How to Build Multi-disciplinary Analytics Applications on a Shared Data PlatformCloudera, Inc.
Machine learning and analytics applications are exploding in the enterprise; driving use cases for preventative maintenance, delivering new desirable product offers to customers at the right time, and combating insider threats to your business.
But each of these high-value use cases rely on a variety of data analysis capabilities working in concert to combine data from different sources into a single coherent picture. Cloudera SDX delivers a “shared data experience” that makes applications easier to develop, less expensive to deploy and more consistently secure.
3 things to learn:
* Why multi-function applications are difficult to build and secure
* How shared catalog, governance, management, and security applied consistently everywhere can deliver a “shared data experience”
* How enterprise customers are building new, high-value applications with SDX

How Apache Spark and Apache Hadoop are being used to keep banking regulators ...DataWorks Summit
The global financial crisis showed that traditional IT systems at banks were ill equiped to monitor and manage the daily-changing risk landscape during the global financial crisis. The sheer amount of data that needed to be crunched meant that many of the banks were day(s) behind in calculating, understanding and reporting their risk positions. Post crisis, a review by banking regulator, led the regulators to introduce a new legislation BCBS 239: Principles for effective risk data aggregation and reporting, that requires banks to meet more stringent (timeliness) requirement, in their ability to aggregate and report on their quickly-changing risk positions or risk fines to the tune of $millions. To meet these new requirements, banks have been forced to re-think their traditional IT architectures, which are unable to cope with sheer volume of risk data, and are instead turning to Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark to build out next generation of risk systems. In this talk you will discover, how some of the leading banks in the world are leveraging Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark to meet BCBS 239 regulation.

One of the primary reasons companies look to the public cloud is because they believe it can reduce their total cost of IT ownership (TCO). But the truth is cloud can often be more expensive than on-prem deployments, and if you’re not careful, the services you run can lead to lock in and limit your flexibility. In this webinar, we provide guidance on total cost of ownership in the cloud. We also cover how and when to use cloud object storage, preemptible instances, and transient clusters. Lastly, we look at how increasingly popular multi-cloud strategies can help you lower costs and risk.
As Hadoop and Big Data technologies take root in the enterprise, they bring new challenges for data orchestration and interaction with traditional environments. The journey of transitioning to a modern data platform involves not only ingesting and offloading data from multiple sources, but also transforming the data, making it instantly available to the business, for on demand analytics. Manual efforts and scripting are no longer practical and projects seem to come to a grinding halt due to failures and delays.
Join this session by Cloudwick and BMC and learn through real-world examples of a proven approach that meet the required standards of ease of use, scalability, security, data governance and service level management.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
