BIMS Data Collection
Introduction
Upper management at BIMS has been attempting to understand the high rate of turnover the company has been experiencing from its employees recently. Though they were able to conduct a survey of their employees, the first attempt led to inaccurate data. By conducting the survey again, with a different structure, the management team at BIMS will be able to get the answers from their employees more accurately.
BIMS
Ballard Integrated Managed Services, Inc. (BIMS) primary purpose is to provide larger entities such as corporations and institutions with food and hospitality services. BIMS has undergone an integrative study as a way to determine the root cause of the company’s high turnover rate of employees. The management team at BIMS was unsuccessful when trying to find out the reason for the higher than usual turnover of their staff members. The first study contained multiple flaws due to data coding, entry problems and the construction of the questionnaire itself. The flaws of the questionnaire compromised the integrity of the data and therefore the results were disappointing. Although the results were disappointing, the data from the quantitative analysis provided useful tips that helped the organization to undergo a more solid subsequent quantitative analysis
The second quantitative study proved to be much more successful than the first as the database had improved. The data base consisted of descriptive and inferential statistics that was used to determine various relationships between the antecedent variables. The purpose in developing a predictive model was to allow BIMS to have a better understanding of the cause and effect relationships with regards to reasons employees were quitting. The results from the second quantitative study proved to be substantive, however, it was determined that more specific information was needed in order to correct the high turnover of employees. Due to failed attempts, a third study was conducted. The company used the qualitative approach as a part of the company’s internal employee development program. This information was more useful as it gathered data from their unsatisfied departing employees and also employees still employed by BIMS.
Types of Data Collected
Two types of data were collected: qualitative and quantitative. Quantitative data can be defined as variables measured by number. Qualitative data is information gathered that is strictly categorical (Lind, et al, 2012). BIMS collected qualitative data to address their concerns about employee morale in the workplace. This information was measured on a numerical scale of one to five. Although the data is measured on a numerical scale, the data is still considered qualitative because the numerical values are codes and cannot be meaningfully added, subtracted, multiplied, or ...

Our project and idea is to provide the consumer
with an online platform where ONLY the
appliances that are designated as efficient are sold.
We will work with different sectors in the
government to provide great discounts to
consumers who purchase the appliances from our
website. Additionally, the Saudi citizen who
actively purchases high efficiency appliances will
receive a discount on his/her electricity bill.

WIN-WIN SITUATION
E v e r y o n e i s b e n e f i t e d
• This deal will not be a burden on the government because when
people use efficient appliances, they will consume less energy,
thus the government spending on energy will be less.
• It is merely a process of shifting the funds from spending on
energy to spending on people, which is eventually better
utilization of the money.
7
FOR THE GOVERNMENT:
• More people use efficient appliances
• Less energy consumption
• Better spending of funds.
FOR THE CITIZENS:
• Getting a high quality and efficient
appliance with a reduced price
• Reduction in the electricity bill for
active participants
• Sense of contribution to the
environment, and participation in
the national initiatives

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

6. Why is the Dashboard a useful tool?
• Provides staff and students with information about student
engagement in comparison with course average (benchmarking)
• There is a direct relationship between student engagement and
student progression and attainment
• Students in need of support can be targeted by their behaviours
rather than based on their demographics
10. Developments during Summer 2016
• The Dashboard is a developing tool; so far it has been through three
distinct development phases since it was first piloted in 2013-14
• The following developments have been made over the summer:
- Made improvements to the student-tutor mapping process
- Made improvements to the data display for students with non-
standard start dates
- Tweaked navigation to make more intuitive
- Added new information to tables containing student details
- Added an engagement summary section
- Added the functionality for staff to make referrals to support
- Initiated two pilot schemes involving Dashboard (induction
activities/iPad trials)

Engagement alerts
Engagement alerts are generated after 2
weeks of no engagement during term time

12. Why is the count of ‘no engagement’ alerts
important?
• Student progression is related to the number of alerts raised
13. Why is the count of ‘no engagement’ alerts
important?
14. Why is the engagement summary useful?
• Convenience – engagement and usage data in one place
• Date of first usage of different resources, can prompt questions on
if student is able to use resources if they have not done so
15. Notes & Referrals
• From the start of the year, all staff will be able to refer students to
the Academic Librarians from the New Referral drop down menu
• It will open up a new window and will require some inputting, but
we aim to make this a more integrated process
• NBS staff will be able to refer students to Student Support Services
as a pilot. We will review and extend this based on feedback.
• Will look to extend to other services, e.g. employability
16. Why make a referral through the Dashboard?
• Removes barrier to services that students may not feel entitled to
use
• Peace of mind for tutor
• Tutor has visibility of if referral has been successful
• Timing of referral is stored in Dashboard
I wonder if
they actually
went?
17. Pilot 1 - Induction activity in Dashboard
• Designed to give lecturers information for early tutorials and to help
students reflect back later in the year
18. Pilot 2 - iPad Trial
• 200 iPads have been distributed amongst the academic School to
facilitate staff members using the Dashboard in one-to-one tutorials
• Feedback about this process will be collected at the end of each
term and used to inform future Dashboard developments, including
improving its functionality across devices.
• Based on findings from 2015-16 Transition Survey…
19. Feedback from the Student Transition Survey
• The transition survey was conducted with first year students (Feb/March 2016)
• 91% reported using the Dashboard at least once (90% in 2015)
