Sika presented new resin technologies that provide advanced UV protection for seamless floor systems. Four technologies were introduced: 1) Sikafloor 33NA PurCem, an aliphatic polyurethane/cement top coat that allows light colored screeds while maintaining thermal shock resistance. 2) Sikafloor 217 and 510N LPL, epoxy and polyaspartic resins with improved UV resistance for use in decorative flooring. 3) Sikafloor 315N, an aliphatic polyurethane top coat with UV blocker technology. 4) Sikafloor 510N LPL, a polyaspartic resin for use in decorative flooring with improved UV resistance.

Nano-Clear Industrial coating was applied to an oxidized fiberglass lifeboat to stop UV degradation and enhance the color/appearance of the lifeboat. Wax and buffing lifeboats does not provide long-term protection from the elements. Applying Nano-Clear will create a coating on the lifeboat that will resist UV and salt water that will last for 10 years - elliminating the cost of waxing & buffing which more than pays for the cost of Nano-Clear.
Owens Corning presentation by Geoffrey Wilson at JEC Europe 2014 on new innovative solutions for the global building and construction industry through glass non-wovens
During JECWorl2018, Owens Corning's Kendall Thacker explored the compelling case for composites in delivering next-generation solutions for infrastructure challenges associated with building the cities of tomorrow.
This presentation will cover the Composite Market growth trends and Owens Corning glass fiber product developments for end-user productivity and product performance improvements. The presentation includes Owens Corning product developments around sizing chemistry, product property and glass chemistry innovations that deliver a range of product solutions in key glass fiber market segments including wind energy, automotive, construction and industrial applications.
The transportation market represents a very large segment where light-weighting composite solutions are progressing in mass transit and automotive applications. Inevitably, the main drivers are the reduction of fuel consumption and the need to lower CO2 emissions. In addition, OEMs and automakers are looking for enhanced parts performance and durability, better acoustics and production efficiency gains.
On the transportation market, Owens Corning offers solutions for redefined surface appearance or weight reduction without sacrificing performance, while meeting the strict regulatory constraints on fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Owens Corning innovation is backed by state-of-the-art modeling and testing capabilities.

Billet defects pinhole and blowhole formation, prevention and evolutionJorge Madias
Pin holes as a surface defect, and blow holes as an inner defect, occur in billet / bloom / beam blank casting, particularly for Si-Mn killed steel cast with metering nozzle and oil lubrication. If they are present in abundance or have a large size, they may originate defects in the rolled products. Their characteristics, factors behind their formation, as well as usual processing conditions that promote their occurrence are discussed. Finally, the evolution of these defects during reheating and rolling is analyzed, with industrial examples.

Glass in overhead applications is most often laminated and requires either visible point fixings or continuous edge support, both of which may perturb the uniform glass surface envisioned by the architect. In response, Sika and sedak together developed a novel
laminated composite system which combines a monolithic glass panel, a layer of self-levelling silicone adhesive — Sikasil® GS-687 — and a load transferring perforated metal panel. Utilizing this laminar silicone system has made it possible to install
glass in overhead situations as well as in vertical details (e.g. spandrels and glass walls) without any visible mechanical fixings, thus creating large, even, opaque glass surfaces. Furthermore, this system, in a recent project, made it possible to achieve a weight
reduction of 30 % when a PVB-laminated safety glass system composed of 2 x 12 mm thicknesses was replaced by a laminar composition system comprising a 10 mm thick glass panel, a 6 mm thick layer of silicone and a 3 mm thick aluminum back sheet.
