Acculturation Model

Schumann's acculturation model proposes that social and psychological factors influence how well immigrants adapt to a new culture. The model identifies social dominance, enclosure, cohesiveness, cultural size, attitude, intended length of residence, language shock, culture shock, motivation, and ego permeability as important factors. These factors determine the degree to which immigrants integrate into the new culture or maintain ties to their original culture.
