4. A TRIP TO BRAHMAPUTRA
Outline story:
Before the Second World war, people used to have an enjoyable
journey by the steamer.
Journey started from the Hoogly river in Calcutta and ended in the
Brahmaputra river at Dibrugarh in Assam.
The butler of the steamer took care of the passengers. He used to
buy the ingradiants on the way and cook them to serve delicious
meals to the passengers.
The passengers enjoyed the sights and sounds of different localities
on the bank of the river.
5. A TRIP TO BRAHMAPUTRA
The steamer took half a day to cross 144 km. from Calcutta to
reach the mouth of the narrow Namkhana canal near the Bay
of Bengal.
Then the steamer would gradually
go through numerous canals and
smaller waterways to reach the
broad river Padma.
On the second night, it would
reach Khulna. After that, it would
reach Barishal.
6. A TRIP TO BRAHMAPUTRA
At Gualundo, that journey on the Padma would end. The steamer
would, then, advance through the little green groves with bunches of
plump yellow bananas on the banks of the real Brahmaputra.
It would pass Chilmari,
Goalpara, Palasbari,
Pandughat, Umananda
Bhairab Temple to
reach Guwahati.
7. A TRIP TO BRAHMAPUTRA
Ultimately, the steamer would reach Dibrugarh after crossing a long
distance of the upstream journey on the Brahmaputra.
Beyond this point, the steamer had no way to go ahead through the
swift current of water.
8. A TRIP TO BRAHMAPUTRA
During this journey, the passengers would enjoy different aspects of
nature and visualize food habit, trade and commerce and lifestyle of
the people living in the river basin.
