, Reginald.
NIGHT AT THE MUSUEM
Use this page to
breakdown an
existing film, using
the Hero’s Quest
theory. How does
your chosen film
fit with this?
Approach
Larry brought his son to work to show him that the animals
come to life but something strange happened because nothing
was coming to life. They went to go check the tablet- (the thing
that causes the exhibits to come to life)- it was missing and Cecil
and the two other guards was caught stealing it along with other
valuable items. They disabled the tablet to stop the exhibits
interfering, with his fathers encouragement he activates the
tablet and runs away with it.
Ordeal
Cecil escaped with the tablet but his partners Gus and Reginald
got captured. All the animals helped Larry get the tablet back
and Cecil got arrested.
Reward They capture Cecil, Gus and Reginald and return back the tablet.
Road Back
The escape of all the live animals was caught on the news and
Larry's boss seen this and the next day Larry got fired.
Atonement
the girl that Larry worked with Rebecca, firstly didn’t believe him
and thought he was mocking history but she seen all the animals
and knew that she was wrong about Larry.
Return
Larry got his job back because people started to visit the
museum a lot more of this and the next shift Larry was on at
night he threw a celebratory party with all the exhibits when
they came back to life again.
Equilibrium
Larry was doing schemes to make a living but he
didn’t money to keep one house and he had to
move a lot, causing him not to see his son if he
couldn’t provide him stability.
Disruption
He received a job offer at a
museum and just thought it was a
normal job.
Recognition
Larry recognises that the museum is
not normal and the exhibits come to
life.
Attempt to repair the damage
Larry educates himself on the exhibits
in order to gain control over them.
New Equilibrium
He becomes very friendly with the
exhibits and continues to stay at the
job and he remained in contact with
his son.

Initial Ideas
Idea 1
Who Jed is the main character, Macy his friend who tries to encourage him not to go, Helda the alien woman, Scary
monster at the end who he fights.
Extras- Dead People
What Jed is a homeless man who needs money to survive. He recieves a note in his cup asking if he wants to
earn some money. His dog runs off and he finds him at a portal when the dog then runs in. Jed runs in
after his dog as that is the only thing he cares about in this world. He is teleported to another world
when he is approached by an alien women who tells him what he needs to do. She informs him that
one of her people was the ones to leave the note and that he is in the right place. She explains how he
gets his money, and he sets off on his journey.
Why • Jed accepts this offer because he has no money
• The note led him to believe he can have a better life.
• He went into the portal to follow his dog.
When Jed lives in the year 2020, until the time changes when he enters the new world and finds himself
years in the future.
Where Jed lived in New York all his life but when he entered the portal, he found himself in Planet Zap.
How He had to earn this money by completing different missions for every part of the world. Some of these
missions would include going down a dangerous hole on a piece of rope and the further he goes down
Idea 2
Who Erin the older sister, Archie and Ameila the two younger siblings, Lenny the gremlin, The Hunter, Lennys friend, The kids
mum and dad.
What It was summer and a family went abroad to their family home. The eldest girl snuck out to a party without her parent's permission, and she
saw something strange, but she just thought it was the drugs until she saw it again and so did her little brother and sister. They was on the
beach when the gremlin appears out of nowhere in front of Erin the older sister. The gremlin explained that he wasn’t going to hurt them as
they was very startled by his approach, and he just needs their help. The two younger siblings was keen to help him, but Erin wasn’t, until
she was convinced by her younger brother Archie and sister Ameila. He explains what they need to do.
Why Lenny feels like he has a special bond with Erin because he has special senses, and he can sense a feel of
familiarity and like he knows her from a previous life and that’s why he chose her and her family to help.
When In present time.
Where Originally the family live in California, but their family house abroad is in the North of Scotland near the sea.
How Lenny needs the help of the 3 siblings by making them transform him into a human look alike. They do this
by using a wig and sunglasses and clothing as a disguise so that he can rescue his friend from a gremlin
hunter. They agree to go on the journey with him to get his friend back. They travel over the sea to a
deserted winter island that is covered in snow, but it is somehow still warm. They prepare to travel to the
Idea 3
Who Samuel Wilson, Imogen Harris, Ettio Crews, Bonnie Lewis, Annie Wilson, Mike Wilson, The long-lost daughter.
