The "Bread Basket" is organised to help foreign construction workers with a bag of daily necessities that can help them stretch their limited income. The secondary benefit is that it provides the volunteers a first hand look at the conditions the workers face.

 Worker has to pay recruiter a placement fee of
$6K and above to work in Singapore
 This fee is paid by getting a loan from
friends/relatives/ banks/loan sharks, etc
 Average salary is between $800 to
$1,000/month
 After deducting meals and living expenses it
takes between 1.5 to 2 years to pay off debt
 Some forego their meals and days off so that
they can pay off their debt faster

5. Strategy
 Target foreign construction workers in their
dorms where they gather in quantity especially
on their day off on Sunday
 Distribute food rations and personal toiletries
on bi-monthly basis
 Engage the young in schools and parishes to
educate them on migrant’s plight
 Conduct periodic survey among workers to
collate information as required for specific
advocacy projects
