1) After safely making land on the island of Malta, the islanders showed Paul and his fellow travelers unusual kindness by building a fire to warm them since it was raining and cold. 2) When Paul gathered brushwood for the fire, a viper bit his hand but he shook it off without harm, amazingly causing the islanders to change their minds about him and say he was a god. 3) The chief official of the island, Publius, welcomed Paul and his group to his home for three days and showed them generous hospitality. Paul then healed Publius' sick father. As a result, the rest of the sick on the island came to Paul and were cured,
