Narrative: a Memorable Event. Essay
Narrative: A memorable event.
I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the
day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready when my Dad shouted '' Ya betta get ya'self
moving Kertesha, we're gonna be late!''.
I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked
fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there
was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all
the equestrian magazines had – A gilet. Mine was a pink Abercrombie & Fitch one, with ribbed
salmon trims around the waistband and collar; it was not a real equestrian gilet,...show more content...
Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became
more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let
alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust,
manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of.
There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with
enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were alphabetically permitted to choose a horse,
and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly.
She was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and
was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he
stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he
had a striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. I had an instant connection with him, and
proclaimed his name as Cashmere.
As I lead Cashmere towards the indoor riding arena, my heart raced. The inconsistent sound hoofs
trotting along the cobbled ground were intensifying. As I stroked Cashmere's muzzle and gave him a
mint polo (he's favourites), I began to mentally prepared myself to mount, and ride him.
Cashmere was

Acts of Heroism Essay
What makes the acts of heroism different from the daily life of others? To people the act of
heroism can be from their favorite sports player or an actor. But, to some they could be there
family member. Each heroic act in the society is faced with great challenges but the hero never
backs down. In addition, heroic acts have many different purposes in our society. The acts of
heroism are considered as an inspiration to others and a reference but, it takes certain attribute such as
courage and selflessness.
Acts of heroism done by heroes demonstrates leadership and to make our society a better place. For
instance, Mohandas K. Gandhi helped gain freedom for the colored without violence but giving
speeches. This demonstrates that Gandhi...show more content...
This quote also demonstrates that if you don't break the rules then the community wouldn't know
about the injustice. The people who break the rules to get equal rights didn't think about themselves,
instead everyone else that was facing the same problem and Martin Luther King was one of them. It
shows that they aren't selfish and willing to stand up to be a leader. In conclusion, heroism
contributes to our society in a positive way.
The acts of heroism are never selfish or foolish but instead are fearless and valiant. Acts of
heroism done by heroes are never afraid to die or to face whatever lies ahead. They aren't the
people that don't stand above others. For example, in October Sky Homer did many things that
most people wouldn't have done which were to build rockets. He keeps on doing it even though
most people had doubts that he would succeed. Homer was favored to be a coal miner like his
father, but he doesn't have any interest in it. Homer showed no fear to his principle and to his
dad. The act was never selfish, it benefit a great number of people because he gave hope to his
society by proving that anything is possible. Homer's idea got his friends to become a person that
they have never thought of. Furthermore, his actions weren't foolish at all because he got in to a
good college and later worked for NASA. What Homer accomplished during his life explain the
idea of heroism and his act of heroism shows what heroism shouldn't be. Moreover an example

Simple Recipes Essay
Madeleine Thien's "Simple Recipes" is a short story that depicts an immigrated family facing
problems of cultural preservation; "Hills like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway portrays a
couple facing difficulties in decision–making about their unplanned pregnancy. Despite the
difference in plots and themes respectively, both stories discuss about relationships are being put at
stake as a result of different factors emerge in the plot. In the two stories, competing values, problems
with communication and lack of understanding between two people emerge as elements that can
ruin a relationship. Therefore, the two stories reveal that selfishness is the initial and eventual cause
for broken relationships.
Communication problems are what usually...show more content...
When two people appreciate different values, it will eventually lead to conflicts. If they cannot get to
a compromise, as a consequence, their relationship will collapse. The family bond between the father
and the brother in "Simple Recipes" is destroyed because of their conflict about values. In the story,
the competing values in shown when the two characters unable to identify themselves, in terms of
cultural identification. The father, representing the family's cultural roots, is trying to preserve the
Malaysian heritage and culture in his immigrated family, in the image of his anger towards his son
forgetting the native language, while his son does not identify himself with the Malaysian roots at
all, with his rejection of eating the fish (501). These competing values, consequently, incites conflicts

