The project installed solar panels and batteries in 8 clusters to provide power to 26 households that previously lacked reliable electricity. Interviews found the project significantly improved health, education, livelihoods and quality of life by providing lighting and reducing kerosene usage. However, challenges included limited user knowledge and difficult access to repairs. Recommendations included training users and connecting them with replacement part suppliers. In conclusion, the study showed Cygni's solution effectively electrified the remote area and positively impacted residents.

Don Bosco schools in Mumbai plan to increase their solar power capacity to reduce coal usage and become more environmentally sustainable. They currently have 160KW of solar power and will add another 100KW by the end of March, bringing their total solar capacity to 260KW. This will help lower their electricity costs and reduce their carbon footprint. Experts say that increasing solar power is a good long-term solution to environmental problems. The schools hope to achieve "zero energy" status within the next two years by relying more on solar and less on power from the grid.

"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. - 2. The Kayoola Solar Bus The Kayoola bus concept represents the next generation of public transport for cities within the region. The first of its kind on the African continent, the Kayoola Solar bus relies on lithium-ion batteries to power an electric motor that is coupled to a 2- speed pneumatic shift transmission. This technology serves to conserve the environment and public health. The telltale signatures of traditional diesel engine buses – plumes of dark smoke blowing out of the tailpipe and a grumbling engine sound — are replaced by a soft whine as soon as the electric bus accelerates.

Maka pads The MakaPads project arose out of a research that revealed that academic performance of most girls dropped at puberty level and a high rate of absenteeism from school by poor schoolgirls. This was due to failure to access affordable sanitary towels during menstruation. For those who dared to go to school used unhygienic provisions and faced humiliation from boys. For many girls in the rural areas, menstruation means no school. The innovation and products from MakaPads have come in to meet this need by providing an effective low cost protection to the girls. The pads are made out of papyrus and paper waste.

Improved water pumps Makerere University in partnersship with Perdue University in Indiana USA has developed a solar- powered Irigation pump as a cheap and reliable solution for small scale farmers that form the bulk of farmers in the world. The entire system can be assembled at a cost of shs. 6.5 million . The irrigation pump was demonstrated and launched on Thursday 5th January, 2017 by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda the Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda at his office near Parliament of Uganda. The function was attended by officials from Uganda Prisons, Operation Wealth Creation and the Chancellor Makerere University Prof. Ezra Suruma among others
- 5. Hybrid FRUIT DRYER This dryer uses both biomass (usually dry rubbish or firewood) and solar power as its sources of energy, which can be used concurrently or singularly to dry fruits faster. I was inspired to go for biomass and solar power because they are renewable energy sources that Uganda is blessed with. They are also efficient even in the rural/remote areas. I’ve been to Kayunga to see established dryers; my effort is an improvement on what is currently in use and responds to concerns by users whose main complaint is inconsistent sunshine. What is left for me is to design a temperature control system (he is working on it with a classmate). When I graduate, I hope to establish a workshop that would build dryers on demand.
