Global warming is causing an increase in average global temperatures due to increased greenhouse gas emissions. This is leading to more frequent and intense hurricanes for three key reasons: 1) Warmer ocean temperatures provide more energy to fuel developing hurricanes. 2) Higher temperatures cause increased evaporation and more water vapor in the atmosphere, allowing hurricanes to strengthen more rapidly. 3) Data shows a rise in the number of strong hurricanes (categories 3-5) from the 1850s to present day as global warming has increased.
