Welcome Helm users! CNCF Flux has a best-in-class way to use Helm according to GitOps principles. For you, that means improved security, reliability, and velocity - no more being on the pager on the weekends or having painful troubleshooting or rollback when things go wrong. Built on Kubernetes controller-runtime, Flux’s Helm Controller is an example of a mature software agent that uses Helm’s SDK to full effect.
Flux’s biggest addition to Helm is a structured declaration layer for your releases that automatically gets reconciled to your cluster based on your configured rules:
⭐️ The Helm client commands let you imperatively do things
⭐️ Flux Helm Custom Resources let you declare what you want the Helm SDK to do automatically
During this session, Scott Rigby, Developer Experience Engineer at Weaveworks and Flux & Helm Maintainer, will take you on a tour of Flux’s Helm Controller, share the additional benefits Flux adds to Helm and then walk through a live demo of how to manage helm releases using Flux.
If you want to follow along with Scott’s demo, here are a couple of resources to help you prepare ahead of time:

Kubernetes configuration and security policies with KubeLinter | DevNation Te...Red Hat Developers
With Kubernetes, implementing security policies can be challenging. First, developers, administrators, and security teams need to understand security policies in collaboration to have the best chance of successful adoption. Next, policy enforcement needs to integrate with developer workflows. Lastly, policies need to contain corrective action that is as close to the developer as possible. KubeLinter solves these problems by linting Kubernetes YAML files and Helm charts at the source: the developer.
In this session, we will evaluate KubeLinter by moving through a hands-on demo of the application, showing a use case for local machines and CI pipeline integration, and chatting about how best to integrate it into your organization:

Developing, Deploying, and Consuming L4-7 Network Services in an OpenStack CloudIgor D.C.
The OpenStack infrastructure services for compute, networking, and storage have matured and are seeing increased adoption in production environments. In this tutorial session we will show you how to combine these fundamental services with other ancillary services around image management, security, monitoring, policy-based orchestration to build, deploy and consume rich networking services in your OpenStack Cloud.
This tutorial session is aimed at developers, operators, and users alike. A working environment will be provided to the attendees for experimentation. If you are a developer or vendor, you will learn how to leverage existing OpenStack constructs to expose your service offering. If you are an operator, you will learn how to configure, deploy and expose these service offerings in a few simple steps. If you are a user, you will learn how to consume single services, or compose a chain of services, and incorporate them in your application topology.
Achieve True Hybrid Cloud with Azure - Built for Scale, Security and Interope...Cloudify Community
The Azure cloud has been building their latest features and advancements to handle complex , large-scale systems, all while taking into account the security considerations enterprises face. This session will dive into how Azure is uniquely positioning itself to respond to the growing needs of today's businesses, and specifically the financial services industry, all while building a strategy around open source collaboration, to enable a hybrid stack approach - from their container offering, through data center management and migration.
PHP is the most commonly used server-side programming and deployed more than 80% in web server all over the world. However, PHP is a 'grown' language rather than deliberately engineered, making writing insecure PHP applications far too easy and common. If you want to use PHP securely, then you should be aware of all its pitfalls.
At Percona Live in April 2016, Red Hat's Kyle Bader reviewed the general architecture of Ceph and then discussed the results of a series of benchmarks done on small to mid-size Ceph clusters, which led to the development of prescriptive guidance around tuning Ceph storage nodes (OSDs).
Holistic Security for OpenStack CloudsMajor Hayden
Nothing clears out a conference room faster than a discussion around information security. Securing complex computer systems, such as OpenStack clouds, is extremely difficult. To make matters worse, attackers can make many mistakes without consequences. A defender’s single mistake could lead to a breach.
Don't let fear rule the discussion around security.
Operators need a simple and scalable method for securing OpenStack clouds. That starts with grouping components into compartments and then looking at how those compartments interact with each other. Those interactions form the backbone of security policies and technical controls.
In this vendor-neutral talk, Major Hayden, principal architect at Rackspace, will break down the complexity of securing OpenStack clouds using real-world scenarios. Attendees will learn how to:
Divide OpenStack deployments into compartments
Analyze the interactions between each component
Develop security policies and apply technical controls

DevOps by CHEF solution works best when developer and operations work well together. The solution automates the applications configuration, deployment and management throughout your network regardless of its size, even if you’re operating in the cloud, on-premises or on a hybrid.Chef helps you describe your infrastructure with code. Because your infrastructure is managed with code, it can be automated, tested and reproduced with ease.
Why DevOps by Chef?
Time to value Deploy faster. Deploy Often. Reduce cost/time to deliver
Developer ‘Self-service’. Allow Developers to Build and Test against ‘Production-like’ systems
Increase Quality. Reduce cost/time to test o Increase test coverage
Increase environment utilization. Virtualizes Dev and Test Environments

OSDC 2013 | Tutorial and demonstration of failover from EC2 to OpenStack usin...NETWAYS
Sudden Cloud outages seem to happen every few months, with no major Cloud company successfully preventing them.
Each time, well known companies and websites who should know better are caught out. The cost is time, money, reputation, and trust.
This OSDC presentation will show how to stay up when Amazon's EC2 goes down. The setup and deployment of Linux applications to EC2 will be demonstrated using Aeolus, and then you will learn how to fail them over to a public OpenStack cloud when trouble strikes -- quickly and with minimal impact.
This presentation will be of _serious interest_ to everyone who needs their public cloud applications (running on Linux) to be resilient to cloud outages.
Eager to learn more about OpenStack? This presentation provides an overview of OpenStack basics and an introduction to the types of storage in OpenStack. Choosing the right storage for your cloud can be the hardest part of building out your environment – this is a great primer to picking the right storage for your OpenStack deployment.

Test-Driven Cloud Development with Oracle SOA Cloud Service and Oracle Develo...Sven Bernhardt
Automated tests are key for quality assurance and for ensuring business agility from a long-term perspective. That is especially important in complex integration projects if you develop your integrations on-premises or in the cloud. If a hybrid strategy is used, it is important to have a consistent testing approach for cloud and on-premises. In this session learn how to implement a consistent approach based on Oracle SOA Cloud Service that works on-premises and in the cloud. See how this approach can test BPEL, BPMN, SB, Java, human tasks, XSLT, and XQuery across all relevant test layers (elementary unit tests, component tests, end-to-end tests) consistently.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
