2. Planning & Storage
• When planning your warehouse you need to consider a lot
of things, including efficiency and health and safety.
• Make the most of your space, build upwards rather than
outwards.
• Make sure there is enough space for employees to move
around, take into consideration any machinery that will be
used.
• Make sure to use industry-standard containers to reduce
damage to any good being handled.
3. Space costs money
• Get the most of every square foot
of your warehouse, use the full
height of your warehouse
• Choose your handling equipment
wisely, try and choose equipment
that will be able to fit down the
narrowest aisles (without
breaching health and safety rules
of course!)
• Choose a storage system with
stock rotation and good
selectivity
4. Health & Safety
• Anyone that has worked in a warehouse
is probably fully aware that injuries are
not uncommon.
• As a manager, you must make sure these
rules are followed and eliminate hazards
where possible.
• When it comes to health and safety, you
shouldn’t cut corners. Make sure
industry standard equipment is used and
up-to-date policies are in place.
5. Possible hazards you should consider:
• Flammable Substances
• Vandalism
• Hazardous Substances
• Broken Containers
• Machinery, e.g. forklifts
• Heavy items above head height
