This document outlines challenges faced by school districts and education systems due to bureaucracy. It notes that bureaucratic systems and policies over decades have led to fewer classroom resources, lack of teacher support, and low morale. The document then lists 75 specific examples of how bureaucracy stands in the way of students and teachers, such as resources not reaching classrooms, teachers lacking necessary support and training, low academic expectations for students, and meaningless teacher evaluations.

The number of homeless students in our nation's public schools has risen significantly since 2006, reaching over 1.3 million in 2013-14. What more can be done to help homeless students stay on track to graduation and on to a more stable future?
Civic Enterprises, the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth, the Raikes Foundation, and America’s Promise Alliance hosted a webinar to share research about the current state of homeless students in America’s public schools. In addition, the webinar addressed new ESSA guidelines that will require districts and states – for the first time – to report high school graduation rates for homeless students.
Speakers included:
*Tanya Tucker, Vice President of Alliance Engagement, America’s Promise Alliance
*Erin Ingram, Policy Advisors, Civic Enterprises
*Barbara Duffield, Director of Policy and Programs, National Association for the Education of Homeless Youth and Children
*Patricia A. Popp, Ph. D., State Coordinator with Project HOPE-VA and Clinical Associate Professor, School of Education, The College of William and Mary
*Hannah Johnson, a student who has experienced homelessness and is now a sophomore studying elementary education at Virginia Commonwealth University
The webinar stemmed from the report – Hidden in Plain Sight - written by Civic Enterprises with Hart Research Associates and recently released by the GradNation campaign. The report looks into how educators, policymakers and community organizations can help more students cope with homelessness, graduate from high school and get on a path to adult success.

Helicopters or Helpers: Using social media for parent engagement and fundrais...Susan T. Evans
Parents of college students continue to hover as much as they did when their children were high school students. They want to be involved, they need to be involved, they WILL be involved. We also know that parent giving to higher education is on the rise and, interestingly, parents often feel more connected to the institutions their children attend than they do to their own alma maters. Social channels offer a powerful engine for driving communication and engagement with parents, especially when integrated with your website content. We'll talk about what works and how to get more bang—and maybe more bucks—from parents on social. Whether or not you have a formal parent program at your institution, you'll benefit from this discussion about this important stakeholder group. This presentation was part of the program for the 2013 CASE Social Media and Community Conference.
New eBook, Seven Elements of the PTA Comunitario Approach
Meaningful family and community engagement is a critical element for strengthening schools. IDRA’s PTA Comunitario model is an innovation for parent organizations and for school-family-community collaborations. Yet it is probably very close to the intentions and actions of the founders of PTA over a hundred years ago. The roots are in colonias (unincorporated communities) in south Texas. This eBook outlines the seven elements of the PTA Comunitario approach that make it so unique and powerful.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The Indian economy is classified into different sectors to simplify the analysis and understanding of economic activities. For Class 10, it's essential to grasp the sectors of the Indian economy, understand their characteristics, and recognize their importance. 2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Bureaucracy Stands in the Way
Tweet 99
We are all familiar with a public school. You might have attended one, or your children might go to one, or you might be familiar with the one
down the street from you. But most of us are not familiar with what happens in school district central offices—where most decisions are made
that determine whether students and teachers are set up to succeed.
Over the last decade, through our foundation’s efforts to strengthen public schools, we have discovered numerous bureaucratic challenges
facing urban school district central offices and state education systems that may help to explain why many wellintentioned efforts to improve
public schools have not worked.
Bureaucratic systems, policies and practices that have been built up over decades in innercity school districts have often led to fewer
resources that actually reach the classroom, prevented teachers from receiving the support they need to meet individual student needs, and
disheartened many people in and around these systems, giving them little faith that conditions will improve.
Teachers feel disempowered. Students feel apathetic. Parents feel frustrated. Taxpayers are in the dark.
No one is to blame, but bureaucratic challenges must be addressed if we are to improve America’s public schools.
While some urban school systems have overcome a number of these challenges, the following “75 Examples of How Bureaucracy Stands in
the Way of America’s Students and Teachers” represents common challenges in large urban school districts we have visited, researched and
worked with over the last decade. These challenges help explain why:
Resources often don’t reach the classroom
Teachers often don’t receive the support they need, and many talented Americans don’t enter the profession at all
Policies and procedures – which may be designed to comply with laws and regulations – often don’t allow the school system to
pursue its core mission: advancing student achievement