What Samuel's mother disappeared on the night storm Katrina hit a small village they live in. Police didn’t really investigate so
Samuel and his friends decided to take it upon themselves to discover what really happened to his mother. His dad is not
here to help him because he died a few years back and he doesn’t have any family left so all he has is his close friends
Imogen, Ettio and Bonnie. Samuel started to accept the loss of his mother and clear out all her things from her office
when he came across a folder with many different addresses in them which he thought was suspicious, he then became
curious as to where those addresses were located and searched them up where he noticed a similarity, all the addresses
were adoption centres. He later told his friends and they all agreed that he should ring all the adoption centres up asking
if his mother has stopped by. The adoption centre receptionist informs him that Annie Wilson (his mother) hasn’t visited
but someone by the name Mike Wilson recently contacted all different adoption centres in our region looking for his
daughter. Samuel makes the receptionist aware that Mike Wilson is his father, and he asks for an updated address, but she
refuses as i against the company's policy. Ettio hacks into the data base and easily gathers the new address. Samuel is
convinced that his dad is dead therefore he sees no reason to go to this random address. His friends are suspicious and
travel there the next morning without Samuel. When they arrive at the address, they peer in through a window and spot
Samuel's dad, so they take a picture and quickly leave. The friends head back to show Samuel the picture, he is shocked
that his dad is alive, however he is more fixated on the fact that he has his mums scarf covered in blood. Samuel and his
friends go to confront his dad, but they see him leaving on a boat with a woman with long hair. They all jump on to the
back of the boat and they see Annie tied up. Ettio quickly notices a kid in a locked room tied up with a passcode securing
the door, he tries to hack the system to free the girl. The dad spots them and quickly pushes Annie into the ocean, Bonnie
and Imogen jumps in to save Annie. Mike and Samuel argue, until the dad picks up a metal bar and knocks Samuel
unconscious. Mike spots Ettio trying to free the girl and he is on his way to stop him until Samuel wakes up and pushes
him away, but he hits his head off a metal pole, and he bled to death. When they got back to safety, Annie explains that

The main colours used in this
magazine is blue, yellow and white.
The primary colour blue has been
used a lot as it blends with the sky
and the sea, but it doesn’t wash it
out to the point you can't see it.
The title of the movie is in
bold yellow writing centred
where you can see clearly
what the film is called and
to make it stand out.
This shows you a preview
of the characters that are
in the movie and they
cover the whole screen but
leave enough space to see
the surroundings around
them. The camera shot a
long shot getting
everything in the shot such
as the helicopter and trees.
This is the main image of
the magazine.
Advertising another film,
maybe directed by the
same person as this movie
and to help sell the film.
There is a small paragraph
of writing that is talking
about one of the
characters in the movie.
The lighting is quite dim,
but the effect of the waves
gives a brighter look and
shine to the cover.
The pop of colour attracts
you to the writing and
makes you read that first.
The image to text ratio is good
because there isn't a lot of writing
that would make you lose interest
but there is also enough images to
look at without it looking messy
and overwhelming
Existing Product
This picture covers the
main part of the poster
which gives you the
impression that these
people may have
something to with the
clues or the finding. It is
also them in a magnifying
glass which symbolises
them looking for
something or possibly
someone.
The title of the movie is
very clear for you to
understand what the film
will be about. It is in big,
bold writing so you cant
miss it.
The three main colours
that are used is black,
white and red. The use of
the colour red might
indicate that there is blood
involved as we normally
represent blood with the
colour of red or even
violence. The mood of the
show is quite dark because
of the dark colours used on
the poster.
This line here tells us what
genre the movie is which is
always good to know
before watching so you
won't be confused about
what the movie is when
watching.
This could be the items that have been
used in a murder possibly as they are on
a background of the colour red which
again, we assume something dark could
have happened.
Existing Product
The genre of this movie
is action/adventure. The
adventure is shown by the exotic
plants and trees surrounding the
image and the action is the man
running away from the people with
weapons.
The font is the original font
from the movie, this might
be for the older audiences
watching so they can feel a
sense of familiarity.
The main image is the man
in the middle which gives
us the impression that he is
important and could be the
main character. There is
also another smaller full
body image of the same
man running away from
the people with weapons.
There is also a picture of a
skull right in the centre of
everything which draws
our attention to that.
