Purpose of Research
The main reason for research is to develop your knowledge of
the product. There are many different types of research
including, Surveys and Questionnaires, where you are
creating a series of questions and allowing random people to
give their opinion and learn what they like and don’t like.
You can organise focus groups where you can ask exactly
what you want to know. Also you can gather people together
and create a focus group, and interviews and textual analysis
etc.
Primary Research
Primary Research is information that you have sourced
yourself. We need to do primary research to develop our
projects and if we have sourced it ourselves then we will
know what works and what doesn’t work. Also by
researching it yourself you can tailor it directly to your
needs. I am intending to research different sports adverts to
see different ideas and interpretation of a sport advert. Also
seeing what works and impresses the audience by surveys
and questionnaires, so that I could hopefully put all these
things into my advert and make it amazing.
Primary Research Techniques
My primary research for my stop motion would mostly be
quantative research, getting an overall look at everything
making surveys and questionnaires. I will present my
results in a graphs and tables, this method of research
allows me to see a more vague but productive method.
But this method takes more time because it’s more in
depth, getting more people’s opinions so you get a more
varied results. So I’m doing it for my primary research so I
can do it and have a greater understanding of what I am
aiming to achieve.
Secondary Research
Secondary Research is research that is carried out with already
existing data, newspapers and magazines which are using
material that they have found out or are using a secondary
source as well because the primary research has already been
documented and they are taking that from the primary sources. I
will be reading books by different animators see how they started
and how they have come to how they work now with their own
unique style and watching adverts and stop motions to develop
my knowledge and hopefully the research will show in my final
piece by taking all the things into account and try and make
something that appeals to everyone and that they will want to
keep watching it.
Secondary Research Technique
My secondary research would be qualitative research, asking
questions involving ‘how many’ and ‘how much’ and these are more
demanding questions, trying to make them think a little bit more.
When I get these results, I am planning to make bar charts and piecharts to show my results clearly. This type of research allows a
more honest opinion to really get in depth with them and not just
simple saying yes or no, or giving numbers. This is the reason I am
doing this after my quantative research because it doesn’t as long.
