1. Question One: In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Our main character, Olivia, we developed from the
character Tris from Divergent. We wanted our female
lead to have a clear progression throughout our trailer,
being represented as vulnerable and then becoming
stronger and more independent.
Similarly, Tris begins to find herself more as the film goes
on and becomes more confident in her situation, like
Olivia becoming the stronger character.
The character Olivia would have broken stereotypes for
her strength and control in the trailer, however this genre
is introducing strong female leads and we are seeing
more and more females taking the lead in post-
apocyliptic films and action.
3. Our character Nate, was developed from the
character Peeta from The Hunger Games. We
wanted his masculinity to come through but also his
softer side needed to be represented. We felt our
target audience would find this a relatable character
within the trailer.
We wanted the character Connor to represent masculinity
and strength. His character is portrayed more arrogant and
serious than Nates. His role his survival and we this
character as a tool to explain our narrative to the audience,
showing his natural leader ship. Connor was developed from
the character Four from Divergent where his main focus his
also his strength and masculinity.
The two male characters are both relatable to an audience
and can be seen as object of desires, stereotypically, to the
other sex.
4. The control room was developed also from
The Hunger Games and we wanted to
convey the idea that they are being
watched. The first shot we use this for the
dialogue ‘Station 21 is now active’ helps to
establish this and later on when the setting
is used again they stand in from of a screen
watching the characters from the shot
before and they can be seen discussing
and monitoring our main characters.
Our two locations was a rural setting where
the characters are placed and then a
control room where they are being watched
and monitored.
We used the idea of the rural setting from
The Hunger Games as it allowed us to
quickly portray the need for survival in a
short amount of time in the trailer.