The other pictures of the
people are characters in
the film, they are
positioned to the side and
smaller indicating they
might not be as important.
The people chasing the
man gives us a slight clue
as to what the movie could
be about.
The main colour used is
gold. This helps paint the
genre of action/adventure.
The borders are black and
a forest green which also
does the same.
Existing Product The masthead is
partly covered up by
the models, but it is
still clear to the
audience what the brand
of the magazine
is using the font. The
colour of the title is also
red to make it stand out.
The cover lines are all
written in the same
font, which is commonly
used by vogue. The only
title that stands out is
“ New Frontiers” which is
making a strong
statement about women
in the fashion industry and
to represent the women on
the cover as
being contributors.
All the models in the image
are females, reflecting who
the magazine is intended
for. The models have a very
natural look
The main large image of
this front cover takes up
almost of the page. The 5
models are all
wearing modern clothes
which are neutral in
colour and embrace
their ethnicities
and identities to
the audience. The backgro
und of this cover is grey to
reflect the social
changes and inclusion of
more people of colour
in the industry.
Research Summary
• What have you learned from your research?
• I have learned that if you use minimalistic colours and the one pop of colour for
the title or something important it will attract your reader. I have also learned
that if you add a lot of writing and pictures it will just confuse the audience and
they may lose interest within your product.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
• I will include big bold writing for my title to catch the attention of the reader
and I will also keep it to a minimum of 3 colours and maybe the title can have
the bright colour to mix it up a bit.
Poster
I created this poster on photoshop. I used a vary of tools including the
magic wand tool for the wolf. I edited the wolfs nose the same colour
as the orange lights to give the effect that it is shining onto him. I
decided to call it ”The Misty Mountain” because it looks like the wolf is
on one and I blurred the background, so it gives the effect of fog. I have
learnt how to get the misty look by watching YouTube videos on this.

Contingency
What can go wrong? What can you do if it does?
My pictures that I take might get deleted by accident
or if I use a camera the SD card might get misplaced
and lost.
Make sure I upload it too somewhere safe or take
multiple pictures, so you won't have to redo
everything again.
Images might be blurry Make sure auto focus is on.
People not turning up Make sure I give them a clear plan.
Outside location and its raining Make sure I have a backup location inside or in a
studio.
Risk Assessment
What could be a risk to you, others or the
equipment?
How can you make sure that doesn’t happen? What
will you do if it does?
If I use a tripod, I will need to make sure the camera is
securely fitted on, so it doesn’t fall off and potentially
hit someone and break.
Double check that everything is tightened or on
properly.
If the studio lights or the lighting wherever I am taking
the pictures is too bright it could cause headaches for
the people involved.
Make sure that everyone who is in the picture is
happy with the lighting and adjust it for their needs.
Electrical equipment shocking you. Don’t touch equipment that appears faulty.
If borrowing equipment, you need to be careful to not
lose it or try prevent it getting stolen.
By not leaving any of it unattended.
reflection
As you can see here, I have
combined 2 different
pictures to give off this
faded effect. The original
colour of the picture was
red, but I adjusted the
contrast options and stuff
like that to get this blue
colour.
The 4 main colours are
blue, red, white and pink. I
decided to use these
colours because I think it
made it look more
futuristic and the plot of
my movie is set in the
future, so I think it links
quite well.
The font of. the title once
again looks quite sci-fi and
something you would see
in a robotic world maybe.
I think to improve
my poster I could have
added a few lines speaking
on the movie or even
added the characters name
or actors.

Jed is a man who lost his job at a marketing firm leading him to have nothing and become homeless with his
dog Boris. He is begging on the streets of New York when he receives a note in his cup that states " ACCEPT IF
YOU WANT A BETTER LIFE, IF SO, LEAVE WHERE FOUND". Jed goes to speak to his friend Macy about the whole
situation and she disagrees and tries to persuade him not to go but he is thinking otherwise. After the discussion Jed
decides not take the advice and accept the offer. Boris runs off so Jed chases after him which then leads him to a
dark alleyway where he can see a light which Boris jumps into; Jed moves closer to find that the light was a portal.