Simple Subjectivism
In this essay I will talk about what simple subjectivism is and the problems of the impossibility of
moral disagreement. First I will define ethical subjectivism and the different version of subjectivism
known as simple subjectivism. Then I will explain why simple subjectivism makes a disagreement
impossible. Lastly, I will explain why the consequence of simple subjectivism creates a problem for
the moral judgement theory.
Ethical subjectivism is the theory that describes the nature of moral judgement; it is defined as our
opinions based on our feeling and emotions. However, Rachels believes that morality is concerned
because there are no facts or objective truth in morality nor is there anyone right even when there is
available evidence. (Rachels 36). It is the different feelings that people have that creates the
argument. Jerry Falwell...show more content...
(Rachels 37). In other words, our moral statements is based on how we behave regarding an issue.
Simple subjectivism is open to several objections, there are two main objections to simple
subjectivism. First is that whenever someone is making a moral agreement, no one is ever right. The
second is that simple subjectivism makes disagreement impossible to argue. If we look back at this
statement whether 'Homosexuality is immoral', there are many who would disapprove of this
statement and many would approve. Matt Foreman does not believe that homosexuality is immoral.
It may look that both Foreman and Falwell disagree but simple subjectivism says otherwise.
According to simple subjectivism when foreman says that the homosexuality is immoral, he stated
only his attitude not a fact; he is just stating that he does not disapprove homosexuality. Falwell
would agree that Foreman does not disapprove homosexuality and Foreman would agree that
Falwell does not approve

Reflective Letter Sample
I'm writing this letter to tell you about my learning outcomes and experiences in your class. Let
me start off by saying that 2017 has been the worst year of my life. Nothing went the way I
wanted it to. I experienced so many different things and had been in so many wild situations. I
had started losing sight of who I was as a young man which scared me. Until, your English 101
class. This class is one of the highlights of this whole year. I have learned so many things about
myself in this class and it changed my overall perspective of life. I am a better me in all aspects
especially mentally. Plus, I have developed my writing skills and became a better writer overall.
I have changed so much as a writer throughout this quarter in your class. For example, coming into
your class my conclusion was horrible and I knew it was because teachers told me this in the
past, but never really told me how to fix it. Until you finally told me when writing your
conclusion ask yourself "So What". This helped me so much and it shows on assignments like
the Autoethnography. Like you always say, "If you know better, you do better". The biggest
reason my writing skills have improved is because of the amount of writing we do in your class. I
have written more papers in this class in one quarter than I have written in 4 quarters in my Honors
English class last year. Crazy right? The fact of the matter is that practice makes perfect. The more I
practice something the more flaws I will catch and

Reflection Paper In English
This semester was excellent! Recently I found myself taking English 1301 for the first time. At first,
I felt overpowered, the assignments assort in topics and at times, I felt unknowing of the subjects.
Often papers ranged from primitive to intricate. Before long we started off with a simple essay, then
progressed from there. Luckily, power points were provided throughout the course. The firstpaper
we wrote was about our experience in a community event. The description of the paper was
narrative, which was a light way to start the course. Moreover, we were introduced to visual rhetoric.
Based on a visual media image we used persuasive writing to decode what is being conveyed
through everyday advertisements. For that reason, visual media analysis was very fun to write and
my personal favorite. As we went on, I stumbled across literary analysis, it was the most tedious
paper of them all. Personally, it was a challenge for me to write an analysis of a short poem/speech
based on only literature. I didn't see how I would meet the seven hundred–word criteria. So, I chose
an extensive topic, politics. Consequently, it was never–ending. Finally, our research paper was a
fresh breath of air. To elaborate, academic writing is of significant importance. The concept of
formal writing is essential for every college student. Prewriting is the first step I engage in before
writing anything down. Usually, I research and gather information. After I begin drafting, I

English Reflection Essay
When I was signing up for my classes for my senior year, I decided to take English Composition 1
for my final English credit for the sole reason that it takes only half a year to complete. I had been
warned by veterans of the course that the class would be difficult. This did not bother me too much,
as taking AP Physics my junior year taught me that I work harder in an environment with rigorous
work. During the course, I was delighted when I discovered that the class has heavily improved my
essay writing skills throughout the year. Each consecutive essay had improved my writing for the
better. At the beginning of the year, the class was assigned to write a simple essay about the story
in a photograph. For this assignment, I wrote an essay about a picture of myself and six friends
during our freshman homecoming. I clearly remember writing that sample essay the night before
it was due without much thought or care into the paper. As it turns out, the grade I received
reflected my work, as I earned around a sixty percent. Thankfully, the professor of the class
corrected everything wrong with my paper and verbally discussed with myself and the class on
what our biggest weaknesses were during our writing. It was at this point that I learned that in
order to succeed both as a student and an essay writer, I would have to focus harder and care more
for my assignments. For the next essay, our class was tasked to write a persuasive about something
that we were passionate about. I

English 1301: Course Analysis
During the first semester of English 1301, I have learned so much that before I hadn't
comprehended. This class has teached me to write what is my passion and explain my thoughts
thoroughly. The classes I took before were mostly teaching the arts of writing essays in which the
not much was learned. This class made an exception for me to challenge myself and try to
succeed in becoming a better writer. I feel as I have learned more in these 16 weeks than have in
the last two years of highschool english. Furthermore to expand on the classes I had taken before I
had never learned how to write without just actually doing work and feeling enthusiastic about it.
Most of the time we would learn about something or topic would be given. There would be...show

