The document summarizes Paul's shipwreck journey to Rome and the lessons that can be learned from enduring trials. It describes how Paul reassured the other passengers not to lose hope as God had promised their lives would be spared. Though the ship was destroyed, all 276 passengers reached land safely. Paul was then able to heal others on the island of Malta and the locals provided them supplies for their onward journey. The document encourages facing trials with courage and faith as one's faith will be strengthened through enduring hardships, like gold refined by fire.

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

3. 2-4 Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when
tests and challenges come at you from
all sides. You know that under pressure,
your faith-life is forced into the open
and shows its true colors. So don’t try to
get out of anything prematurely. Let it
do its work so you become mature and
well-developed, not deficient in any
way.
JAMES 1: 2-5
4. 5-8 If you don’t know what you’re doing,
pray to the Father. He loves to help.
You’ll get his help, and won’t be
condescended to when you ask for it.
JAMES 1: 2-5
5. 12 Anyone who meets a testing
challenge head-on and manages to stick
it out is mighty fortunate. For such
persons loyally in love with God, the
reward is life and more life.
JAMES 1: 12
13. 21-22 With our appetite for both food and life long
gone, Paul took his place in our midst and said,
“Friends, you really should have listened to me
back in Crete. We could have avoided all this
trouble and trial. But there’s no need to dwell on
that now. From now on, things are looking up! I
can assure you that there’ll not be a single
drowning among us, although I can’t say as much
for the ship—the ship itself is doomed.
14. 23-26 “Last night God’s angel stood at my side,
an angel of this God I serve, saying to me,
‘Don’t give up, Paul. You’re going to stand
before Caesar yet—and everyone sailing with
you is also going to make it.’ So, dear friends,
take heart. I believe God will do exactly what
he told me. But we’re going to shipwreck on
some island or other.”
15. 27-29 On the fourteenth night, adrift
somewhere on the Adriatic Sea, at about
midnight the sailors sensed that we were
approaching land. Sounding, they measured a
depth of 120 feet, and shortly after that ninety
feet. Afraid that we were about to run
aground, they threw out four anchors and
prayed for daylight.
16. 30-32 Some of the sailors tried to jump ship.
They let down the lifeboat, pretending they
were going to set out more anchors from the
bow. Paul saw through their guise and told
the centurion and his soldiers, “If these sailors
don’t stay with the ship, we’re all going
down.” So the soldiers cut the lines to the
lifeboat and let it drift off.
17. 33-34 With dawn about to break, Paul called
everyone together and proposed breakfast:
“This is the fourteenth day we’ve gone
without food. None of us has felt like eating!
But I urge you to eat something now. You’ll
need strength for the rescue ahead. You’re
going to come out of this without even a
scratch!”
18. 35-38 He broke the bread, gave thanks to God,
passed it around, and they all ate heartily—
276 of us, all told! With the meal finished and
everyone full, the ship was further lightened
by dumping the grain overboard.
19. 42-44 The soldiers decided to kill the prisoners
so none could escape by swimming, but the
centurion, determined to save Paul, stopped
them. He gave orders for anyone who could
swim to dive in and go for it, and for the rest
to grab a plank. Everyone made it to shore
safely.
23. 10 “Men, I can see that our voyage is
going to be disastrous and bring great
loss to ship and cargo, and to our own
lives also.”
24. 21 After they had gone a long time without
food, Paul stood up before them and said:
“Men, you should have taken my advice not to
sail from Crete; then you would have spared
yourselves this damage and loss.22 But now I
urge you to keep up your courage, because
not one of you will be lost; only the ship will
be destroyed.
25. 23 Last night an angel of the God to whom I
belong and whom I serve stood beside
me 24 and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You
must stand trial before Caesar; and God has
graciously given you the lives of all who sail
with you.’
31. 33 “I have told you these things, so that
in Me you may have peace. In this world
you will have trouble. But take heart! I
have overcome the world.”
32. The same fire
that melts the
wax, is the same
fire that hardens
the clay.
42. 31 Then Paul said to the centurion and the
soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship,
you cannot be saved.”
32 So the soldiers cut the ropes that held the
lifeboat and let it drift away.
43. 33 Just before dawn Paul urged them all to eat.
“For the last fourteen days,” he said, “you
have been in constant suspense and have
gone without food—you haven’t eaten
anything.
34 Now I urge you to take some food. You need
it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single
hair from his head.”
44. Look on,
who God is,
that He is in control
of everything, that
everything is
in His hands
45. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it
again: Rejoice!
49. 35 After he said this, he took some bread and
gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he
broke it and began to eat. 36 They were all
encouraged and ate some food themselves.
37 Altogether there were 276 of us on board.
38 When they had eaten as much as they
wanted, they lightened the ship by throwing
the grain into the sea.
50. 39 When daylight came, they did not recognize
the land, but they saw a bay with a sandy
beach, where they decided to run the ship
aground if they could. 40 Cutting loose the
anchors, they left them in the sea and at the
same time untied the ropes that held the
rudders. Then they hoisted the foresail to the
wind and made for the beach.
51. 41 But the ship struck a sandbar and ran
aground. The bow stuck fast and would not
move, and the stern was broken to pieces by
the pounding of the surf.
42 The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners to
prevent any of them from swimming away
and escaping.
52. 43 But the centurion wanted to spare Paul’s
life and kept them from carrying out their
plan. He ordered those who could swim to
jump overboard first and get to land. 44 The
rest were to get there on planks or on other
pieces of the ship. In this way everyone
reached land safely.
53. 7 These have come so that your faith--of
greater worth than gold, which perishes even
though refined by fire--may be proved
genuine and may result in praise, glory and
honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.(NIV)
57. 1 Once safely on shore, we found out that the
island was called Malta.
2 The islanders showed us unusual kindness.
They built a fire and welcomed us all because
it was raining and cold.
3 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he
put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the
heat, fastened itself on his hand.
58. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging
from his hand, they said to each other, "This
man must be a murderer; for though he
escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed
him to live.“
5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire
and suffered no ill effects.
59. 6 The people expected him to swell up or
suddenly fall dead, but after waiting a long
time and seeing nothing unusual happen to
him, they changed their minds and said he
was a god.
7 There was an estate nearby that belonged to
Publius, the chief official of the island. He
welcomed us to his home and for three days
entertained us hospitably.
60. 8 His father was sick in bed, suffering from
fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him
and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and
healed him.
9 When this had happened, the rest of the sick
on the island came and were cured.
10 They honored us in many ways and when
we were ready to sail, they furnished us with
the supplies we needed.
62. • What unexpected troubles are you
currently dealing with?
• What hardship do you need to shake off
that you haven’t yet?
• What can you do to better see adversity
coming, so you don’t go running?
• Is the fire that you are undergoing right
now melts you or it will harden you?
63. 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres
under trial, because when he has stood
the test, he will receive the crown of life
that God has promised to those who
love him.
64. 7 These have come so that your faith--of
greater worth than gold, which perishes
even though refined by fire--may be
proved genuine and may result in praise,
glory and honor when Jesus Christ is
revealed.
