Synthesis/Support Essays
Ling 102
What is a synthesis/support essay?
It is simply an essay that discusses the information found in one or more of the sources for your
research paper. You will need to analyze the information that you have retrieved from your
sources and then combine that with your own ideas on the topic. In essence, you are
constructing your final research paper in segments or units.
What is important?
Paraphrasing and quoting are very important for these assignments as you will be relying
heavily on information you have retrieved from your sources. Be sure to give credit
where it is needed because if you don't, it is plagiarism.
Organization is integral to these essays since they will later become part of your research
paper. If you do not have clear organization here, it will only get worse when you start
compiling. Make sure the reader is able to tell when you are discussing a source and
when you are discussing your own ideas. Rely on your outline to help you organize your
paper.
Organization
Introduction:
◦ thesis/topic sentence
◦ Introduce the sources you will be discussing. The reader will need to have some
background information on these before they are able to follow along with the
argument.
Body:
◦ Be sure to have clear topic sentences. The reader needs to have an idea of where the
discussion is going.
◦ Most importantly, as this is a discussion, do not separate the sources into separate
paragraphs. This is a synthesis paper so the sources should be interacting. All
paragraphs should include information from your sources.
◦ Be sure to note similarities or differences in the sources.
◦ Maintain correct citation.
◦ Write to explain, not to repeat.
Conclusion:
◦ The conclusion is a complement to the introduction so make sure you reference the
thesis.
◦ Remind readers what they should have learned from the paper or what ideas they
should be thinking about.
◦ The reader needs to be able to know that the paper is ending.
Formatting:
one inch margins
size 12 font, Times New Roman
double-spaced
correct APA in-text citations
correct APA references page
Use your time wisely to make sure that you will be able to complete the assignments. If you fall
behind, it will be very difficult to catch up. Also, make sure you submit all of the assignments or
you will receive a zero for that part of the assignment. Notice there is only one draft for each of
the synthesis papers.

1st synthesis/support essay: Wednesday March 30th
2nd synthesis/support essay: Friday April 8th

Once you have added extra evidence of support, you must utilize your higher order thinking and writing skills. It is not enough to provide an annotated bibliography of what multiple studies have found. In addition, you have to be careful that you are not just summarizing a study that you have read. You must identify the themes that run through multiple studies as a main idea for your writing and then use multiple references to support those themes … or even conflict the themes. One writing strategy to help you focus on the synthesis is to avoid writing sentences that start with “One study demonstrates…” or “Jones and Smith determined …” If you keep the subjects of your sentences as the content that you are discussing, you will be able to show multiple points of evidence by including two or more citations for the theme.
Impactful Research
It is critical that a scholar contributes to the body of knowledge within his/her field that will be impactful to society as a whole. This is evidenced within the dissertation by the Significance section in Chapter 1. In this week, we want you to add to your existing draft of the dissertation by summarizing why your study is significant to your research field or the applied practice. Remember to use citations that demonstrate why this is significant by demonstrating the impact of the possible results.