Boris gets distracted by the light and jumps in disregarding Jed's calls, so he chose to follow. He is teleported to a
place to he doesn’t recognise which seems to be out of this world. Jed is greeted by an alien looking woman
who introduced herself as Helda. She explains the rules of the world that they live in and how they play the game,
and the different biomes vary objectives, after speaking with Helda he realises this is where the note will have led
him. For very biome he completes he will receive 1 token which then can be cashed in at the end for a large sum
of money.

of the game wanted to
keep them attracted to the

Style Sheet
Colour scheme:
These are the main colours that
are included in my game. I chose
these colours as my game has a
futuristic theme based in outer
space and I think these colours link
well with that.
Game layouts
• I planned to do a 2d platformer game taking inspiration rom some of
my favourite childhood games such as Mario, however I wanted to
include a futuristic twist by adding it in space, as it fits in with my
poster, as well as means I could make a cool background with planets
and rockets
Game Summary
A quick summary of the game.
My game is going to be about a game jumping onto obstacles
to complete the level. As I have a theme of space, I have
chosen to create the main character to look like an astronaut
and the objects he is jumping on and moving is spaceships. I
also made different type of planets in the background and
rockets getting sucked up into a black hole. Once you have
reached the end of the game, the character gets lifted into a
ufo to go into the next level.

Evaluation
Research
• The strengths of my research was that I was able to create a sci-fi like background that emerges
the player in the game and makes the player enjoy the game more, I also used popular icons from
sci-fi movies and books such as the UFO and rockets. My research helped them be accurate and
look as good and recognisable a possible.
• The weaknesses of my research was that I didn’t find many different variations of UFO so they all
look the same, with more time and research I would change the colour and shape of some of the
UFO to change it up a bit and not be as repetive, and keep the players engaged.
Research
• The strengths of my research was that I was able to look at
many different types of magazines so I could include everything I
need to. I learned that most magazines have more of a simplistic look
with bold, colourful titles to stand out.
• The weaknesses of my research was that I didn’t search
any futuristic magazines however this made me get the chance to use
my imagination and my own ideas for it.
• To improve I could have added more lines on the front cover speaking
on the movie and what it is about then maybe that would draw
people in and want to buy it.
Planning
• The strengths of my planning was that I made the roots of my game long before the deadline, so I
had a lot of time to tweak my idea and make it just the way I would like, this led to a much better
final product in my opinion.
• The weaknesses of my planning was that I did not create a lot of different characters, or any
customisation for my character, this would have made the game more engaging for the player.
• I could have also done different levels and a home screen for the start of my game .
Planning
• The strengths of my planning for my magazine was the colour scheme
as I wanted a futuristic theme it was easy to pick out the colours and
the style of the writing for the title.
• The weaknesses of my planning was figuring out how I wanted to
layout where the pictures would go and where the text would fit in
place. If I researched more layouts of magazines, I think I could have
improved this specific part of my magazine.
Time Management
• I spent too much time producing a solid idea for my game, and was changing it a lot, this led to
me having to rush the actual execution of my game, so for this I believe I dint manage my time
well.
• With more time I would have added layers to my game, with more levels and a home screen, as
well as adding customisation for the characters.
Time Management
• I think I managed my time quite well as I was always on time for each
part of the project and included everything I wanted in my magazine.
If I was given some extra time I would have gone through and added
extra detail and maybe added actual text of the movie or even an
interview with the actor instead of just filling it out with random
words. I also would have added extra photos on the double page
spread instead of cramping it out with a full page of words.
Technical Qualities
My game is like Mario, except mine is in space, we both have enemies you need to avoid in order to make
it to the end of the mission, in Mario there is a range of enemies but in mine there is only one enemy. In
Mario there is moving objects in the background, like mine.
I would have wated to do more animations, to make my work more technically detailed, and added
another level to make it more complicated
I used a moving background with 2 rockets getting sucked into a black hole to add some effects to the
work.
Technical Qualities
• I think my magazine poster has a similar vibe to a movie called Blade
Runner 2049 as they both have neon colours combined.
As you can see both front
covers have a similar font.
From the title of the
professional poster "blade
runner 2049" you might
get the idea that the movie
is based in the future in
2049 so we also could have
that as a similarity.
I think for a front cover of a
film magazine I added
enough detail and didn’t
overcram it. I could have
probably added a few
more characters onto the
cover.
Aesthetic Qualities
in Mario there is a range of enemies but in mine there is only one enemy. Marios background for his early
levels are basic, whereas mine are more detailed with more going on, with a range of planets and moving
spaceships.
