Swiftpage has been "a little busy" since buying ACT from Sage Software. If you've struggled with getting support or easy answers to simple email design and execution issues, here are 25 of our favorite hacks and shortcuts. (If you're tired of fighting with your software, go here: http://www.thedatabasediva.com/outgrown-act)
12. 6. Use [First Name] not [Salutation]
Not all data sources have a salutation
Most have a first name (especially new contacts
coming in from the web.)
13. 7. Remove Hyperlinks Underlines
Looks prettier, more professional.
First create your hyperlink as you normally do.
Then, go to the template SOURCE and copy this code:
<a style="text-decoration:none;color:orange;"
href=“http://www.thedatabase.com”>
www.thedatabasediva.com</a>
Before: www.thedatabasediva.com
After: www.thedatabasediva.com
18. 11. Segregate “free” from
“business” email addresses
Free accounts have higher opt-out rates, higher spam
filtering
Are often checked infrequently.
They will lower your overall deliverability, open and
click-thru rate.
Mail these separately and compare metrics.
Strive to replace these addresses with the recipient’s
primary email address.
19.
20. 12. Create an SPF Record

21. 13. Test your SPF Record

35. 22. Test Personalized Subject Lines
Example Subject Line:
I thought of you while writing this, [First Name]
Note: Not recommended for newsletters and HTML
templates (too spammy)
Won’t work in the drip marketing module.

Welcome to this advanced training on 25 Swiftpage Hacks and ShortcutsI’m Lori Feldman, President of Aviva LLC and “The Database Diva.” which was recently named the Top Swiftpage Reseller in the world. We help Swiftpage and ACT users grow their business with email and drip marketing. Today’s training was inspired by all of the calls I’ve gotten recently about how difficult it is for some users to create and modify Swiftpage templates. Since Swiftpage purchased ACT from Sage, getting help has been much more challenging, for sure. So these are the hacks and shortcuts we’ve used for many years that helps us maximize our email marketing efforts.OK, here’s how it works:Today’s presentation is being recorded. You will automatically receive a copy plus our list of resources we’ll be talking about. On your screen you should see the meeting panel, which has a place for you to enter your questions. I’ll be monitoring questions as we go and we’ll save time for Q&A at the end.We want to keep this session to 60 minutes, as promised. So at the end, I’ll let you know when our time’s up, and we’ll officially end the meeting. However, if you still have questions, we’ll stay on a bit longer, and that will be part of the recording if you need to jump off.OK, let me introduce Todd who will be presenting our Swiftpage TUT in just a bit…
Todd Viau is VP of Technology Services and has been with our company for 15 years. Today he’s our man behind the curtain, but he’s our Swiftpage expert, so you’ll be hearing from him later and he’ll be around for your questions.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you open the Swiftpage editor you can’t perform certain functions or it opens in HTML?It’s not you…It’s Swiftpage. There is a browser incompatibility.Don’t use anything but Firefox to design and modify your templates
One of the biggest complaints I hear about Swiftpage is how difficult it can be to work with the content editor. But if you just need to send out a quick, trackable email, here’s a tip.
from the internet, Word, or any other program. (Windows Start button > Type Notepad). Notepad removes extraneous code, reducing formatting time in the Swiftpage content editor. You can use the Word or Text converter in the content editor, but it’s not always reliable

Swiftpage suppresses all opt-outs and 3bounce emails for you.But if you’re really working your list, you’ll want to keep up with lost opportunities because of opt-outs, bounces, bad addresses, duplicatesNeither ACT or Swiftpage make it easy for you to do this. But you can get a free add-on app called Email Address Lookup from Exponenciel.com that works great.Essentially
Many Swiftpage subscribers don’t realize that a survey tool is built into their spe subscription. If you paid for Survey Monkey or similar, for ex., you’d pay up to $50/mo in another sub fee. It’s a great utility
On our next Swiftpage Training, we’ll cover how to set up list clean-up surveys and customer surveys that automatically update your ACT database and give you topics to talk about on blog posts and social media.
Use hidden fields to track where info comes from. Map it to the Referred By field
No one can know what will work best for readershipSort your list by ascending email address (randomizes the list). Create 3 different subject linesSend the same email at the same time to 100 contacts each with the 3 different subject linesCheck your open rates and click-thru’s after 2 hours.
