3. New Commandment
• John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto
you, That you love one another; as I have
loved you, that you also love one another.
• John 13:35 By this shall all men know that
you are my disciples, if you have love one to
another.

4. Truth
• It is easy to tell someone you love them!
• Showing them is much more difficult!

5. He taught His disciples
• Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as
he was praying in a certain place, when he
ceased, one of his disciples said unto him,
Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught
his disciples.

6. Jesus taught
• John 11:24-25 Martha saith unto him, I know
that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the
last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the
resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in
me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
• John 11:26-27 And whosoever liveth and
believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou
this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe
that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which
should come into the world.

7. He Prayed for them
• Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon,
Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have
you, that he may sift you as wheat:
• Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that
thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted,
strengthen thy brethren.
• He warns them and prays for them!

8. He mourned with them
• John 11:33-34 When Jesus therefore saw her
weeping, and the Jews also weeping which
came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and
was troubled, And said, Where have ye laid
him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
• John 11:35-36 Jesus wept. Then said the
Jews, Behold how he loved him!

9. He prepared them
• John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I
been so long time with you, and yet hast
thou not known me, Philip? he that hath
seen me hath seen the Father; and how
sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
• 3 ½ years teaching them!
• He prepared them-----eternity!

10. He sacrificed!
• John 15:13 Greater love hath no man
than this, that a man lay down his life for
his friends.
• John 10:14-15 I am the good shepherd,
and know my sheep, and am known of
mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so
know I the Father: and I lay down my life
for the sheep.

11. He Sacrificed
• Romans 5:6-7 For when we were yet without
strength, in due time Christ died for the
ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man
will one die: yet peradventure for a good man
some would even dare to die.
• Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love
toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.

• He took time to teach them

before?
• Leviticus 19:18 You shall not avenge, nor bear
any grudge against the children of your people,
but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I
am the LORD.
• it was new because it had never before been
made that by which any class or body of men
had been known and distinguished. The Jew
was known by his external rites, by his
peculiarity of dress,

15. Distinguishing marks of Jews
• The Jews had feasts
• They had a dress code
• They were circumcised
• They did not shave the edges of their beards
• They could not have a shaven head

16. Christianity is evidenced by
• John 14:15 If you love me, keep my
commandments.
• John 14:21 He that has my
commandments, and keeps them, he it is
that loves me: and he that loves me shall
be loved of my Father, and I will love him,
and will manifest myself to him.

17. Christianity is evidenced by
• John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him,
If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and
my Father will love him, and we will come unto
him, and make our abode with him.
• John 14:24 He that loves me not keeps not my
sayings: and the word which you hear is not
mine, but the Father's who sent me.

18. Love one another
• 1 John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That
we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus
Christ, and love one another, as he gave us
commandment.
• 1 Thessalonians 4:9 But concerning brotherly
love you need not that I write unto you: for you
yourselves are taught of God to love one
another.

19. Love brethren
• 1 Peter 1:22 Seeing you have purified your
souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto
sincere love of the brethren, see that you love
one another with a pure heart fervently:
• 2 Thessalonians 1:3 We are bound to thank
God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting,
because your faith grows exceedingly, and the
love of every one of you all toward each other
abounds;

20. Brotherly love
• Galatians 6:2 Bear you one another's
burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
• 2 Peter 1:7 And to godliness brotherly
kindness; and to brotherly kindness love.

21. Our relationship in unique
• Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in
well doing: for in due season we shall
reap, if we faint not.
• Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore
opportunity, let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them who are of the
household of faith.

23. We help each other make heaven
• Philippians 4:2 I urge Euodias, and urge
Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in
the Lord.
• Philippians 4:3 And I entreat you also, true
yokefellow, help those women who labored
with me in the gospel, with Clement also,
and with other of my fellow laborers, whose
names are in the book of life.

24. Evangelism is easier
• Acts 17:6 And when they found them not,
they drew Jason and certain brethren unto
the rulers of the city, crying, These that
have turned the world upside down are
come here also;

25. Christ is Glorified
• John 13:34 A new commandment I give
unto you, That you love one another; as I
