Began in 1999 as project co-sponsored
by NESA and the Office of Overseas
Schools
Purpose to develop standards for
international schools
Collaborative process involving
representatives of 12 schools

• Provide foundation upon which to build
curriculum
• Increase collaboration among teachers

students, teachers, and parents

8. AERO Standards Review
• In 2009, reviews of original standards
documents undertaken to update, revise
and improve them
• Expert consultants led the review in
each subject, followed by vetting
process involving teachers from a
variety of international schools
9. Common Core Initiative
Governors and states commissioners of
education began the project in 2009
48 states, plus two territories and the
District of Columbia signed on to the
project
Experts representing many opinions
came together to develop new
standards in English and Mathematics
10. Common Core State
Standards
• New standards released in 2010
• 46 states and the District of Columbia
have agreed to adopt the Common
Core Standards as their new standards
11. Internationally Benchmarked
•Standards from individual high-performing countries and
provinces were used to inform content, structure, and language.
Writing teams looked for examples of rigor, coherence, and
progression.

• The CCRS are designed to represent a full
range of knowledge and skills that
students need to succeed in entry-level
college courses, as well as in a wide range
of majors and careers.

to determine the level of compatibility

administrators to implement the Math
and English Frameworks
