Acid rain is a rain or any other form of precipitation that is unusually acidic, meaning that it has elevated levels of hydrogen ions. It can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals and infrastructure.it's about acid rain, causes, effects, human health effects and some common examples videos, pictures

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Acid Rain
The precipitation containing acid in amount more than
usual is called acid rain.
The rain water having pH less than 5.5 is called acid
rain.

Causes:
• Burning coal, Oil and natural
gas, in power stations makes
gas, in power stations makes
electricity, giving off sulphur
electricity, giving off sulphur

• These gases mix with water These gases mix
with water vapour and rainwater in the vapour
and rainwater in the atmosphere producing

of sulphuric and solutions of sulphuric and
nitric acids – which fall as acid nitric acids –
which fall as acid rain

vehicle engines gives off vehicle engines gives off
nitrogen oxides as gases.

Reactions & Formation:
sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) are
emitted into the atmosphere and transported by
wind and air currents. The SO2 and NOX react with
water, oxygen and other chemicals to form sulfuric
and nitric acids. These then mix with water and
other materials before falling to the ground.

Effects of Acid Rain
The effects of acid rain, combined with other
environmental stressors, leave trees and plants
less healthy, more vulnerable to cold
temperatures, insects, and disease.
10
11. Your Logo or Name Here
Effects on agriculture:
Acid rain affects plants directly and decreases soil
quality to reduce yields from agriculture.
Its effects are particularly severe in locations near
sources of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.

Effects on Aquatic:
The ecological effects of acid rain are most
clearly seen in aquatic environments, such as
streams, lakes, and marshes where it can be
harmful to fish and other wildlife

Effects on drinking water :
Drinking water which has been contaminated
with acid rain can cause brain damage over time.

Effects on Soil:
Acid rain damages soil biology and chemisty.
Microbes not able to tolerate pH die.
Upper fertile layer of soil is affect as essential
nutrients are leached away from soil.
