2. A shrine is a religious building connected with a holy person where
people go to worship.
J and K is the hub of different religious shrines which not only
attracts millions of tourists but also adds to the state income.
Jammu being knows as “City of Temples” where as Kashmir is
called the “Peer wearr” the alcove both having their significance.
Long long years ago various saints belonging to different religions
came here with the religious message and died here thus forming the
shrines on their graves or even making a statue of them to remember
them for generations.
Shrines to our state have proved blessing from every prespective.

4. Important Information
Built in 1480, the year of demise of
Baba Reshi Sahib
Located 5kms on the outskirts of
Gulmarg
Altitude 2133 m above the sea level.
It is 500 year old, build by Persians and
Mughals .
The best time to visit Baba Reshi
Shrine is from April To October.

5. It contains a relic, the Moi-e-
Muqqadas, believed by many
Muslims of Kashmir to be a hair of
Muhammad
The shrine is situated on the left
bank of the Dal Lake, Srinagar
daughter of Khwaja Nur-ud-Din
Eshai, became a custodian of the
relic and established the shrine.
Its length is 105 metres (344 ft)
Its width is 25 metres (82 ft)

6.  Dastgeer Sahib is a 200-year-old
shrine situated in khaniyar.
It has the old Quran written by
Hazrat Abu Bakr Sidiqqi, Hazrat
Ali, and the Mouia Pak, a piece of
hair from Gous E Azam.
The shrine was badly damaged in a
fire on 25 June 2012.
There are five Graves Situated inside
it.
It was constructed in 1806 and
expanded in 1877 by Khwaja
Sanaullah Shawl.

7. Madin Sahib is an old mosque
located near Nowshohar,
Srinagar.
Madin Sahib Masjid was built by
Sultan Zain-ul-Abideen
(Budshah) in 1448.
He named it after his teacher
Syed Mohammad Madani, who is
also buried to the left of the

8. Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani
was a poet and a prominent
Shafi'I Muslim scholar.
He was known as Shāh-e-
Hamadān ("King of
Hamadān") and Amīr-i Kabīr
("the Great Commander") and
Hazrat Ali Sani ("secound Ali")
He played a major role in
spreading Islam in Kashmir
and he has also influenced the
culture of the Kashmir valley

9.  The Roza Bal or Rauza Bal or Rozabal is
the name of a shrine located in the Khanyaar.
 The word rauza means tomb, the word bal
mean place.
 Locals believe a sage is buried here, Yuzasaf
or Yuz Asaf (or Youza Asouph), alongside
another muslim holy man, Mir Sayyid
Naseeruddin.
 The shrine was relatively unknown until the
founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim
Community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, claimed
in 1899 that it is actually the tomb of Jesus.
This belief is shared by many Ahmadis today.

11. Amarnath cave is a Hindu
shrine located in Jammu and
Kashmir.
The cave is situated at an
altitude of 3,888 m about 141 km
(88 ml) from Srinagar.
Thousands of Hindu devotees
make an annual pilgrimage to
the Amarnath cave on
challenging mountainous
terrain to see an ice stalagmite
formed inside the cave.

15. Shivkhori is a famous cave shrine of
Hindus devoted to lord Shiva,
situated in the Reasi district of
Jammu and Kashmir state in India.
In Reasi district, there are many
shrines such as Mata Vaishno Devi,
Merhada Mata, Baba Dhansar, Siad
Baba. Shiv Khori is one of them
located in Ransoo a village in the
Pouni block in Reasi district, which
attracts lakhs of devotees annually

17. Gurdwara Chatti Patshahi
at Kathi Darwaja,
Rainwari, Srinagar is one
of the most important Sikh
gurdwaras in Kashmir. It is
believed that Guru Har
Gobind, the sixth Sikh
guru, travelled through
Kashmir, stopping to
preach occasionally and
stayed there for few days.

19. Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist
white-domed stupa on a hilltop in
Chanspa, Leh district, Ladakh.
It was built in 1991 by Japanese
Buddhist Bhikshu, Gyomyo
Nakamura.
The stupa has become a tourist
attraction not only due to its
religious significance but also due
to its location which provides
panoramic views of the
surrounding landscape.

20. The Shankaracharya Temple is also
known as the Jyesteshwara temple or
Pas-Pahar by Buddhists.
Shankracharya Temple was renamed as
Takht-e-Suleiman (Throne of Solomon)
It is on top of the Shankaracharya Hill
(also called Gopadari Hill)on the
Zabarwan Mountain in Srinagar,
Kashmir.
The temple is at a height of 1,000 feet
(300 m) above the plain and overlooks
the city of Srinagar.

21. Thiksay Gompa or Thiksay
Monastery (also transliterated from
Ladakhi as Tikse, Tiksey or Thiksey)
is a gompa(monastery) affiliated with
the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
The monastery is located at an altitude
of 3,600 metres (11,800 ft) in the Indus
Valley.
It is a twelve-story complex and houses
many items of Buddhist art such as
stupas, statues, thangkas, wall
paintings and swords.

22. Diskit Monastery also known as Deskit
Gompa or Diskit Gompa is the oldest and
largest Buddhist monastery (gompa) in the
Nubra Valley of Ladakh, northern India.
A popular festival known as Dosmoche or
the "Festival of the Scapegoat" is held in the
precincts of the monastery in February
during the winter season.
Lachung Temple and Hundur Monastery

shrines and temples in Jammu and Kashmir have a lot
of history backing them. The shrines have been a
crowd and devotees puller since their establishment
resulting a great source of finance to the state and
even resulted a source of employment to our state
youth. State ministry needs to take further measures
for their safeguard. The surrounding of these shrines
must not be polluted or damages, after all these are
big assets to our state as a whole.