For example in college how all–nighters will take place, and become sort of a routine. This course
also taught me that if you procrastinate, then it will get you nowhere. So in my mind i have set a
new type of rule against the procrastination since i have done it so many times. Obviously when
we had started learning the first day i had wished that this class would be actually better than the
ones before. Because before the classes as i have stated we would not learn a lot,and our grades
would be affected by this situation. Also not to mention my favorite class for a long time was
english until last year when we were not taught as well. That is why when I had taken this course,
I was praying that I would actually finally learn something for a chance. Finally when we had
started the class i was thankful that finally I had gotten in a class that would be fun and
challenging. It might seem to many in our class that this class is hard. Obviously the class is
going to be hard, but i feel as if you put your mind to anything you can get it done. So that is why
when I took this class ,i knew there would be time where i would be tired and not want to do
anything. But for when everything was written and stated to us in class. I was sure that we will have
the will power and the proper instructions on how to write our papers and the stuff we have to do in

The Modernism Movement Essay
Modernism started as a movement around late 19th and 20th centuries. It rejected the conventional
forms of art, architecture, literature, religious faith, social organisation and everyday life as they felt
it was incompatible with the new economical, social and political conditions that was emerging at
that period of time. Many distinctive styles can be defined as modernist, but majority of them had
very similar values and theories on different aspects of society. It gave birth to a whole array of art,
cultural and political movements. Often referred to as an avant–garde movement at that time, it was
a loose assembly of ideas. They believed in creating a better world. Mainly consisting of left–leaning
political ideology followers, they had...show more content...
The book cover illustration by John Heartfield for instance is another image that springs up as
modernist illustration. The image simply is of a human like figure but the elements of the body
parts are made up of various mechanical accessories e.g. clock, levers, meters, etc. Modernist's
were convinced, technology was the way forward and the image in particular echoed that ethos.
The poster designed by Adolphe Mouron Cassandre for the "Nord Express" was one of the iconic
image during the later part of modernist era. The image has certain identical mark–making traits with
other illustrators working around same period of time. The poster itself in some sense advocates
industrialisation. The bold colours and figurative lines demonstrates the strength of industrialised
future. Equality, and the desire to create a utopian world was one of the underlying principles of the
modernists. George Grosz's images often attacked the class system that was occurring in Berlin. The
caricature drawings of the elite capitalist bankers and the disillusioned lower class people illustrated
the critical problem in the society that made the movement ever progressive. "Arrangement" – New
York (1925) was a lithograph print of a heavily industrialised cityscape by Jan Matulka. Modernist
architects were fascinated by the idea of simplicity in design, functionality and rejection of ornament,
decoration, etc. The image underlines those ethics they maintained.

Cultural Competence Essay
Assignment 5
Cultural competence has to do with one's culture. Culture affects among other factors, how
children are raised, how families communicate, what is considered normal or abnormal, ways of
coping with issues, the way we dress, when and where we seek medical treatment, and so forth. I
should know because I come from a very cultural home where it is considered bad to talk to a male
doctor about anything gynecological.
Cultural Competence is important for many reasons. First, it can help develop culturally sensitive
practices which can in turn help reduce barriers that affect treatment in health care settings. Second,
it can help build understanding, which is critical in competence, in order wards knowing whom the

We need new advances in the delivery of service to discuss cultural differences. Last but not least,
as managed care procedures extend into the public division through programs like Medicare, the
need to find an appropriate abstract framework to guide service plan and delivery becomes even
clearer.
For us to develop cultural competence we need to have a level expertise, knowledge and attributes.
When I mention Expertise I am referring to professional skills such as, being able to communicate
correct information for culturally different people and their communities, the skill to candidly
discuss racial and ethnic issues and to react to culturally based signs, the skill to understand the
meaning that traditions/culture has for each person, Interviewing skills that help to understand and
accommodate the role of language in a person's culture and the skill to use the idea of empowerment
on behalf of culturally different people and communities.
Knowledge refers to knowing a person's cultural history, values, and traditions; the impact of perhaps
racism or poverty on behavior, the role of communication in different communities, knowledge of
resources such as agencies that can aid, and how professional values may either agree with or
disagree with the needs of clients from different cultures.
Finally attributes refers to our acceptance of cultural differences, our desire or readiness to work
with individuals from different backgrounds and the