My game art is heavily inspired by 8bit retro space arcade games, such as space invaders, and I wanted to
keep it in the same futuristic feel as my magazine
The game keeps this 8 -bit futuristic feel the whole way through.
Aural Qualities
I think my work sounded creative and it fit quite well with
my game. I like how my audio repeats itself after a little
while and how there is a sound like someone banging a
drum as I think it fits my aesthetic of the game. I think it
could be improved if I made it longer and added a few more
high-pitched sounds into it.
Audience Appeal
• My target audience doesn’t have a specific gender audience but if I
had to target one it would probably aim older males or teenage males
that enjoy movies like star wars or the movie blade runner 2049. The
colour scheme of the magazine is quite diverse as it is both blue and
pink. The secondary target audience would be females.
Audience Appeal
My target audience was sci-fi enjoyers, I appealed to them by adding in UFO and spaceships, which are
very recognised in the genre. I also added sci-fi 8bit music to fully emersed them in the story.
As well as this I made the player play as an astronaut, as many people o talked to said they would enjoy
playing as an astronaut.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the
final package.
• My main strength of the final package was my photography as I got
the perfect lighting for the 2 pictures to get combined and make it
look good. I also edited one of the pictures to the colour blue which I
think is one of my strengths as it was originally red, and it looks more
sci-fi with those colours together.
• The main weakness of my final package was probably the double
spread page magazine as I think I could have set it out to look
more aesthetically pleasing and not jumbled altogether.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
• I believe my main strength of the final package is definitely my
artwork and my 8-bit sci-fi style, as I feel it gives the game an
authentic retro style whilst also giving it the effects to feel like its
futuristic. I also think the background Is a big strength as it makes the
game feel more immersive.
• My main weakness is that I could have made more levels to the game
and expanded the lore of the game, this would have drawn out my
project and made it more complete

  • 12. Idea 3 Who Samuel Wilson, Imogen Harris, Ettio Crews, Bonnie Lewis, Annie Wilson, Mike Wilson, The long-lost daughter. What Samuel's mother disappeared on the night storm Katrina hit a small village they live in. Police didn’t really investigate so Samuel and his friends decided to take it upon themselves to discover what really happened to his mother. His dad is not here to help him because he died a few years back and he doesn’t have any family left so all he has is his close friends Imogen, Ettio and Bonnie. Samuel started to accept the loss of his mother and clear out all her things from her office when he came across a folder with many different addresses in them which he thought was suspicious, he then became curious as to where those addresses were located and searched them up where he noticed a similarity, all the addresses were adoption centres. He later told his friends and they all agreed that he should ring all the adoption centres up asking if his mother has stopped by. The adoption centre receptionist informs him that Annie Wilson (his mother) hasn’t visited but someone by the name Mike Wilson recently contacted all different adoption centres in our region looking for his daughter. Samuel makes the receptionist aware that Mike Wilson is his father, and he asks for an updated address, but she refuses as i against the company's policy. Ettio hacks into the data base and easily gathers the new address. Samuel is convinced that his dad is dead therefore he sees no reason to go to this random address. His friends are suspicious and travel there the next morning without Samuel. When they arrive at the address, they peer in through a window and spot Samuel's dad, so they take a picture and quickly leave. The friends head back to show Samuel the picture, he is shocked that his dad is alive, however he is more fixated on the fact that he has his mums scarf covered in blood. Samuel and his friends go to confront his dad, but they see him leaving on a boat with a woman with long hair. They all jump on to the back of the boat and they see Annie tied up. Ettio quickly notices a kid in a locked room tied up with a passcode securing the door, he tries to hack the system to free the girl. The dad spots them and quickly pushes Annie into the ocean, Bonnie and Imogen jumps in to save Annie. Mike and Samuel argue, until the dad picks up a metal bar and knocks Samuel unconscious. Mike spots Ettio trying to free the girl and he is on his way to stop him until Samuel wakes up and pushes him away, but he hits his head off a metal pole, and he bled to death. When they got back to safety, Annie explains that
  • 13. Mood board: IDEA 1 IDEA 2 IDEA 3
