This study analyzed 7th grade students' difficulties with oral and written communication skills at La Betulia Highschool in Colombia. To address these issues, the study implemented an institutional radio station called "STUDENTS' VOICE" to provide opportunities for students to improve their speaking, writing, argumentation, and listening abilities. Surveys of teachers and principals showed unsatisfactory results that needed to be addressed. The radio station served as a complement to academic activities and included programming, local news writing, and script writing. The results demonstrated that the radio station had a positive influence on students' oral and written communication competence by allowing them to freely express ideas, concepts, and emotions.

The Next Generation Science Standards include learning about engineering practices like design projects. Ohio's new science standards also embrace engineering and design. Project-based learning increases long-term retention of content compared to traditional instruction, and helps improve problem-solving, collaboration, and student attitudes towards learning. As part of the Navitas 2020 Strategic Project on Retention, Learning and Teaching Services has been investigating and evaluating current practice both within our colleges and externally, developing a Retention Driver Tree to identify the activities that make a difference to the student experience. In a recent webinar, Maria Spies and Suneeti Rekhari unpacked retention strategies and explored deeper into the impact of current retention pilots at Deakin and La Trobe Colleges. Maria Spies outlined the Retention Driver Tree and the factors contributing to student experience and success. Suneeti Rekhari explained the processes used to plan, implement and evaluate the retention interventions, and the early indicators and outcomes emerging from the Colleges. Through this presentation, they discussed what these initial findings mean for the Retention Driver Tree and the next steps in addressing retention.

TRADITIONAL VERSUS BLENDED LEARNING METHOD: A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON ITS EFFECT...

ABSTRACT This article presents a descriptive comparative study on two methods of teaching, the traditional and blended learning pedagogical approach in a Business Communication course. Forty-four (44) students from the two controlled groups were enrolled in the course for the first semester of school year 2017-2018 participated in the study. The findings indicated that respondents’ performance in ENGL118 (English Composition) had an effect on their performance in BUS261(Business Communication) and there was a significant positive relationship between year level and final grade in BUS261. Therefore, it was concluded that the year level and grade in ENGL118 have correlationson student’sperformance in BUS261. The results of the assessments of the two groups were compared and indicated a significant difference in the results which was influenced by respondents’ year level and mode of conducting assessments. It is further concluded, that if the characteristics of both groups were the same, blended would have been more effective than the traditional method.This study recommends adopting the blended pedagogical approach not only in BUS261 course but also to other courses as applicable.
