has a cost for the consumer which is profited by the
company.
Connection: Recreation – The cinema is recreation because
it's an activity that can be enjoyed by all ages and is a group
activity. While going to the cinema isn't very social, it's an
experience that can become social, by discussing the movie
after the fact. Movies are also great places you can
experience recreation on your own while being out in public
but not being seen by the public. Having a movie theatre in
a community "Increase in employment opportunities."

3. John Knox Christian School
Address: 13th Ave, Burnaby
Service Sector: Commercial – The John Knox Christian Schoolis commercial because it is
privately owned and comes with a cost to attend.
Connection: Physical Education– It is physical educationbecause there are paid teachers who
work at the school, who are trained in what they are teaching.

4. EXIT Burnaby

Service Sector: Commercial – This is commercial
because it is a public service that can be used by
anyone but at a cost, and therefore a profit to the
company. It is consumer-based and is specifically
only one activity.
Connection: Recreation – This is an example of
recreation because it is used as a fun activity for all
ages, meant to get you out of the house, have fun,
problem solve, and work with a team. This is a
mentally stimulating activity as well as partially
physical. It is not government-run, it's privately run.

5. Deer Lake Park
Address: Sperling Ave, Burnaby
Service Sector: Public – The free park allows for fitness, leisure, recreation and creativity, by being free,
spacious and by having variety in purpose.
Connection: Recreation – This is recreation because it's free and the municipal government keeps the park
clean and usable for all ages, to "provide opportunities for recreation to disadvantaged clients: the poor,
persons with physical or mental disabilities, etc." (Lunn, 2021, p.3).

6. Robert Burnaby Outdoor Pool
Address: Wedgewood St, Burnaby
Service sector: Public - Robert Burnaby outdoor pool provides fitness, fun, leisure, and recreation, to all ages
and all lifestyles; at little charge making if inclusive to all incomes.
Connection: Recreation - "Recreation is a fundamental human need for persons of all age and is essential to
a person’s physical and social wellbeing and to the overall quality of life." (Lunn, 2021, p. 5). Robert Burnaby
pool is under the municipal level of government because it is in place to "encourage the development of
recreation programs." (Lunn, 2021, p. 5)

7. Burnaby Mountain Park
Address: Centennial Way, Burnaby
Service Sector: Public – Burnaby mountain park offers a variety of outdoor leisurely activities fit for all
ages. There is a rose garden, picnic areas, sculptures, playgrounds, trails and many viewpoints to allow for
long days being active and having a variety of things to do.
Connection: Recreation – This is recreation because it is a free park under the care and maintenace of the
municipal government, intended for public use, to maintain a healthy and happy community.

8. Burnaby More Sports
Address: Beresford St Unit 100, Burnaby
Service Sector: Volunteer – Burnaby More Sports is
volunteer-based as the coaches are not being paid but have a
level of experience and qualification to be able to teach the
sports.
Connection: Coaching – Burnaby More Sports is a non-
profit organization that provides free after-school sports to
kids and families that can't afford paid organized sports. The
program receives donations to keep the program going and
the coaches are volunteers.

9. Kudoz
Address: Imperial St, Burnaby
Service Sector: Volunteer – Kudoz is a volunteer-run
program out of a café, which is privately owned, the
volunteers who are a part of the program and not the
café are not paid.
Connection: Recreation – Kudoz is a place for people
to be able to come to socialize, their mission is to bring
everyone together, disabled or abled, bringing like-
minded individuals with common interests and
passions together.

10. VLMFSS
Address: Kingsway Ste 306, Burnaby
Service Sector: Volunteer and Public – The VLMFSS is
funded by The Ministry Of Public Safety and Solicitor
General and The Public Health Agency Of Canada, which
makes this a public program, but it also volunteer run,
giving lots of people in the community a chance to give
back.
Connection: Recreation and Physical Education –
Vancouver & Lower Mainland Multicultural Family Support
Services Society (VLMFSS), is a volunteer program that
gives families and children a safe place to go to be able to
learn, play and socialize. It provides classes for parents,
from people who have knowledge in that field, and provides
recreation to kids.
