1) Medical students at Deakin University's IMMERSe Clinical School are being immersed in a virtual clinical setting through simulation training.
2) The simulation environment provides a safe space for students to learn and practice technical and non-technical skills by participating in scenarios of common clinical situations.
3) The simulation program is designed around the third-year curriculum and includes scenarios covering general medicine, surgery, musculoskeletal medicine, women's health, children's health and mental health.

El programa esta sujeto a posibles cambios asta la fecha de su celebración.
Resident Performance from the Patient's View: Richard Wardrop, MD, PhD, FAAPPicker Institute, Inc.
Principal investigator: Richard M. Wardrop III, MD, PhD, FAAP, FACP, WakeMed Faculty Physicians, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech Cailion School of Medicine and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine
The Resident Performance project intended to adapt an existing attendant-based evaluation into a patient-centered prototype tool that is concise, valid and reliable, and that enables patients to accurately assess resident performance on 4/6 ACGME competencies. Performance with regard to ACGME core competencies of residents who receive feedback and coaching using the patient-centered tool was compared to that of those who received attending-only feedback.
ImERSE: Improving experience through regular shadowing eventsNuffield Trust
In a breakout session at the Nuffield Trust Health Policy Summit, Carol Platt and Jo Minford present on their experience at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust
This study was conducted to review the effect that simulation training programs
for emergency situations involving newborn babies have on nursing students’ clinical
performance. Opportunities for nursing students to clinically practice what they
learned are on the decrease. Even if they take part in practice, they are usually
limited to simple tasks or observation. Given this reality, there is an urgent need to
develop new measures to improve their clinical practice ability. The low fertility rate
that is worsening over time and the difficulty in operating an intensive care unit for
newborn babies has led to a decrease in such departments, leading to difficulties
experienced by a number of universities in allocating clinical training venues. After
conducting a survey on the needs regarding training themes in the nursing of newborn
babies, simulation training programs would have to be developed based on themes
where the needs are the highest.
Presenters: David Wald, DO (david.wald@tuhs.temple.edu) and Nicholas Kman, MD (Nicholas.kman@osumc.edu)
In the traditional fourth year of medical school, students choose electives and sub-internships based on perceived knowledge gaps, specialty choice, personal interest or ease of schedule. Some students approach the fourth year with the “pre-residency syndrome”, where they select courses relating to their future field. In this typical medical school curriculum, there is very little opportunity to pursue fully integrated, in-depth learning. This session will explore opportunities for advanced learning in Emergency Medicine after the EM Clerkship.
How evidence affects clinical practice in egyptWafaa Benjamin
Evidence based medicine is the gold standard for clinical care.
It implies the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values.
There is still a wide gap between availability of evidence and its incorporation into routine practice in our country.
Barriers to implementation could be personal, social, institutional, financial and legal barriers.
True practice of evidence based care can only occur where evidence based decisions coincide with patients’ beliefs and clinicians’ preferences.
Continuing medical education programs should be set with integrating evidence based medicine teaching and learning within clinical training.
The importance of presence of local national guidelines which need to take into account variation in expertise, resources and patient preferences across our geographical and cultural contexts .
Customisation of a guideline to meet the local needs of a target patient population is critical to successful implementation.