  • 15. Existing Product The main colours used in this magazine is blue, yellow and white. The primary colour blue has been used a lot as it blends with the sky and the sea, but it doesn’t wash it out to the point you can't see it. The title of the movie is in bold yellow writing centred where you can see clearly what the film is called and to make it stand out. This shows you a preview of the characters that are in the movie and they cover the whole screen but leave enough space to see the surroundings around them. The camera shot a long shot getting everything in the shot such as the helicopter and trees. This is the main image of the magazine. Advertising another film, maybe directed by the same person as this movie and to help sell the film. There is a small paragraph of writing that is talking about one of the characters in the movie. The lighting is quite dim, but the effect of the waves gives a brighter look and shine to the cover. The pop of colour attracts you to the writing and makes you read that first. The image to text ratio is good because there isn't a lot of writing that would make you lose interest but there is also enough images to look at without it looking messy and overwhelming
  • 16. Existing Product This picture covers the main part of the poster which gives you the impression that these people may have something to with the clues or the finding. It is also them in a magnifying glass which symbolises them looking for something or possibly someone. The title of the movie is very clear for you to understand what the film will be about. It is in big, bold writing so you cant miss it. The three main colours that are used is black, white and red. The use of the colour red might indicate that there is blood involved as we normally represent blood with the colour of red or even violence. The mood of the show is quite dark because of the dark colours used on the poster. This line here tells us what genre the movie is which is always good to know before watching so you won't be confused about what the movie is when watching. This could be the items that have been used in a murder possibly as they are on a background of the colour red which again, we assume something dark could have happened.
  • 17. Existing Product The genre of this movie is action/adventure. The adventure is shown by the exotic plants and trees surrounding the image and the action is the man running away from the people with weapons. The font is the original font from the movie, this might be for the older audiences watching so they can feel a sense of familiarity. The main image is the man in the middle which gives us the impression that he is important and could be the main character. There is also another smaller full body image of the same man running away from the people with weapons. There is also a picture of a skull right in the centre of everything which draws our attention to that. The other pictures of the people are characters in the film, they are positioned to the side and smaller indicating they might not be as important. The people chasing the man gives us a slight clue as to what the movie could be about. The main colour used is gold. This helps paint the genre of action/adventure. The borders are black and a forest green which also does the same.
  • 18. Existing Product The masthead is partly covered up by the models, but it is still clear to the audience what the brand of the magazine is using the font. The colour of the title is also red to make it stand out. The cover lines are all written in the same font, which is commonly used by vogue. The only title that stands out is “ New Frontiers” which is making a strong statement about women in the fashion industry and to represent the women on the cover as being contributors. All the models in the image are females, reflecting who the magazine is intended for. The models have a very natural look The main large image of this front cover takes up almost of the page. The 5 models are all wearing modern clothes which are neutral in colour and embrace their ethnicities and identities to the audience. The backgro und of this cover is grey to reflect the social changes and inclusion of more people of colour in the industry.
  • 19. Research Summary • What have you learned from your research? • I have learned that if you use minimalistic colours and the one pop of colour for the title or something important it will attract your reader. I have also learned that if you add a lot of writing and pictures it will just confuse the audience and they may lose interest within your product. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? • I will include big bold writing for my title to catch the attention of the reader and I will also keep it to a minimum of 3 colours and maybe the title can have the bright colour to mix it up a bit.
  • 20. Poster I created this poster on photoshop. I used a vary of tools including the magic wand tool for the wolf. I edited the wolfs nose the same colour as the orange lights to give the effect that it is shining onto him. I decided to call it ”The Misty Mountain” because it looks like the wolf is on one and I blurred the background, so it gives the effect of fog. I have learnt how to get the misty look by watching YouTube videos on this.
  • 22. Style Sheet Colour scheme Font for film Font for magazine Font for generic text
  • 23. Magazine and advert layouts Main image Advertisement Image TITLE Barcode IMAGE AND TEXT
  • 24. Contingency What can go wrong? What can you do if it does? My pictures that I take might get deleted by accident or if I use a camera the SD card might get misplaced and lost. Make sure I upload it too somewhere safe or take multiple pictures, so you won't have to redo everything again. Images might be blurry Make sure auto focus is on. People not turning up Make sure I give them a clear plan. Outside location and its raining Make sure I have a backup location inside or in a studio.