Writing Exercise Interview SummarySynthesis For this assig.docxericbrooks84875
Writing Exercise: Interview Summary/Synthesis
For this assignment, you will submit only the FINAL copy as there is no DRAFT option. This assignment is
designed to help inform a topic that interests you, and the information you gather here will be used in
your Proposal Letter assignment.
For this assignment, you should be interviewing a person who has expertise about a topic
you are interested in. Please note that you should be conducting the actual interview; you
should not be summarizing an interview conducted by someone else.
Part #1: Choose a Research Topic and an Interviewee
You do not need to submit this portion in writing, but you do need to accomplish this in
preparation for your research assignment.
In preparation for your research proposal letter in the next topic, you will need to choose a
topic for your proposal. This research proposal letter will be directed to an audience who can
create change (Congressperson, business administrator, or other similar audience.) In the
proposal, you need to suggest a change or a solution to a current problem. Examples of
strong proposal topics would be things like funding ideas for an animal shelter, starting a
recycling program in a community, suggesting a better plan for public transport, or another
idea that interests you. You will be proposing solutions for these issues. Choose a topic that
you are passionate about and for which you will be able to develop at least one solution.
While this information should be enough for you to choose a topic, please consult the
assignment sheet within Topic 7 if you have more questions about this assignment.
Once you choose a topic, it’s time to choose a credible expert to interview on that subject. In
other words, you should avoid choosing an interviewee who is a close friend or family
member unless that person truly is an expert in the field. This credible expert should have
10+ years of experience in his or her discipline. Choose an interviewee who not only could
offer some specific details about the problem but one who may also be able to offer
suggestions of a plausible solution. Use the information contained in the lesson presentation
to secure and conduct a successful interview.
Part #2: Summarize and Synthesize Your Interview
When you summarize and synthesize, you take the smaller pieces (the sections of the
interview) and develop them into one cohesive piece. Doing this exercise will help you
prepare for the research proposal letter, where you will need to incorporate at least a few
ideas from the interview.
To successfully summarize and synthesize, you might find it helpful to follow this sequence
for your essay:
Provide Background Information:
In your introductory paragraph, introduce your audience to your interviewee. What is his/her
name? What is his/her experience? If relevant, where is the interviewee employed?
Summarize the Interview:
While you want to avoid the all-too-predictable ques.

If you follow a few simple steps, you will find that the essay almost writes itself. You will be responsible only for supplying ideas, which are the important part of the essay anyway. 8 tips for perfect assignment writing conclusion
1. 8 Tips for Perfect
Assignment Writing
Conclusion
2. All assignment writers, irrespective of where they work and what
they work or what is the subject area of their assignment, face the
difficulty to write impressive and eye-catching assignments. After
completing the main task that is the body of the assignment, they
don’t pay much heed to the conclusion. Conclusions are the last
opportunity a writer gets to create a lasting impression on the mind
of the reader. Hence, doing hurry in completing the conclusion with
just a general outlook can’t be afforded at all.
4. Size:
There are assignments of varying forms and lengths, but there is a general rule for writing
conclusions of all the assignments. The conclusion part should be up to 10% of the write-up.
If the assignment consists of 800 words, its conclusion should not be longer than 80 words.
If it has 5000 words, conclude it in 500 words. This will help in providing the information that
you put previously to get concluded in a crisp and lucid manner.
5. Avoid Copying Previously Stated Ideas:
In conclusion, we provide a summary about the matter of content discussed in the body.
But this summary should not give the ideas previously stated. There should be a way
forward and viewpoint expression on the topic and not merely copy-paste of previously
mentioned arguments.
6. Emphasis on Achievement:
The achievement done during the process of writing the assignment on that front should be
emphasized in the conclusion. For example, if you researched the ways to do a survey, the
new types you found by yourself should be stated in the conclusion.
7. Define Prospects:
You should discuss the valuable key insights you got while preparing the assignment. The
learning for further conduct concerning the assignment should be given due importance in
the conclusion.
8. Address the Key Concerns:
All the assignments include some or the other main point or area of concern. This can be
called the main thesis of any assignment. Hence, this message should be stated in every
section of the assignment, in varied ways.
9. Ask WH Questions:
There shall be provided food for thought for the reader. To make the assignment look more
appealing, WH Questions can be asked in the conclusion. This helps in giving a wide-angle
of completion to the Best Accounting Assignment Help.
10. Provide Closure:
The conclusion in itself means to provide closure, but the ways should be final. Explain all
dimensions, provide advice, and include ambiguous statements so that the reader is open to
conclude as per his/her level of knowledge.
11. Be Honest:
If you have come across any biased opinion while researching for the top-rated assignment
help or during application of the procedures, you must address it in the conclusion. There
shall be an honest expression by you in the concluding part so that the evaluator can access
you based on your level of understanding of that subject area.
