1) NextGen was formed through a series of acquisitions and mergers over 4 decades. It began as Quality Systems Inc. (QSI), founded in 1973 developing dental software.
2) QSI later acquired Clinitec in 1996 to enter the EMR market, and MicroMed Healthcare Information Systems in 1997 for its practice management software, combining them as NextGen.
3) The document previews that NextGen would become a major hospital information systems vendor through acquiring three additional companies - Sphere founded by Florian Weiland in 1984, Opus founded by Tim Rhoads and Fred Beck in 1987, and IntraNexus founded by Rick Opry in 1992.
