What is Scholarly/ Academic Writing
Scholarly writing and academic writing are
interchangeably used.
It is just different in writing as compare to fiction,
journalism, poetry or easy writing and personal
communications.
In scholarly wittings writers insert logics, evidences for
creating strong narrative and avoid bias.
It is based on clear and short writing grammatically error
free.
It is part of academic work that follows a particular
writing style (APA, MLA, IEEE etc)
Method of Academic/ Scholarly Writing
Clear and concise based on research which depicts understanding of a
certain topic
A credible piece of work supported by peer review process and
references with solid authority within its discipline
Not simple use of your opinions but Use literature sources to validate or
support your opinion
Correct use of spellings, punctuation, grammar and sentence structure
Logical flow in text (not jumps)
Avoid jargon in writing
Types of Scholarly Writing
Four Common types of scholarly writing
are prescribed in literature.
1- Descriptive
It is simple writing that explains realities or data presented in the
academic work. It can be summary expression about a process.
Research Method and Result section are often written under this types
2-Analytical
Where relationships are to build, make comparisons among different
aspects, this types is being followed. Results are mostly written umder
this type.

3- Persuasive
This type of writing is used where you need to make conclusive build
up or a specific narrative by compiling available data, realities of
results. Argument building, presenting logics or giving reasons and
evidences are famous aspects of this type. Often discussion and
conclusion sections are written under this type.
4- Critical
Where merits of demerits are to build based on evidences, supporting
a particular point of view, this types is followed.