  • 25. Risk Assessment What could be a risk to you, others or the equipment? How can you make sure that doesn’t happen? What will you do if it does? If I use a tripod, I will need to make sure the camera is securely fitted on, so it doesn’t fall off and potentially hit someone and break. Double check that everything is tightened or on properly. If the studio lights or the lighting wherever I am taking the pictures is too bright it could cause headaches for the people involved. Make sure that everyone who is in the picture is happy with the lighting and adjust it for their needs. Electrical equipment shocking you. Don’t touch equipment that appears faulty. If borrowing equipment, you need to be careful to not lose it or try prevent it getting stolen. By not leaving any of it unattended.
  • 26. reflection As you can see here, I have combined 2 different pictures to give off this faded effect. The original colour of the picture was red, but I adjusted the contrast options and stuff like that to get this blue colour. The 4 main colours are blue, red, white and pink. I decided to use these colours because I think it made it look more futuristic and the plot of my movie is set in the future, so I think it links quite well. The font of. the title once again looks quite sci-fi and something you would see in a robotic world maybe. I think to improve my poster I could have added a few lines speaking on the movie or even added the characters name or actors.

  • 31. Synopsis Use this space for your synopsis. If you have produced different drafts or alternative ideas, then include those here too. The more work the better. Show your working. Jed is a man who lost his job at a marketing firm leading him to have nothing and become homeless with his dog Boris. He is begging on the streets of New York when he receives a note in his cup that states " ACCEPT IF YOU WANT A BETTER LIFE, IF SO, LEAVE WHERE FOUND". Jed goes to speak to his friend Macy about the whole situation and she disagrees and tries to persuade him not to go but he is thinking otherwise. After the discussion Jed decides not take the advice and accept the offer. Boris runs off so Jed chases after him which then leads him to a dark alleyway where he can see a light which Boris jumps into; Jed moves closer to find that the light was a portal. Boris gets distracted by the light and jumps in disregarding Jed's calls, so he chose to follow. He is teleported to a place to he doesn’t recognise which seems to be out of this world. Jed is greeted by an alien looking woman who introduced herself as Helda. She explains the rules of the world that they live in and how they play the game, and the different biomes vary objectives, after speaking with Helda he realises this is where the note will have led him. • 36. Existing Video Game This screen shows the majority of the games core content: the ubiquitous goomba, floating bricks, question-mark blocks, coins, a hidden mushroom, and pipes. The main target audience for this game is younger children which the creator of the game wanted to keep them attracted to the game with the choice of colours which is all bright colourful ones such as blue and green. Super Mario has a story and the further that you get into the game it changes scenery and gets darker and has more evil connotations as you get closer to defeating to who you need to defeat to complete the game. It keeps people interested because when u progress and do well in the level you can see that you are getting closer to the end goal so it will keep people wanting to play it more and eager to complete and the incentive of finishing the game .
  • 37. Style Sheet Colour scheme: These are the main colours that are included in my game. I chose these colours as my game has a futuristic theme based in outer space and I think these colours link well with that.
  • 38. Game layouts • I planned to do a 2d platformer game taking inspiration rom some of my favourite childhood games such as Mario, however I wanted to include a futuristic twist by adding it in space, as it fits in with my poster, as well as means I could make a cool background with planets and rockets
  • 39. Game Summary A quick summary of the game. My game is going to be about a game jumping onto obstacles to complete the level. As I have a theme of space, I have chosen to create the main character to look like an astronaut and the objects he is jumping on and moving is spaceships. I also made different type of planets in the background and rockets getting sucked up into a black hole. Once you have reached the end of the game, the character gets lifted into a ufo to go into the next level.

  • 45. Research • The strengths of my research was that I was able to create a sci-fi like background that emerges the player in the game and makes the player enjoy the game more, I also used popular icons from sci-fi movies and books such as the UFO and rockets. My research helped them be accurate and look as good and recognisable a possible. • The weaknesses of my research was that I didn’t find many different variations of UFO so they all look the same, with more time and research I would change the colour and shape of some of the UFO to change it up a bit and not be as repetive, and keep the players engaged.
  • 46. Research • The strengths of my research was that I was able to look at many different types of magazines so I could include everything I need to. I learned that most magazines have more of a simplistic look with bold, colourful titles to stand out. • The weaknesses of my research was that I didn’t search any futuristic magazines however this made me get the chance to use my imagination and my own ideas for it. • To improve I could have added more lines on the front cover speaking on the movie and what it is about then maybe that would draw people in and want to buy it.
