HOW SOME COMMON WORDS IN ENGLISH and TURKISH ARE
ACCENTED
This article is specially written for those whose native language is
Turkish because Turkish students learning English cannot accent
English words correctly. There are primarily, secondarily and weakly
accented syllables in English words. Among these syllables, the
primarily stressed accents are far more important than the other two.
In this article the primarily accented syllables are written red.
Two-Syllable English nouns and adjectives:
bayby (bebek) (noun)

The unaccented prefixes are “un, in, ir, im, il, dis, de, re, ex and mis”.
All of these prefixes mean “not”, but “mis” means “wrong”.

Nearly all the inflexional suffixes are not accented in English. For ins-
tance:
going, sleeping, playing, raining, memoriseing, cleaning, falling
walked, swallowed, cleaned, finished, copied, postponed, rejected
friendly, carefully, instantly, bravely, usually, certainly, cleverly,
carefully, instantly, bravely , hopelessly, eagerly, funny, handy
happiness, sorrowful, wonderful, hopeless, stainless, childless, larger
smaller, shortest, quickest, warmest , coldest, funnyest, sweetest

HOW SOME COMMON WORDS IN ENGLISH and TURKISH ARE ACCENTED This article is specially written for those whose native language is Turkish because Turkish students learning English cannot accent English words correctly. There are primarily, secondarily and weakly accented syllables in English words. Among these syllables, the primarily stressed accents are far more important than the other two. In this article the primarily accented syllables are written red.
