Essay About English Language
1. Presently, English is the most wide spread language in terms of the number of countries that
speak the language as a mother tongue or foreign language. Regardless of languages such as
Mandarin, Arabic and Spanish having a great number of speakers, English dominates as a foreign
language for many. A Newsweek Magazine article, written by John McWhorter, ranks English as
the world's international language today and states it is likely to remain this way in the future
(McWhorter). Writer Dorie Clark for Forbes Magazine also supports this claim from an economic
perspective, whereas English is seen as the global language of business as well (Clark). The
importance of English is measurable by its increasing expansion in several nations around...show

Another form of media that the English language dictates is music, specifically the pop genre.
Pop music reaches various parts of the world, which is another method of it spreading globally
(Mydans). Since the majority of popular music is in English, this is what people hear then it
reaches them wherever they may be. This form of music links with popular culture, meaning that
when people hear it they feel like it is necessary to learn in order to be "cool". These forms of
media are rapidly growing, and the English language dominating them is making the language
spread rapidly as well, increasing its global importance. English's significance is also observed
through looking at its increasing expansion in parts of the world that do not typically speak the
language. Currently, it is the lingua franca ("A medium of communication between peoples of
different languages" is the definition provided by the Free Dictionary for the term lingua franca)
of Europe (Lingua Franca). Two out of every three Europeans has at least a basic understanding of
the language (Doughty). Not only is this, but an EU report claims that English is likely to become
even more dominant in the future. Although the popularity of a subject is not equivalent to its
relevance, in this case English's importance increases because it is becoming somewhat of a
necessity in society to achieve success. China is another area that is growing in its number of
English speakers, as more people

2. Importance Of English Language Arts Essay
What is English Language Arts? How does it differ from English, the language itself? English
Language Arts is not a language, but it is the study of communicating thoughts. Every subject is
important in school; each demonstrates a particular skill in education, but Language Arts builds
complexity of a person's learning. Speaking, reading, and writing are all components of language
arts. Having these skills are important; the first thing an interviewer notices is one's ability to
articulate, and learning English Language Arts helps to obtain that goal. Being able to communicate,
express one's self, and build life skills, are the reasons why English Language Arts is the most
important subject in our education. First and foremost, the...show more content...
However, as I learned more in language arts, I discovered others methods in writing. I know how
to create stories by being imaginative, or write poetry by thinking creatively. Writing takes critical
thinking, a general skill widely used in life. Subjects like math or science may use critical thinking,
but it focuses more on applying knowledge in discussions rather than your own thoughts. Learning
language arts have taught me to be more expressive; you will never know if your words could
inspire someone one day.
Lastly, English Language Arts build life skills that are crucial in life, to prepare yourself for the
outside world. The first impression in an interview is how you present yourself, not how many
achievements you have made. The way you speak, the way you act, the way you answer the
questions, are parts of doing presentations. Senior portfolio is an example of a presentation in
high school, and it is taught in English Language Arts class. The senior portfolio is probably one
of the most important projects in one's whole high school career because it reflects your growth as
a student and as an individual. Learning how to create a good portfolio from Language Arts class
shows one's education level. In addition, companies recruit people with a good education, what you
have learned in English Language Arts will prepare you in college, and your future career.

Introduction & Background of the study English as the foreign language in Kurdistan is taught from
the first year of School up to the university level. The Audio–Lingual system, which was proposed by
American etymologists in 1950s, was created from the guideline that a dialect is most importantly an
arrangement of correspondence; sounds for social composing is an optional subsidiary framework
for the recording of communicates dialect (Carroll, 1963). Consequently, the reason for the
Audio–Lingual strategy is to utilize the target dialect openly. As for each this strategy, discourse is
given need in outside dialect educating. The Audio Lingual method shows dialect through dialogues

attain to informative skill by shaping new propensities in the target dialect and defeating the old
propensities for their local dialect). The Audio–Lingual system considered dialect basically as
appearance of conduct to be learned through the arrangement of right discourse propensities
(Thornbury, 2000). As such, the objective of this technique is to frame local dialect propensities in
learners (Dendrinos, 1992). Likewise Richards and Rodgers push that outside dialect learning is
essentially a procedure of mechanical propensity arrangement, and great propensities are shaped by
giving right reactions rather than by committing errors (2001). Dialogues and example bores that