  • 47. Planning • The strengths of my planning was that I made the roots of my game long before the deadline, so I had a lot of time to tweak my idea and make it just the way I would like, this led to a much better final product in my opinion. • The weaknesses of my planning was that I did not create a lot of different characters, or any customisation for my character, this would have made the game more engaging for the player. • I could have also done different levels and a home screen for the start of my game .
  • 48. Planning • The strengths of my planning for my magazine was the colour scheme as I wanted a futuristic theme it was easy to pick out the colours and the style of the writing for the title. • The weaknesses of my planning was figuring out how I wanted to layout where the pictures would go and where the text would fit in place. If I researched more layouts of magazines, I think I could have improved this specific part of my magazine.
  • 49. Time Management • I spent too much time producing a solid idea for my game, and was changing it a lot, this led to me having to rush the actual execution of my game, so for this I believe I dint manage my time well. • With more time I would have added layers to my game, with more levels and a home screen, as well as adding customisation for the characters.
  • 50. Time Management • I think I managed my time quite well as I was always on time for each part of the project and included everything I wanted in my magazine. If I was given some extra time I would have gone through and added extra detail and maybe added actual text of the movie or even an interview with the actor instead of just filling it out with random words. I also would have added extra photos on the double page spread instead of cramping it out with a full page of words.
  • 51. Technical Qualities My game is like Mario, except mine is in space, we both have enemies you need to avoid in order to make it to the end of the mission, in Mario there is a range of enemies but in mine there is only one enemy. In Mario there is moving objects in the background, like mine. I would have wated to do more animations, to make my work more technically detailed, and added another level to make it more complicated I used a moving background with 2 rockets getting sucked into a black hole to add some effects to the work.
  • 52. Technical Qualities • I think my magazine poster has a similar vibe to a movie called Blade Runner 2049 as they both have neon colours combined. As you can see both front covers have a similar font. From the title of the professional poster "blade runner 2049" you might get the idea that the movie is based in the future in 2049 so we also could have that as a similarity. I think for a front cover of a film magazine I added enough detail and didn’t overcram it. I could have probably added a few more characters onto the cover.
  • 53. Aesthetic Qualities in Mario there is a range of enemies but in mine there is only one enemy. Marios background for his early levels are basic, whereas mine are more detailed with more going on, with a range of planets and moving spaceships. My game art is heavily inspired by 8bit retro space arcade games, such as space invaders, and I wanted to keep it in the same futuristic feel as my magazine The game keeps this 8 -bit futuristic feel the whole way through.
  • 54. Aural Qualities I think my work sounded creative and it fit quite well with my game. I like how my audio repeats itself after a little while and how there is a sound like someone banging a drum as I think it fits my aesthetic of the game. I think it could be improved if I made it longer and added a few more high-pitched sounds into it.
  • 55. Audience Appeal • My target audience doesn’t have a specific gender audience but if I had to target one it would probably aim older males or teenage males that enjoy movies like star wars or the movie blade runner 2049. The colour scheme of the magazine is quite diverse as it is both blue and pink. The secondary target audience would be females.
  • 56. Audience Appeal My target audience was sci-fi enjoyers, I appealed to them by adding in UFO and spaceships, which are very recognised in the genre. I also added sci-fi 8bit music to fully emersed them in the story. As well as this I made the player play as an astronaut, as many people o talked to said they would enjoy playing as an astronaut.
  • 57. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. • My main strength of the final package was my photography as I got the perfect lighting for the 2 pictures to get combined and make it look good. I also edited one of the pictures to the colour blue which I think is one of my strengths as it was originally red, and it looks more sci-fi with those colours together. • The main weakness of my final package was probably the double spread page magazine as I think I could have set it out to look more aesthetically pleasing and not jumbled altogether.
  • 58. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. • I believe my main strength of the final package is definitely my artwork and my 8-bit sci-fi style, as I feel it gives the game an authentic retro style whilst also giving it the effects to feel like its futuristic. I also think the background Is a big strength as it makes the game feel more immersive. • My main weakness is that I could have made more levels to the game and expanded the lore of the game, this would have drawn out my project and made it more complete
