This document provides information about the Kittilä gold mine in Finland, owned and operated by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited. It discusses the mine's background, operations, and environmental permit requirements to reduce sulfate concentrations in effluent water. The mine has been in production since 2008 and is planned to operate until 2036. Agnico Eagle is participating in a project called MIWARE to evaluate biological sulfate and metal removal techniques to treat mine effluent to meet the permit requirements of less than 2000 mg/L of sulfate by 2017. The goal is to test these techniques to treat effluent and obtain information for a potential demonstration at the Kittilä site.