  • 4. Simple Subjectivism In this essay I will talk about what simple subjectivism is and the problems of the impossibility of moral disagreement. First I will define ethical subjectivism and the different version of subjectivism known as simple subjectivism. Then I will explain why simple subjectivism makes a disagreement impossible. Lastly, I will explain why the consequence of simple subjectivism creates a problem for the moral judgement theory. Ethical subjectivism is the theory that describes the nature of moral judgement; it is defined as our opinions based on our feeling and emotions. However, Rachels believes that morality is concerned because there are no facts or objective truth in morality nor is there anyone right even when there is available evidence. (Rachels 36). It is the different feelings that people have that creates the argument. Jerry Falwell...show more content... (Rachels 37). In other words, our moral statements is based on how we behave regarding an issue. Simple subjectivism is open to several objections, there are two main objections to simple subjectivism. First is that whenever someone is making a moral agreement, no one is ever right. The second is that simple subjectivism makes disagreement impossible to argue. If we look back at this statement whether 'Homosexuality is immoral', there are many who would disapprove of this statement and many would approve. Matt Foreman does not believe that homosexuality is immoral. It may look that both Foreman and Falwell disagree but simple subjectivism says otherwise. According to simple subjectivism when foreman says that the homosexuality is immoral, he stated only his attitude not a fact; he is just stating that he does not disapprove homosexuality. Falwell would agree that Foreman does not disapprove homosexuality and Foreman would agree that Falwell does not approve Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Reflective Letter Sample I'm writing this letter to tell you about my learning outcomes and experiences in your class. Let me start off by saying that 2017 has been the worst year of my life. Nothing went the way I wanted it to. I experienced so many different things and had been in so many wild situations. I had started losing sight of who I was as a young man which scared me. Until, your English 101 class. This class is one of the highlights of this whole year. I have learned so many things about myself in this class and it changed my overall perspective of life. I am a better me in all aspects especially mentally. Plus, I have developed my writing skills and became a better writer overall. I have changed so much as a writer throughout this quarter in your class. For example, coming into your class my conclusion was horrible and I knew it was because teachers told me this in the past, but never really told me how to fix it. Until you finally told me when writing your conclusion ask yourself "So What". This helped me so much and it shows on assignments like the Autoethnography. Like you always say, "If you know better, you do better". The biggest reason my writing skills have improved is because of the amount of writing we do in your class. I have written more papers in this class in one quarter than I have written in 4 quarters in my Honors English class last year. Crazy right? The fact of the matter is that practice makes perfect. The more I practice something the more flaws I will catch and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Reflection Paper In English This semester was excellent! Recently I found myself taking English 1301 for the first time. At first, I felt overpowered, the assignments assort in topics and at times, I felt unknowing of the subjects. Often papers ranged from primitive to intricate. Before long we started off with a simple essay, then progressed from there. Luckily, power points were provided throughout the course. The firstpaper we wrote was about our experience in a community event. The description of the paper was narrative, which was a light way to start the course. Moreover, we were introduced to visual rhetoric. Based on a visual media image we used persuasive writing to decode what is being conveyed through everyday advertisements. For that reason, visual media analysis was very fun to write and my personal favorite. As we went on, I stumbled across literary analysis, it was the most tedious paper of them all. Personally, it was a challenge for me to write an analysis of a short poem/speech based on only literature. I didn't see how I would meet the seven hundred–word criteria. So, I chose an extensive topic, politics. Consequently, it was never–ending. Finally, our research paper was a fresh breath of air. To elaborate, academic writing is of significant importance. The concept of formal writing is essential for every college student. Prewriting is the first step I engage in before writing anything down. Usually, I research and gather information. • 7. English Reflection Essay When I was signing up for my classes for my senior year, I decided to take English Composition 1 for my final English credit for the sole reason that it takes only half a year to complete. I had been warned by veterans of the course that the class would be difficult. This did not bother me too much, as taking AP Physics my junior year taught me that I work harder in an environment with rigorous work. During the course, I was delighted when I discovered that the class has heavily improved my essay writing skills throughout the year. Each consecutive essay had improved my writing for the better. At the beginning of the year, the class was assigned to write a simple essay about the story in a photograph. For this assignment, I wrote an essay about a picture of myself and six friends during our freshman homecoming. I clearly remember writing that sample essay the night before it was due without much thought or care into the paper. As it turns out, the grade I received reflected my work, as I earned around a sixty percent. Thankfully, the professor of the class corrected everything wrong with my paper and verbally discussed with myself and the class on what our biggest weaknesses were during our writing. It was at this point that I learned that in order to succeed both as a student and an essay writer, I would have to focus harder and care more for my assignments. For the next essay, our class was tasked to write a persuasive about something that we were passionate about. