The A Team is a group that promotes healthy lifestyles and bodybuilding in townships and under-resourced areas. They train senior citizens and athletes and have had success competing locally and abroad. The A Team hosts an annual bodybuilding event using sports facilities in Soweto to build communities, address issues like substance abuse, and recognize athletes in different categories. They currently operate out of a community center, running activities like gardening, fitness classes, and storytelling during the week.
2. We are a committed team
The A Team comprises of a group of old senior citizen fighting
obesity and training athletes and body builders who have competed
in local & prestigious shows such as the Gauteng Provincials & South
African Championships
Over the last few years our athletes have proven themselves by being
the top in their categories leading to qualifying to compete abroad
The A Team seeks to promote healthy lifestyle body building, to the
old and young in our townships and under-resourced areas where
the sport is unexplored and little known
3. Minister of Sport, Mr Fikile Mbalula, is in the process of bringing all
sporting codes on par
Minister Mbalula has highlighted the importance of sports in the
development & integration of cohesive communities
Body Building and fitness remains largely neglected, however, it has
many benefits in so far as it can contribute in addressing social
concerns in under-resourced areas such as substance abuse, by
promoting alternative & healthy living
The A Team finds an opportunity to build & integrate communities in
Soweto and other townships through the use of the Petrus Molefe
Development Park and Cosmo city by hosting an annual body
building event for male & female athletes in the various categories
4.
5. To create a sustainable health programme for the athletes to train so
as to compete in the annual body building event and fitness events
e.g. Amos Masondo Games
To identify athletes for participation in the event & compete with
athletes in their respective communities
To create a platform for recognition by awarding athletes in their
respective categories
To encourage young men & woman to partake in building healthy &
active communities
To contribute to the reduction in substance abuse by exposing
community members to alternative & positive healthy living

local people, business, youth, community organisations, government, media
and visitors from all over Gauteng and beyond on an annual basis to celebrate
the community’s richness, diversity, enterprise and heritage. The event
enables the people of Soweto and surrounding areas to come together in a
fun, relaxed environment infused with a positive spirit.

will use this opportunity to make a difference in the community.
The Soweto Festival Expo combines an entertainment programme including
body building, dance and drama, an exhibition of arts and crafts and other
local products, a tourism expo, an outdoor area for food and drink vendors
selling traditional as well as branded fare, a sports programme including
soccer and golf, a youth zone and activity pavilion and a business expo for the
corporate, SMME and government sectors.
And new talent was born again.....

produced a South African

25. By exposing communities to a fairly unknown sport such as body
building and fitness exercises there is an opportunity to attract
new audiences as well as participants as they learn about the sport
as more than just entertainment but as a feasible alternative
