Mussel and Scallop, visitors from Galicia, Spain, are given a tour of Dublin, Ireland by their new friend Molly. Molly shows them many of Dublin's landmarks like O'Connell Bridge, statues of James Joyce and Oscar Wilde, Dublin Castle, Trinity College and its Long Room containing ancient manuscripts. She explains aspects of Irish culture like pubs, music, and Gaelic language. By the end of the tour, Mussel and Scallop are tired and thirsty, so Molly leaves them to get refreshments at a cafe before returning to her Irish dance class.

1. Mussel and Scallop have just arrived in Dublin and they see a beautiful sign on a wall. What does it mean? That is not English.

2. Let´s ask that red haired girl! Excuse me, lady, is this English? Oh,no,it isn´t. It is Gaelic. In Ireland we have got two languages: English and Gaelic. Oh, the same as in Galicia! We have Spanish and Galego.

3. Could you translate it, please? Sure! It says /Keid mila fo:lcha/ which means a hundred thousand welcomes. How nice words to start our visit to Dublin!

5. Hello! My name is Molly and I am on my way to my Irish dance class, would you like to visit the city? Yes, yes! Thank you, Molly!

6. This is O´Connell Bridge. It is a very wide bridge. Thousands of people cross it every day. And the river? Is this the Shannon? No, not the Shannon. This is the river Liffey.

7. Look,Molly! There is a statue. It is a man. He has got a hat and a walking stick. Oh, yes, it is the statue of James Joice, a famous Irish Writer.

9. Look, Scallop, it has got six high columns! Yes, they are very big! And this is the General Post Office

11. This is Ha´Penny Bridge

12. Look, Mussel, it is long and narrow. Why is it so narrow, Molly? This bridge was designed for pedestrian use only. In the old times, people had to pay half a penny to cross it Molly, please, let´s cross it!

13. Ha´Penny bridge leads us into Temple Bar. Here you can find artists, musicians, lively streets and lots of pubs

14. Pubs are places where people can drink beer, eat a meal and listen to traditional celtic music. What´s a pub?

15. In a Pub you can drink our most famous beer: Guinness. You can also have a meal. You should try the Dublin Bay Prawns. They serve them with lettuce, cream sauce and pepper. Pubs are also places to enjoy music. They are playing “The wild rover”,listen.

16. What is this building? It´s Dublin Castle. They started building it in1204, but most of the building is from the 18th century.

17. And this is Trinity College, a very important university and a symbol of the city of Dublin.

18. This is the old Trinity College Library. They call it “The long room”

19. Wow! It´s very long! Yes, and it has got hundreds of books There is a special book here,look! The Book of Kells

20. The Book of Kells is more than one thousand years old. It has got very beautiful pictures and letters.

21. There is another important thing in this Long Room! The Brian Boru Harp It is the oldest harp in Ireland, they say it belonged to Brian Boru, high king of Ireland. And this is the harp which appears in the Irish coins!

22. Now, follow me again. I want to show you some beautiful doors in the streets. They are all Georgian doors. Do you like them?

23. Here you can see the statue of Oscar Wilde, another famous Irish writer. Look, Scallop, he is sitting on a big stone!

24. Follow me! I want to show you another statue! It´s a woman! Is she a writer? No, she was not a writer, she was a fish seller. She was very beautiful and she died very young. Oh, what a sad story! Yes, they composed a pub song in her honour. Listen!
