In association with Deloitte, the Institute has produced a thought leadership paper titled 20 issues on IT as a strategic partner. The paper presents 20 significant IT issues set to impact organisations now and in the immediate future.
‘We understand that business leaders are time poor. Our paper presents 20 issues likely to be at the forefront in shaping the role and contribution of business IT over the next decade,’ said Leadership and Quality General Manager, Lee White.
The issues are divided into five core elements that contribute to the value IT brings to an organisation. These include strategic alignment, information management, IT effectiveness, agility and innovation, and operational efficiency.
The practical paper includes quick references and a list of questions so readers can consider and apply the information to their organisation and individual circumstances.
http://www.charteredaccountants.com.au
The document discusses the development of IT as a profession and the challenges faced in establishing it as such. It proposes using a model of a profession that includes elements like a code of ethics, standards of practice, body of knowledge, preparatory education, certification, and professional development. The IEEE is working to develop an Enterprise IT Body of Knowledge (ITBOK) to help address the challenges by providing a common framework and bringing together existing efforts, with input from various organizations. The goal is to better define IT job roles and career paths, establish competency standards, and gain recognition of IT professionals.
Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics examines the ultimate end or purpose of human life. It argues that happiness (eudaimonia) is attained through living a virtuous life according to reason. Virtue involves finding the golden mean between extremes of character and behavior. Aristotle defines the distinctively human function as the life of reason and contemplation. Right actions are those that promote happiness, while wrong actions oppose it. Deliberation and choice play a role in voluntary versus involuntary acts.
Virtue ethics focuses on developing virtuous character traits. Aristotle believed that happiness is achieved through living according to reason and developing virtues like courage, honesty, and justice. He argued that virtues represent a golden mean between extremes of character and that they allow people to function well and live happily in community with others. While virtue ethics emphasizes moral motivation and relationships, it faces challenges in providing guidance in complex situations where virtues may conflict or fail to address all scenarios.
Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics explores what is good for humans and how we ought to live. Aristotle defines happiness as an activity of the soul in accordance with virtue. He identifies moral virtues like courage, justice, and temperance that are acquired through practice and habit, guided by practical wisdom. Ultimately, Aristotle argues that happiness consists primarily of intellectual virtue and theoretical contemplation, which is the highest human activity as it is the most god-like.

The TESI project aims to create adaptive and affordable software to help people with verbal communication disabilities socialize and integrate into society. The software will provide personalized tools and learning models on mobile devices. An international team of researchers from several universities developed the TESI system and conducted a pilot study with students, parents, and teachers to evaluate its effectiveness in improving social skills for learners with communication disabilities. The results showed that the software improved academic achievement and provided an accessible tool to support communication skills.
An eportfolio is a collection of digital artifacts created by a learner to demonstrate experiences, achievements, and learning. Eportfolios can engage and motivate learners, promote reflection, and make progress visible. They support learning, assessment, personal development, and career goals. Several systems are available to create eportfolios, including Mahara, an open-source platform. A pilot project at Dublin Business School used Mahara with social science students over 8 weeks to explore eportfolios for learning, formative assessment, and skills development. Learner feedback was positive, noting eportfolios helped them think more about decisions and question things. The future may see an eportfolio for every student to showcase learning and web profiles.

Multidisciplinarity vs. Multivocality, the case of “Learning Analytics"Nicolas Balacheff
This document discusses the relationship between multidisciplinarity and multivocality in the context of learning analytics research. It argues that while learning analytics began as a multidisciplinary field, approaches like productive multivocality that involve performing multiple analyses from different frameworks can help drive the field towards greater integration and interdisciplinarity. The document uses an example from a prior multivocality study to illustrate how comparing analyses across frameworks can lead researchers to refine concepts, make positions more explicit, and potentially achieve some methodological integration.
This document discusses organizational learning processes and leadership styles in research and technology organizations (RTOs) through a case study of Tecnalia, an RTO formed by the merger of six Spanish research organizations. It presents three propositions: 1) adaptive leadership dominates in knowledge exploration projects, 2) enabling leadership facilitates knowledge integration and exploitation, and 3) administrative leadership governs the merger process focused on institutionalization. The case studies of projects and the merger process provide observations supporting the propositions.

The document summarizes a study that analyzed work processes from two European organizations to map how system operations relate to knowledge activities. The study found that selection, acquisition, and generation activities accounted for the majority (82%) of coded knowledge activities. While the study provided insights, its results have limitations due to the small sample size and scope. Overall, the document concludes that mapping system operations to knowledge activities is feasible and could help improve performance by recognizing patterns in tasks and activities.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

21. Business Data
Data managed by the tools are built by merging
information from content and semantic data into
classes
these sets of classes are called Business Entities
A Business Entity has the role of decoupling the
communication and the management of data at a
business level from the nature of the actual data
sources.

25. Models for Knowledge-Intensive
Enterprises
Four semantic models representing
the knowledge domains
the personal worker’s competences and profiles
(including knowledge, skill, attitudes, and preferences)
the enterprise knowledge including objectives and skills
(concerning learning and businesses activities)
the context and the didactical approaches

27. Models for Knowledge-Intensive
Enterprises
Knowledge Model
Knowledge concerning enterprise assets
strategies, processes, activities, documentation, and, in
general, all the output generated by workers
Knowledge concerning organization-specific information
lightweight ontologies meant to provide a shared
classification of the organization's resources and entities
Knowledge concerning training
Representation of the educational domain that may be
exploited by a company
