Acrylic setup and cleanup

- 2. Acrylic Paint • Polymer (plastic) • Dries quickly • Can easily paint over it • Permanent!
- 3. Little or aLot • Acrylic doesn’t go back in the tube easily – doesn’t save easily. • Can always go back for more.
- 4. Gesso • Primes paper or canvas for acrylic paint • Will NOT come out of your clothes • Great for whiting out any mistakes • Washes good for tinting
- 5. Freezer Paper • Shiny Side Up • Throw it away when you are finished
- 6. Setting up the Palette • Lay out your paint along the edge • Leave mixing room – THE WELL! • Warm & Light on one side • Cool & Dark on the other
- 7. Storing your palette! • LIGHTLY mist the palette! • Wrap with saran wrap for the next day • “Double-Decker” your palette with saran wrap
- 8. Different Brushes – Different Strokes • Each brush makes it own mark • Know your brush’s anatomy • Shape of the brush determines what line or brushstroke you camke Rounded Filling in Drawing Edges areas; thick Lines brushstrokes
- 9. Mixing Paint & Savingyour BRUSHES • Mix with a palette knife! (or the end of your paint brush) • NEVER let your brush rest with paint on it!
- 10. Clean Water! • Keep your water clean! • No share-skies! • Wipe your brushes between the paint colors • Use a paper towel or a paint rag
- 11. Can’t paint witha GROSS brush • Swirl your brush in the water • Rinse the brush in the water • Rub some soap into the brush, • Rinse most of the soap away • Form the brush to dry • Stand it up to dry
- 12. Save your Paint! • Mix in the well! • Use a palette knife to save the acrylic paint that is not “tainted” • DON’T PUT ACRYLIC PAINT INTO THE DRAIN!!