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. English 1301: Course Analysis During the first semester of English 1301, I have learned so much that before I hadn't comprehended. This class has teached me to write what is my passion and explain my thoughts thoroughly. The classes I took before were mostly teaching the arts of writing essays in which the not much was learned. This class made an exception for me to challenge myself and try to succeed in becoming a better writer. I feel as I have learned more in these 16 weeks than have in the last two years of highschool english. Furthermore to expand on the classes I had taken before I had never learned how to write without just actually doing work and feeling enthusiastic about it. Most of the time we would learn about something or topic would be given. There would be...show more content... For example in college how all–nighters will take place, and become sort of a routine. This course also taught me that if you procrastinate, then it will get you nowhere. So in my mind i have set a new type of rule against the procrastination since i have done it so many times. Obviously when we had started learning the first day i had wished that this class would be actually better than the ones before. Because before the classes as i have stated we would not learn a lot,and our grades would be affected by this situation. Also not to mention my favorite class for a long time was english until last year when we were not taught as well. That is why when I had taken this course, I was praying that I would actually finally learn something for a chance. Finally when we had started the class i was thankful that finally I had gotten in a class that would be fun and challenging. It might seem to many in our class that this class is hard. Obviously the class is going to be hard, but i feel as if you put your mind to anything you can get it done. So that is why when I took this class ,i knew there would be time where i would be tired and not want to do anything. But for when everything was written and stated to us in class. I was sure that we will have the will power and the proper instructions on how to write our papers and the stuff we have to do in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Modernism Movement Essay Modernism started as a movement around late 19th and 20th centuries. It rejected the conventional forms of art, architecture, literature, religious faith, social organisation and everyday life as they felt it was incompatible with the new economical, social and political conditions that was emerging at that period of time. Many distinctive styles can be defined as modernist, but majority of them had very similar values and theories on different aspects of society. It gave birth to a whole array of art, cultural and political movements. Often referred to as an avant–garde movement at that time, it was a loose assembly of ideas. They believed in creating a better world. Mainly consisting of left–leaning political ideology followers, they had...show more content... The book cover illustration by John Heartfield for instance is another image that springs up as modernist illustration. The image simply is of a human like figure but the elements of the body parts are made up of various mechanical accessories e.g. clock, levers, meters, etc. Modernist's were convinced, technology was the way forward and the image in particular echoed that ethos. The poster designed by Adolphe Mouron Cassandre for the "Nord Express" was one of the iconic image during the later part of modernist era. The image has certain identical mark–making traits with other illustrators working around same period of time. The poster itself in some sense advocates industrialisation. The bold colours and figurative lines demonstrates the strength of industrialised future. Equality, and the desire to create a utopian world was one of the underlying principles of the modernists. George Grosz's images often attacked the class system that was occurring in Berlin. The caricature drawings of the elite capitalist bankers and the disillusioned lower class people illustrated the critical problem in the society that made the movement ever progressive. "Arrangement" – New York (1925) was a lithograph print of a heavily industrialised cityscape by Jan Matulka. Modernist architects were fascinated by the idea of simplicity in design, functionality and rejection of ornament, decoration, etc. The image underlines those ethics they maintained. • 10. Cultural Competence Essay Assignment 5 Cultural competence has to do with one's culture. Culture affects among other factors, how children are raised, how families communicate, what is considered normal or abnormal, ways of coping with issues, the way we dress, when and where we seek medical treatment, and so forth. I should know because I come from a very cultural home where it is considered bad to talk to a male doctor about anything gynecological. Cultural Competence is important for many reasons. First, it can help develop culturally sensitive practices which can in turn help reduce barriers that affect treatment in health care settings. Second, it can help build understanding, which is critical in competence, in order wards knowing whom the person...show more content... We need new advances in the delivery of service to discuss cultural differences. Last but not least, as managed care procedures extend into the public division through programs like Medicare, the need to find an appropriate abstract framework to guide service plan and delivery becomes even clearer. When I mention Expertise I am referring to professional skills such as, being able to communicate correct information for culturally different people and their communities, the skill to candidly discuss racial and ethnic issues and to react to culturally based signs, the skill to understand the meaning that traditions/culture has for each person, Interviewing skills that help to understand and accommodate the role of language in a person's culture and the skill to use the idea of empowerment on behalf of culturally different people and communities. Knowledge refers to knowing a person's cultural history, values, and traditions; the impact of perhaps racism or poverty on behavior, the role of communication in different communities, knowledge of resources such as agencies that can aid, and how professional values may either agree with or disagree with the needs of clients from different cultures.