The results indicated that both native and nonnative listeners scored significantly lower on
listening comprehension tests when they listened to nonnative speakers of English, and Chinese
group scored significantly lower when listening to speakers who shared their native language.
Only Spanish group did well when they listened to their native speaker (174). This experiment

Grammar is the system of a language that is needed for a better communication. People sometimes
describe grammar as the set of rules of an English language, but in fact no language has rules. If we
think that it is all about rules, there should be someone who created the rules so that other people
can use, learn or practise it. Whereas but languages did not start like that. Languages started by
people making sounds which evolved into words, phrases and sentences. No commonly–spoken
language is fixed. All languages change over time. What we call "grammar" is simply a
reflection of a language at a particular time. When we question ourselves that do we need to learn
grammar to learn or acquire a language, the answer is no. It is not necessary to learn grammar and
acquire a language but we need to learn the grammar in order for a serious learning of a foreign
language or English language. Grammar can help you to learn a language more quickly and more

The English Language
A language that is spoken internationally is called "Global" or "World" language. A global language
is a language in which people speak internationally on a daily basis, in international organizations
and diplomatic relations. It is a "lingua franca", a language that helps people from different
backgrounds to communicate with each other. Not many languages that have been established in
human history have reached to the point in which they are called a global language, amongst those
few languages is English. Approximately 2 billion people around the world use English as a native
language, a second language or a foreign language. English is used for many causes, such as;
technical and scientific communication, education and employment.
The reason why English is a global language is because people tend to learn easier languages.

When my teacher said "good morning" to me on the very first day of school, I knew
that she would be teaching a tough subject. She didn't get any answer for that greeting because back
then, I knew nothing about "good morning". Surprisingly, as I went through the class
session on that day, I realized that "good morning" wasn't the first English phrase that
I'd known. English has been rooted in my society long before my country achieved its

When someone speaks English in my society, he or she feels a sense of withdrawal because they
are set apart to a very small group in the society. People tend to belittle this group for speaking

larger group in the society. With all these reasons, my interest towards English was completely
gone when I enrolled in secondary school, six years after my formal `encounter' with the English
language. For having this negative feeling, I became a member of a large group of students who
had never realized the significance of the English language. One day was unusually dull. I was
waiting for the teacher to come to the class and instead of revising my past English lessons that I
rarely cared about, I prayed that she wouldn't show up that day. After ten minutes' wait, she entered
the class saying "good morning". The greeting didn't bother me much, but when she
came to me asking for the assignment that she gave the day before, I was speechless and I just
gave her the blank handout that I was supposed to complete for that day. Her face showed no
emotion and with that she ripped the paper into pieces. That day marked a massive change in my
attitude toward English lessons and the English language in general. The incident was very
important to me because I then realized that even in a subtle way, language represents people and to

English Language Teaching Methods
Many countries in Asia like China, Japan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore etc., adopted English as a
foreign language not as a second language. Because considering English as a second language and
as a Foreign Language is different in their view point. They view that outside of the classroom,
English is not that much useful. They teach all the subjects in their mother tongue but in India if
one is unable to speak in English he becomes a tabooed person. Many Asian countries treat the
pupil's age, sex, race, attitude, intelligence and grasping power in teaching English. Indian teachers
neglect this aspect. For ex: a speaker from Hyderabad emphasizes more vowels before many words
because of the influence of Urdu. Straight – Istraight. And a Bihari pronounces 'sh' as 's' because of
the influence of Kharboli. Teachers don't take into consideration of this aspect and mistreat students.
So teachers have to choose the methodology as suit their classroom and environment. If teacher takes
all the factors into consideration classroom becomes more meaningful. All the methods are not

The History of the English Language In this paper I will discuss where and how the English

English language was started by a whole assortment of Germanic tribes invading England

The Proto–Indo–European language was more complex than English today. It is possible to
reconstruct three genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter) and up to eight cases (nominative,
vocative, accusative, genitive, dative, ablative, locative, instrumental). Adjectives agreed in case,
number, and gender with the noun. The verb system was also rich in inflections, used for aspect,
mood, tense, voice, person, and number. Different grammatical forms of a word were often related
by the feature of ablaut, or vowel graduation: the root vowel would change systematically to
express such differences as singular and plural or past and present tense, as is still the case in
English foot/feet or take/took (Crystal, 1997). The Proto–Indo–European language is thought to have
been spoken before 3,000 BC, and to have split up into different languages during the following
millennium (Crystal, 1997). The languages families include Celtic, Germanic, Italic, Indo–Iranian,
